Did anyone else's school used to play this song at their school disco? I was 9 when this came out and remember dancing it to with everyone else, complete with hip thrusting actions Confused Hmm

I randomly remembered this and mentioned it to a friend yesterday (same age, different school) who was shocked and questioned what kind of effed-up school I went to. Did I!? Or was this an often played song at yours too!?

My childhood next door neighbour, who was a teen at the time made me an 80s mixtape - cue 5 year old dancing around singing “like a bird tin”

My grandad was NOT impressed

MrsToothyBitch · 03/07/2021 08:10

Yep. 90s primary schooler - we didn't have many school discos so don't remember that but depending on the parents it got played at disco birthday parties. And I remember it being on totp or one of the charts video countdown shows, pretty sure it was on the radio a lot. It still gets (if nightclubs are ever reopened) played for retro/cheese/90s nights and I think I've occasionally heard it on the radio.

It was a mainstream song with a catchy chorus; we all knew at least the "I wanna have sex on the beach" line from the radio or other kids singing it in the playground. I remember Mambo No 5 and The Bad Touch being big sing along hits, too. I was in about year 4 or 5 when the latter was new in the chart I think, we were all very vocal about being "more than just mammals" and wanting to "do it like they do on the discovery channel". And we knew what it meant!

Newchances · 03/07/2021 08:12

Yes and that I'm horny song

MrsToothyBitch · 03/07/2021 08:16

@Mariposa123 ahhh Horny by Mousse T x Wet n Juicy. One of my best friends got in serious trouble with her mum over that song. She picked up the word horny as having horns- like a little devil or a goat or something. So she skipped about, fingers up by her temples, approximating devil horns and signing along- mum found her and stopped her, furious. Had no idea why she got in trouble til a few years later.

It's our anthem now. We requested it as a shout out song for her 30th birthday night out Grin

HeartZone · 03/07/2021 08:19

Hey! Thanks for this! It’s given me a real lift this morning I’m now dancing!

Terrazzo · 03/07/2021 08:23

Yesss I remember being at my friend's birthday party, we must have been about 8, and being SHOCKED that everyone was dancing around to this completely cringe-free! Grin

Terrazzo · 03/07/2021 08:25

Hahahahaha I remember telling my friend that 'it's horny, not honey!!! Horny means 'ready for sex'!' and her mum was in the car and mad that I had said that Grin Looking back I think my parents must have been quite open with me compared to other parents!!

Coulddowithanap · 03/07/2021 08:26

Some of these songs definitely had radio edit versions for the UK where lyics were altered slightly. Still not sure if I'd want my kids listening to them though.. But I did love the songs and brings back great memories of dancing around with my friends (probably at school disco too lol).

Lolly86 · 03/07/2021 08:29

Yep school.disco song standard along with lots of other songs that are not very appropriate...e.g. Thong song etc

Gingefringe · 03/07/2021 08:31

A friend's 6 year old daugher used to go around singing 'I'm horny, horny, horny' which was quite catchy line from a popular song around that time. It was rather strange .....

Pedalpushers · 03/07/2021 08:36

Yep, followed by Mousse T and then Vengaboys 'boom boom boom boom I want you in my room'.

riotlady · 03/07/2021 08:37

Yep! And the horny horny horny one.

Does anyone remember the one that was like

At half past one we were having lots of fun
Singing ooh my baby, diddy dum, diddy doo
At half past two he was taking off my shoes
Ooh my baby, diddy dum, diddy doo

Etc.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 03/07/2021 08:41

Yup this and the Vengaboys Boom Boom Boom Boom.

LouLou198 · 03/07/2021 08:44

@RicherThanYew

Our school played it but the headmaster was a Christian gent and he asked the DJ to shout "Ice Cream" every time the word sex was sung.
That has made me laugh! So many memories on this thread.
CoffeeWithCheese · 03/07/2021 08:46

Bad Touch I will always remember for working at a language summer school and being on a coach trip with a bunch of Spanish teens who had spectacularly misheard the lyrics and were giving it large singing "you and me baby ain't nothing but camels"

AbsolutelyPatsy · 03/07/2021 08:48

i have vivid memories of riving my dc to school when she was about 2 singing along to Sex Bomb

MrsToothyBitch · 03/07/2021 08:48

@Terrazzo back in the 90s I also thought it was just the way the singer said "honey", too! " Oh such innocence.

Then again, "I kissed a girl" and "your sex is on fire" were huge hits in the late 00s. Also not subtle.

GameSetMatch · 03/07/2021 08:49

Yes I remember this playing all the time! Discos, shopping malls, cafes and everywhere else really!

Lowhum · 03/07/2021 08:51

Yes- most of my friends bought the CD single!

Mariposa123 · 03/07/2021 08:55

@Terrazzo haha amazing! I do remember a boy in my class (we must’ve been year 4 I think) loudly telling everyone he knew what horny meant but then I don’t remember him ever telling us 😂

CaffiSaliMali · 03/07/2021 08:56

It was a primary school disco classic in the late 90s - I remember dancing to it at my year 5 school disco and at my year 6 leavers disco.

They also played 2 become 1 by the spice girls and that 'I'm horny, horny, horny, horny tonight' one. And the Vengabuoys 'boom boom boom boom, I want you in my room' one. Aqua's Barbie Girl too 'you can brush my hair, undress me everywhere'. And Gina G of course. Oh and 'I believe in miracles, where'd you come from, you sexy thing'.

I miss the 90s, those discos were great. We used to wear a glittery dress with a feather boa, a load of that body glitter on our faces and arms, blue mascara my friend 'borrowed' from her mum, a pale frosty lipstick I got free with Sugar, Bliss or Mizz magazines and hair mascara with those little butterfly clips.

Then the school served orange and blackcurrant squash which was barely diluted with water, accompanied by foamy banana sweets with those teeth shaped chewy sweets which came in a jumbo sized tub.

Tiesto The Business will be played at Y6 leavers parties all over the country in the next couple of weeks.

MagicSummer · 03/07/2021 09:00

Well - I'd never heard this song before! It is quite catchy, although I don't think it is appropriate for children to be singing the words.

We never had discos at my school either.

CaffiSaliMali · 03/07/2021 09:00

The Tamperer feat. Maya 'Feel It' was another late 90s school disco classic. 'You made your bed and she was in it no no no'.

MrsMaizel · 03/07/2021 09:08

@RicherThanYew

Our school played it but the headmaster was a Christian gent and he asked the DJ to shout "Ice Cream" every time the word sex was sung.
You sure it wasn't "I scream" ? 😂😂😂😂

Going further back we all sang "Like a Virgin touched for the very first time " 🙄😂
