Surely you would have cameras in a Government building and surely pointing it at doorways between different areas or departments isn't a bad idea.
It looks like a screenshot of a cctv security camera monitor.

@JaniieJones

'oh i don't know, almost 2 trillion in debt, huge fraud, an NHS in crisis, a generation robbed of their education and 150k dead '

Yes that was the pandemic you see. A generation would have sadly been 'robbed of their education' whoever was in. We'll have to wait and see about the 'huge fraud' won't we. The 2 trillion in debt was necessary sadly to pay for such things as furlough and the massively extended critical care services, unless you'd like people to have been out of work without any pay and perhaps they shouldn't have chucked astronomical resources at the nhs to manage the surge. Yeah but no but?

Other countries kept kids in school, many ran exams, even now, we send home 100s of '000s of school children for no good reason.

Lowest number of hospital beds, nurses & doc;s (per 100k) compared to similar sized eu countries & following 10 years of austerity (inc running down PPE emg stocks) the nhs was always going to suffer and its why the government is terrified of delta, the nhs they have screwed up cannot cope with even a moderate increase in hospitalisations.

Furlough was required but by delaying LDs and not even bothering with even basic fraud checks, we have made that borrowing worse than it should have been.

But still the tories can do no wrong for people like you, see most opposition supporters can see the mistakes made by Labour and the faults in the EU but tories voters? no way.

@Peregrina

Yes, I am pleased to see the Batley and Spen result after a dirty, divisive campaign. Apparently, it has previously been a Tory seat until Blair's landslide in 1997. You can't say that George Galloway siphoned off Labour votes - he could equally have taken them from people who might have voted Tory.
Brilliant news, BBC's R4 focusing on the small winning margin!

I guess 16 candidates is going to rob all the major parties of votes.

Peregrina · 02/07/2021 08:30

Brilliant news, BBC's R4 focusing on the small winning margin!

Doesn't matter - under FPTP a win of one vote is good enough. It was pleasing to see that the far right candidates came nowhere. I see the Tories also lost some vote share. The main thing is, for me, that it's not the endorsement Johnson wanted.

Did Hancock's behaviour affect this? I suspect we won't really know.

thecatsatonthewall · 02/07/2021 08:36

Very true, some Tory on Sky says the Hancock affair did cost them votes, who knows?
They lost Chesham long b4 Hancock.

Blossomtoes · 02/07/2021 09:03

Cheered me up no end when I heard the result this morning. And we won’t have to put up with a lot of Tory gloating - happy days.

Peregrina · 02/07/2021 09:05

They lost Chesham long b4 Hancock.

They are lucky though - this Labour win which they are saying isn't really has knocked that devastating loss out of the news.

Which like all by elections was a combination of factors, but losing a 16,000 majority to an 8000 gain for the winning party needs more than nimbyism. Maybe the general corruption of cash for mates was already cutting through?

Sostenueto · 02/07/2021 09:38

Al (aka Boris) is intelligent and articulate. He's nothing like 'Boris'. I really don't get what he's playing at. It's a complete joke, but it's not funny at all.

Because he a d his Ilk from Oxford cannot stop themselves from taking the piss out of the common people. And as he has had no scrutiny or accountability due to his vast majority and Parliament ham stringed and bypassed and also treated with distain by this Government , he feels they can do want the hell they like and they can get away with it and are getting away with it big time!

Odisia · 02/07/2021 09:52

Sostenuto yep, I think you've hit the nail on the head. It's disgraceful.

Me too. And Galloway throwing a tantrum is an added bonus.
Peregrina · 02/07/2021 10:28

Blossomtoes: me too. The Tory win was supposedly in the bag, and they would have been even more insufferable than they already are.

Roussette · 02/07/2021 10:32

There's footage out there with GG saying Labour will come third. He said he would eat his hat if that didn't happen.

Waiting....

Peregrina · 02/07/2021 10:35

A dangerous thing to do. Paddy Ashdown did the same once I recall and made a cake in the shape of a hat. Cheating!

Blossomtoes · 02/07/2021 10:38

I’ll happily supply the hat.

Classica · 02/07/2021 11:02

The FT journalist Jim Pickard made an ‘I’ll eat my hat’ comment last month about the Lib Dems chances of winning Chesham and Amersham. He sportingly made a video the next day where he did indeed eat his hat. (Well not really, but it appeared as if he did Grin.)

Peregrina · 02/07/2021 11:35

Classica - I saw that - presumably fondant paste died black? It did look convincing though.

SueSaid · 02/07/2021 11:39

'Because he a d his Ilk from Oxford cannot stop themselves from taking the piss out of the common people. '

When do they 'take the piss out of the common people'? On this very thread we've had people making sweeping sneering comments about 'steel workers' and 'taxi drivers' who all apparently say 'good old boris'.

Oh god Starmer is making a speech at Batley trying so very hard to have some charisma yet sadly failing. It's the Josh Widdecombe voice imo.

Blossomtoes · 02/07/2021 11:41

Nobody sneered.

SueSaid · 02/07/2021 11:53

'Nobody sneered' Hmm

'A friend said to me the other day that as long as taxi drivers are saying “Good old Boris” we’re fucked'

'I'd argue that anyone who says "good old Boris" is fundamentally incapable of cogent, critical thought and also lacking in the ability to assimilate'

'I remember some steelworkers being vox popped and they insisted there was no way Boris would ever let them down'

Those taxi drivers eh incapable of cogent critical thought and the silly steel workers too. Tut tut.

Roussette · 02/07/2021 11:54

At least he's a decent intelligent man. Compare him to BJ... a serial adulterer who has child/children he won't acknowledge, a man who blusters and lies, who treats the public with contempt, a man who always wanted the big job, but is too lazy to do it effectively, a man who idly throws out racist remarks, I know who I'd prefer.

I don't give a fuck about charisma, I want someone honest who is capable of doing the job without bluster, soundbites and lies.

Blossomtoes · 02/07/2021 11:55

None of that is sneering Smile

"I want someone honest who is capable of doing the job without bluster, soundbites and lies."
Yes to this.

TheMagicDeckchair · 02/07/2021 12:09

I’m in the Batley & Spen constituency. In my opinion this by-election was all about local issues rather than national ones. Labour absolutely threw the kitchen sink at this one to win, I’ve never seen so many election leaflets. Kim is a popular choice, and the right one. Tracy Brabin wasn’t well liked in the constituency but in the 2019 elections a popular local right wing independent candidate split the blue vote.

Tory candidate refused to reply to any of our questions. I dare say the Hancock drama didn’t help. I think some “soft” tories, fed up of the Tory sleeve, lent their support to a local candidate who has strong roots in the area.

I think GG’s behaviour bought labour extra votes. His intention was to oust Starmer.

Well done Kim.

Roussette · 02/07/2021 12:13

That's interesting MagicDeckchair

Well a win is a win but I think you're overeggging this somewhat. She won by 300ish so just as well they 'threw the kitchen sink at it.

'Who’s sneering now?'

Oh god we're allowed to sneer at politicians. Its sneering about the thickness of taxi drivers that is rather crass and unpleasant.
