AIBU to ignore the notification?

This morning I woke to find a notification on the NHS app telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid and need to isolate for 8 days. The only place that can have come from is a farm cafe on Thursday, out for lunch with DH, who does not have the app so has not been told to isolate so isn't going to. He's manager of a large pharmacy and they're on skeleton staff already and have been encouraged to delete app by big bosses. I'm a childminder so will be letting down parents if I close. I've had a pcr test this morning and I'm double vaccinated. The app says to isolate even if its negative as I could still develop covid. But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?! But I am usually a stickler for the rules and worry about getting "caught." What do I do?

You have to isolate.

uhohbrusselsprouts · 04/07/2021 17:40

Ignore it. Being contacted through the app isn't enforceable.

ChipsAndKetchup · 04/07/2021 17:41

Ignore and crack on. Ridiculous that this is still the rules with most people vaccinated.

SummerHouse · 04/07/2021 17:42

Ignore it. Don't tell anyone. Don't start a Mumsnet thread. Grin

Ilikewinter · 04/07/2021 17:43

Honestly I would ignore it, can you do lateral flow tests for the next few days?

Drovememad · 04/07/2021 17:43

Nah ignore it, at the end of the day the health secretary doesn't follow the rules, so why the hell should anyone else?

I've deleted my app and won't be following and isolation requests from now on.

Boood · 04/07/2021 17:43

Delete the app.

WildWestWanda · 04/07/2021 17:43

I’d ignore too.

Drovememad · 04/07/2021 17:44

@actorbynight why isolate? The MPs in this country aren't, so why should OP?

nanbread · 04/07/2021 17:45

If you do develop Covid after childminding and all those children have to isolate for 10 days you'll not be popular. Your DH is in a slightly different situation as they risk assess for essential services in health care I believe. Not sure whether his job would fall under that.

The right thing to do is to isolate. The fine is £1000 and Delta is extremely catching. You can still catch it and get ill with both vaccines, just not THAT ill.

In a couple of weeks the rules will hopefully change.

MonicaGellerBing · 04/07/2021 17:45

Ignore and delete the app.

HighHighHopes · 04/07/2021 17:46

What about via text?
nanbread · 04/07/2021 17:47

Also your DH will have had to provide his details in writing surely not, so he may still get a call soon?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/07/2021 17:47

Ignore it.

Paddingtonitspaddingtonbear · 04/07/2021 17:47

Its only if you get contracted through track or trace and ignore, that'll you be in trouble. Carry on as normal

Jobs critical to health infrastructure are risk assessed to my knowledge.

Who hasn't isolated out of interest?

What's the difference? Between track and trace and the app? I thought they were the same thing?
GiantWingedWaspMoth · 04/07/2021 17:48

But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?!

Because
a) it drastically reduces the chance of you catching it
b) it drastically reduces the likelihood of you getting seriously ill, hospitalised or dying if you do catch it
c) it is likely to reduce the chance of you passing it on of you do catch it, as people with both vaccines have been shown to shed a lower viral load

Mrstamborineman · 04/07/2021 17:50

I’m shocked almost everyone us told you to ignore and delete. Jesus Mary and Joseph instead of asking mn ask the parents of the children you might infect with covid. !

Onthegrid · 04/07/2021 17:50

I have followed the rules but once we were able to start going out again in May I turned off the tracking part of the app as the pings seem so random. I also know of people who have been out and about to the park and shops and have had odd isolate messages, they may have deleted the app.

If contacted by track and trace or a known very recent contact with a positive pcr I would isolate even though I am double jabbed but no other reason.

How would they know if you didn’t isolate?
moralminority · 04/07/2021 17:50

Of course you should isolate. The kids in your care won't have had the jab and you could be putting them at risk.

NothingIsWrong · 04/07/2021 17:51

I believe the app is advisory only. No one knows you've been pinged except you. It is not enforceable and is anonymous.

Up to you. I've never had the app.

Juice9000 · 04/07/2021 17:52

If you are going to do this I think you need to make the parents aware and make it their decision.
