Did anyone else's school used to play this song at their school disco? I was 9 when this came out and remember dancing it to with everyone else, complete with hip thrusting actions Confused Hmm

I randomly remembered this and mentioned it to a friend yesterday (same age, different school) who was shocked and questioned what kind of effed-up school I went to. Did I!? Or was this an often played song at yours too!?

I don't remember them playing that one at the school disco but I definitely remember it! The one I remember at the school discos was "Saturday night, da dee da dee da da da, pretty baby" dancing and wearing the crazy clips in my flat middle parted hair with torquoise eyeshadow thinking I looked amazing. Simpler times Grin my 14 year old niece looks like a grown woman compared to 14 year old me!

NotMyCat · 02/07/2021 23:44

Oh yes! I remember bloodhound gang bad touch being played at our leavers do as well it's the song of me and my FWB Blush

Whatapalavaa · 02/07/2021 23:45

Knew all the words at a very inappropriate age. Still love that song.

meow1989 · 02/07/2021 23:48

Yup, I remember clearly being in year 6 and this playing whilst I was lining up to buy some sweets. Grim really.

On a lighter note did everyone also have the one song (it's like that and that's the way it is?) that people would instantly get into a circle for people to breakdance or do something in the middle?

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 02/07/2021 23:49

Yep, and the I'm Horny, horny horny horny one too

FlyingBattie · 02/07/2021 23:49

I remember at our Y11 leavers disco the DJ tried to played Nine Inch Nails "Closer", which was very swiftly shut down by the teachers!
(I think that's probably over the innuendo line and well into the "blatant filth" category, to be fair)

Run DMC! God, this thread is taking me back. I may have to get on YouTube.

I also remember the mens club my grandad was a member of having children's parties on various special occasions (Easter, Christmas, bank holidays etc) attending as a child first and then forced to as a teen to help out and supervise and them ALWAYS playing the Time Warp at every single time.

It's the pelvic thrust, that really drives you insaaaaaaane.

And the grown ups encouraging the kids to do the actions!

Hm2020 · 02/07/2021 23:54

Was only 6 in 99 but everything I seem to remember from primary school seems fucked up right now compared to my now ds in primary Hmm

FuckUcuntychops · 02/07/2021 23:55

Fuck that was a blast from the past! I remember dancing to this at my secondary school leavers disco where the teachers sold us bottles of hooch for £1 a bottle! Confused

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 02/07/2021 23:55

Also had Freak Me by Another Level too - I had my first kiss with my first proper boyfriend to that song!

minniebin · 02/07/2021 23:55

Yep we did the faux breakdancing to run dmc & the irish dancing to Betwitched. Honestly the school discos back then were everything! I also learnt how to twerk - although we didn't call it that then.

DeflatedGinDrinker · 02/07/2021 23:57

Knew it would be that song before I even clicked 😂😂😂😂😂 yes they played that at our school discos 😂 I was the awkward kid who never wanted to thrust

CryMeAnAquifer · 02/07/2021 23:58

1993, Year 6 leavers disco at catholic primary school. We are all singing loudly “girl I wanna make you sweat, sweat til you can’t sweat no more… and if you cry out - I’m gonna push it some mo-o-ore…”

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 02/07/2021 23:58

I'm old, I remember push it being played

Hardbackwriter · 03/07/2021 00:02

I saw the title of the video and didn't recognise the singer in the screenshot and thought 'of COURSE they didn't play a song called sex on the beach at school discos'... Then pressed play and recognised it from the first bar as an absolute school disco classic banger BlushGrin

LemonFantaGin · 03/07/2021 00:06

Oh the flood of memories! Yes, you're not alone there

MotionActivatedDog · 03/07/2021 00:06

Which came first? The drink of the song? I remember singing along to it as a child and my dad tutting and my older cousin saying “it’s just a drink they’re singing about” and I took her word as gospel Grin

Polkadotties · 03/07/2021 00:06

Born in 1989, this definitely would have been played.
OH and I watched a programme this evening, best songs of 1996, god they don’t make music anymore like the did in the 90s. What a time to be alive musically.

MotionActivatedDog · 03/07/2021 00:06

Also strong memories of singing about a woman with a chimney on her Grin

stayathomer · 03/07/2021 00:11

Tbh, apart from containing the word "sex" I don't recall it being any more risqué than any pop song
"You goddamn you goddamn you goddamn hoe" Weren't they the words?

No

DoucheCanoe · 03/07/2021 00:15

Yes, also played on repeat at our under 18's club in the church hall for weeks on end.

@MotionActivatedDog we had that too! Now I'm older I can only assume they were singing about the wicked witch of the East 🤣

Hardbackwriter · 03/07/2021 00:17

The one that we also had and which I later realised is absolute filth (Google the lyrics) is 'Boom Boom Boom (Everybody Say Wayo)'

DoucheCanoe · 03/07/2021 00:18

@Hardbackwriter I bloody LOVED that song 😁
