AIBU to ignore the notification?

This morning I woke to find a notification on the NHS app telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid and need to isolate for 8 days. The only place that can have come from is a farm cafe on Thursday, out for lunch with DH, who does not have the app so has not been told to isolate so isn't going to. He's manager of a large pharmacy and they're on skeleton staff already and have been encouraged to delete app by big bosses. I'm a childminder so will be letting down parents if I close. I've had a pcr test this morning and I'm double vaccinated. The app says to isolate even if its negative as I could still develop covid. But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?! But I am usually a stickler for the rules and worry about getting "caught." What do I do?

If you were my children’s childminder, I’d rather you deleted the app and stayed open.

Doifollowrule · 04/07/2021 19:21

18:47MrsWombat no, because it was from Thursday which is my day off x

I'd ignore it. I've deleted my app. We need to just get on with it now.

JammyGem · 04/07/2021 19:23

I cant get over the number of people who don't realise that being vaccinated doesn't stop them catching or passing it on.

You should isolate OP.

chaosrabbitland · 04/07/2021 19:24

ignore it and then delete , its only advicsory and only enforceable of they actually contact you by phone , i know this because on of our ladies at work had covid ,we all had the app , manager was panicking we would all have to go home to isolate leaving no staff in the shop , phoned up the covid helpline to get told just that , its guidence only , you dont have to obey , which does make me wonder just what the point of it is in the first place or why anyone had it on their phone when its about as much use as a toothless tiger . we all delted it that day

HideousKinky · 04/07/2021 19:25

igelkott2021 and warmfluffytowels thank you I did not know that

teraculum29 · 04/07/2021 19:26

i would ignore the app
but I would do lateral flow test daily for the next 8days
They are easy to pick up from chemist

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 19:27

I said on @Rainallnight's thread I would be very interested to know how many pinged people actually go on to test positive.
Huge amounts of people are currently isolating due to this app, many of them don't get paid either. It's madness and pointless.

chaosrabbitland · 04/07/2021 19:28

@randomkey123

MN isn't the place to ask - Covid hysteria is still alive and well on here.

I've never downloaded the app, OP, for this very reason.

Track and trace is a whole different ball game, however.

your definately right on your first sentance there ,its positive handwringing at times
Literarydevice · 04/07/2021 19:28

If I’d taken notice of the sodding thing I’d have been isolating for 20 days in the last 6 weeks. The only thing I’d done when I got the first alert was go to the co-op. I’m double jabbed and if I can’t even nip into a shop without needing to isolate for 10 days then I don’t see the point. The second alert came after a trip to a local town where we had a cup of tea outside a cafe. We were outdoors the entire time just walking by the river. It’s ridiculous that you’d end up stuck at home for 10 days after that

MyrrAgain · 04/07/2021 19:29

Right so you look after children and you're not going to isolate?? how frickin inconsiderate and irresponsible. If you were my childminder i'd be livid. Well guess what, our small children all get sent home from school for 10 days when some little darling in A DIFFERENT CLASS gets a positive test result because the whole year group is a 'bubble" and us parents all have to suck it up and re-arrange their work and lives for the next 10 days. Suck it up and do it like a responsible member of society.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 19:30

I had to download the app. It's shit. I refuse to have location and Bluetooth on all the time or that often.
I know people who got notifications 8, 9 days after apparent contact. It's not fit for purpose

SchrodingersImmigrant · 04/07/2021 19:31

Exactly!
Cowbells · 04/07/2021 19:36

I'd ignore it. If your LFTs are negative and you are double vaccinated, the likelihood of you being contagious just because someone with Covid ate in the same cafe as you are small.

2021DNA · 04/07/2021 19:36

Why have you got the app if your not going to bother using the data it provides you with?

OnlyMsLonely · 04/07/2021 19:36

Delete the app and ignore and take LTF daily for the next 10 days.

Rowgtfc72 · 04/07/2021 19:39

I work in a factory and we're advised to turn the app off at work as it would go mad with 400 of us in the same space. We all test twice a week anyway.
I've never had the app and isolated twice, once when dd caught covid, then when I caught it off her.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 04/07/2021 19:39

Ignore and delete the bloody app! Or use a burner phone to check into these places.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 19:40

@2021DNA

Why have you got the app if your not going to bother using the data it provides you with?
This was discussed on @Rainallnight's thread. My belief is that people thought they had to have it to scan QR codes to get into venues. Probably not realising it was continually scanning for other phones. Leading to people getting pinged in terraced houses when the neighbours tested positive etc. Or phones close together in lockers. Too many variables IMO.
bez91 · 04/07/2021 19:42

The app is ridiculous OP, I got one last week. I knew we would as we'd been on holiday and ate out every meal. DH also has the app, we never spent 15 minutes in a location without each other yet I got pinged and he didn't. The app is a load of shit.

ZenNudist · 04/07/2021 19:42

Ignore it. The app is a joke. Really sporadic about who gets contacted. If you were my childminder I'd really rather you worked.

Delete it.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 04/07/2021 19:46

THIS is precisely why I don't have the app.....

I've had my jabs and so have all sensible older and vulnerable people. So time to get on with life now.

I'm not saying ignore it, I'm just suggesting you might want to delete the app so that this type of thing doesn't happen again.

I'm not sure you actually have to isolate just because of an app notification though?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/07/2021 19:47

Id do a lateral flow test and if it was negative id just carry on my normal life. Id also delete the app.

Wondergirl100 · 04/07/2021 19:48

You are not 'putting children in your care at risk' because children aren't at risk from covid. As you can read in a great piece by Russell Viner, senior children's doctor in the guardian today.

Jaxhog · 04/07/2021 19:49

Considering what you do, you need to isolate. Having the jab doesn't stop you from being a carrier.
