AIBU to ignore the notification?

This morning I woke to find a notification on the NHS app telling me I'd been in contact with someone with Covid and need to isolate for 8 days. The only place that can have come from is a farm cafe on Thursday, out for lunch with DH, who does not have the app so has not been told to isolate so isn't going to. He's manager of a large pharmacy and they're on skeleton staff already and have been encouraged to delete app by big bosses. I'm a childminder so will be letting down parents if I close. I've had a pcr test this morning and I'm double vaccinated. The app says to isolate even if its negative as I could still develop covid. But seriously, what's the point of having had 2 vaccines if I'm still going to have to isolate?! But I am usually a stickler for the rules and worry about getting "caught." What do I do?

I think there's now a trial scheme whereby if you're a close contact of a positive case you can test each day and still go to work (a teacher friend is doing this atm). Maybe look into that?

ineedaholidaynow · 04/07/2021 19:52

I do find it odd that people watch someone being a dickhead and decide that they will be a dickhead too. Why would you want to be the same as them?

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 04/07/2021 19:57

Ignore it, it’s only if track and trace phone you.

My DM got pinged from sitting outside in a pub garden.

I don’t have the app.

Saoirse82 · 04/07/2021 19:57

Shocked at those telling you to ignore it, if my child was in your care and I knew you'd ignored the notification there would be hell to pay! I understand its a pain in the arse but you're working with children and if you're concerned about letting down the parents I'm sure they'd appreciate it a lot more if you weren't potentially giving them covid.

Justarandompersonontheinternet · 04/07/2021 19:58

I’m ill in bed with covid and most probably from someone who was supposed to isolate and didn’t, which seems to be all the rage now. You obviously think you’re immune. Suit yourself and to hell with everyone else.

What about Childminders who don't have the App? Nobody would ever know they were endangering the children.

But there's no legal requirement to isolate due to the app. So why would there be "hell to pay"? What if your childminder didn't have the app in the first place?
Nettleskeins · 04/07/2021 20:03

It is only mandatory when track and trace contact you and tell you to self isolate.

ADayAlwaysHasToEnd · 04/07/2021 20:09

I'm pretty sure if you go into settings and then other data it tells you the day of contact

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 04/07/2021 20:10

@Mrstamborineman

I’m shocked almost everyone us told you to ignore and delete. Jesus Mary and Joseph instead of asking mn ask the parents of the children you might infect with covid. !
I’d be furious if someone I had chosen as a professional to look after my children did this.
Saoirse82 · 04/07/2021 20:11

Yes but there's a difference knowing you'd been notified as a close contact and not having the app at all. So yes, if you'd knowingly been minding my child after you'd been notified there would be hell to pay, I don't care if there's a legal requirement, there's a moral requirement to at least let the parents know. And I've family members who are CEV and I've known people who have died from it and my uncle is suffering from long covid after spending weeks in hospital. So yes, it would be a massive problem!

LadyPenelope68 · 04/07/2021 20:11

@Wondergirl100
You are not 'putting children in your care at risk' because children aren't at risk from covid.
Utter bollocks, she is putting the children in her care at risk. I’m a Primary Teacher and we were closed by Public Health last Thursday for a week due to the significant number of children who are currently positive and ill. There are several schools in the area who’ve also been closed this week for the same reason.

ineedaholidaynow · 04/07/2021 20:16

@Wondergirl100 do you want to tell that to our neighbour's daughter who has long COVID and after a year off school has just started managing an hour a day at. school

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 20:17

I doubt a childminder would actually announce they had been pinged and were ignoring it TBF. So not sure how there would be 'hell to pay', nobody would ever know.
LST · 04/07/2021 20:18

Just delete the app. I did.

user1487194234 · 04/07/2021 20:18

Notifications by the App don't mean mandatory isolation

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 20:19

@LST

Just delete the app. I did.
I would think a huge percentage of people that did have the App deleted it after their first ping.
00100001 · 04/07/2021 20:20

@LadyPenelope68

Of course you should isolate. Do you not realise you can still get it even though you’ve had both vaccines?? I’ve a colleague who’s had both vaccines, currently really ill with Covid.
It's ok, OP is a footballer MP. So is exempt.
00100001 · 04/07/2021 20:21
@Wondergirl100 do you want to tell that to our neighbour's daughter who has long COVID and after a year off school has just started managing an hour a day at. school
Tell it to fucking arseholes in charge telling us what we "must do" and doing whatever they please.

LeSquigh · 04/07/2021 20:22

I would ignore it. But then I also wouldn’t have the app if I didn’t want to follow its advice so I don’t really understand why you have it. You can have the app to register at places but turn the Bluetooth off within it so you don’t get these alerts.

glitterelf · 04/07/2021 20:23

You should isolate and you should've contacted the parents this morning instead here you are on a Sunday night at nearly half 8 still umming and ahhing which then gives parents shorter notice to find alternative arrangements.

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 04/07/2021 20:23

@AColdDuncanGoodhew

I’ve never had the app. I’ve worked with positive patients, within 2m for longer than 15 minutes in a standard face mask and don't have to isolate so i’m not isolating because i’ve walked by someone in Asda or sat across a restaurant from someone.
Exactly! We all have to turn it off at work else we would ping every 5 minutes.
Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2021 20:23

What's a 'footballer MP'? OP is a childminder.

Babyroobs · 04/07/2021 20:23

@RedHelenB

I think as a childminder especially, you need to abide by the rules and isolate.
This.
hellsbells99 · 04/07/2021 20:26

My young adult DD has been text by her manager today to say work colleague has tested positive …..but as they practise social distancing and wear masks, she doesn’t have to isolate! They were on a course together last week, and obviously were not wearing masks when eating or drinking. She has done a LFT test tonight which is clear & booked in for a pcr test first thing tomorrow but otherwise is expected straight into work. On the bright side, she is double vaccinated due to health reasons.
