Surely you would have cameras in a Government building and surely pointing it at doorways between different areas or departments isn't a bad idea.
It looks like a screenshot of a cctv security camera monitor.

'And, as a barrister, he should also be able to drive a coach and horses through Boris's incoherent ramblings.'

Exactly! But nope, he's like a rabbit in the headlights constantly, with Rayner muttering 'Tory scum' next to him. I mean please. Then folk wonder why the Conservatives are in power.

'He's not "a laugh". He's a manipulative, duplicitous, scheming dangerous, ruthless, incompetent spoiled bastard and anyone who doesn't realise that needs their head looking.'

He's not that bad calm down. Better than Corbyn though which is why is in, remember Dec 2019?!. Maybe instead of writing to MHs deselection thing write to Labour head office with some tips and advice on trying to get an electable team pulled together.

Sostenueto · 01/07/2021 12:46

repeat, what he did was wrong and he had to resign but footage obtained covertly should not be publicised when there are families and dc affected by the gratuitous images.

Totally disagree. Millions have suffered millions of children and families. As much as I feel sorry for the files involved it was IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST that he was laid bare. For now he's no longer a prominent Minister they can get him for his other real crimes without public outcry about him being Health Minister.

Roussette · 01/07/2021 12:48

Not that bad?

Ye Gods. Personally I'd prefer a PM who didn't lie continually. Under the ministerial code, if you lie in the Commons, you are supposed to correct the record. Unless you are Johnson of course.
He veers from not being totally straight to outright dishonesty.

I'll link it again. Needs looking at, and retweeting anyone on Twitter.

My late dh followed Boris' exploits with interest and amusement. He would have so loved the political events of the last few years.

Clearly very few people would believe this wasn't a long standing affair. After the Sun article both of them were left with little choice other than move out, leaving their children and spouses. Now that we know the camera's positioning was altered I wonder who would have done that or who the whistle-blower was. One Minister said it would be a sacked employee so who could he mean?

Classica · 01/07/2021 13:08

I'm intrigued to see how Boris Johnson's political career ends. I suspect there'll be one scandal that hits hard and it will be game over. Or maybe he'll feel a Tory knife in his back. Either way, I don't see him going the way of Thatcher, tearfully waving as he's gently put out to pasture. I suspect it will be a tad messier than that.

thecatsatonthewall · 01/07/2021 13:08

KS does, the trouble is Johnson rarely if ever answers the question.

Raynor said Tory Scum once, months ago and tbh she was correct to do so.
Remember what it was about? feeding the nations poorest children - it took a footballer to get this done... anyone who supports children going hungry is scum.

As for a new leader/team ? pointless, whoever is in charge of Labour faces exactly the same problems - no1 being that Labour are held to higher standards than the Tories and if the media cannot find anything wrong, they target how a burger is eaten OR make stuff up, such "Starmer to make millions from land sale" from a field he isn't selling, has no planning and was gievn to his parents for animal rescue.

Even with another maternity scandal in Nottingham, or Gove found guilty in the high court, the tories are always given a free pass and little scrutiny of policy.

Blossomtoes · 01/07/2021 13:13

It won’t just be one. They’re ruthless bastards, the second he’s outlived his usefulness they’ll heave him out. Even his cabinet will fail to support him. The absence of supportive comments and tweets for Hancock was deafening. It’ll be the same for Johnson when the time comes.

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 13:15

'Starmer might have been more effective if we hadn’t been living through the worst crisis for over 70 years.'

Ditto Johnson.

They did get a free trade deal with the EU remember, while all the scaremongering on multiple mn threads predicted disasters . They have had an incredibly successful vaccination programme (yes yes the nhs ran it but the dhsc/ nhs are of course gov led). We are returning to normal.

They have had very similar results infection and death wise (per million) as the other home nations and countries such a France, Spain and Italy www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

The pandemic has been terrible. Thankfully we had the 2019 election result we had or it would be been a million times worse.

Blossomtoes · 01/07/2021 13:21

That’s literally impossible.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 13:26

@JaniieJones

Calm down.

Patronising and rude, particularly when directed at a poster who did the research you can't be bothered/don't know how to do about deselection and other issues governing the workings of the corrupt government you're so keen to defend.

Vaccine programme - that's not Boris's work. He (or someone else, probably) got a competent, detail-oriented, intelligent WOMAN in to do the heavy lifting for him.

www.gov.uk/government/news/kate-bingham-appointed-chair-of-uk-vaccine-taskforce

Sorry, in the list of adjectives describing Johnson, I forgot to mention LAZY.

Classica · 01/07/2021 13:34

Wasn't 'calm down (dear)' one of David Cameron's famous quotes. Deep devotion to the Tories from that poster I see.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 13:37

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-13211577

Yup - to Angela Eagle.

"I'm not going to apologise", said Dave. Well, obviously - the Tory slogan might as well be: "Never apologise, never explain".

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 13:39

'Patronising and rude, particularly when directed at a poster who did the research you can't be bothered/don't know how to do about deselection and other issues governing the workings of the corrupt government you're so keen to defend.'

Not 'keen to defend' just inconveniently will dispute some of the claims. I don't like classist sneering about 'taxi drivers' and 'steel worker' for starters, I did indeed ask about deselection as I was stumped as to why we haven't got rid of ministers this way before .

I'm not a massive Johnson fan particularly but he's done the best with the info we had at any given time (barring banning anyone inexplicably travelling here from India earlier in apr)

Again, labour need to concentrate on finding a decent team instead of the ragtag bunch they currently have.

Notonthestairs · 01/07/2021 13:41

We ditched our terrible tone-deaf Tory MP in the 2019 election so I am grateful for that I suppose.

I do miss hearing from the more capable experienced 2019 MP's like Clarke and Grieve however.

And I think I miss May as party leader (never ever thought I'd write that). I think they'd have been fewer dodgy deals done - although who knows maybe she was busy running the home office from her gmail account...

Agree Johnson's end as PM will be messy and he definitely won't retire to the back benches to continue his public service as an MP.

thecatsatonthewall · 01/07/2021 13:42

The pandemic has been terrible. Thankfully we had the 2019 election result we had or it would be been a million times worse

Our excess deaths rate increase over the last 12 months is one of the highest in the world, higher than Brazil and anywhere else in Europe.
So its rather hard to see how things would have been worse!

We've also had no vaccine dividend, we still have restrictions, still can't go on a foreign holiday due to shockingly hi CV rates, caused by allowing in 20k Indians with no checks or quarantine.

Corbyn after all never caught CV, neither did Abbott, Johnson was one of the very first leaders to do so.
Hancock obviously wasn't observing any of the rules, so i'll forgive that one lol!

Roussette · 01/07/2021 13:48

@thecatsatonthewall

So agree. And the outcry when Diane Abbott drank a Mojito on the train. Shock horror! It went on for days. Yes, Labour are held to a higher standard than the lying Tories.

If only John Bercow were still Speaker, he would be holding Johnson to account far more than Hoyle.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 13:52

Honestly, Google is your friend.

Roussette · 01/07/2021 13:52

The pandemic has been terrible. Thankfully we had the 2019 election result we had or it would be been a million times worse

I think not.
Do you have a crystal ball by the way?

I think Johnson will go quickly. It will be one lie, one act, one revealing of something too far... and he'll just quit.

I long for the day

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 13:56

'Honestly, Google is your friend'

Oh I see! Sorry I thought on a chat forum it was ok to ask things? I will Google next time promise 🙄

thecatsatonthewall · 01/07/2021 13:56

@Roussette Its a wonder Labour get any MPs tbh.

Starmer is a decent man, intelligent and he cares about improving the lot of people at the bottom of society, Johnson on the other hand, cares only about himself.

Any man who fathers so many children, yet isn't there for them as they grow up, is no man at all - yet still has the nerve to get married at Westminster, awful behavior.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 13:58

The fact he's still in power after the utter shambles of the last 18 months just beggars belief, to be honest.

I'm no fan of the Tories (and I know he wasn't a popular Health Sec) but Jeremy Hunt was on Marr on Sunday and he came across really well. Articulate, cogent, thoughtful. Obviously, he was a candidate in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election - wish he'd won.

Also, among his resignation Tweets, one was:

I've been a cabinet minister for every hour my 3 gorgeous children have been alive. So whilst it may seem strange for someone who just tried to become PM (& is a terrible cliche) I have decided now is the time for the biggest challenge of all - to be a GOOD DAD!

Don't know how true this was - but I think he's a much better egg than Johnson, and brighter as well.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 13:59

@JaniieJones normally shows more of a sense of real inquisitiveness to ask first, "Is this something I could find out using my own independent thought and resourcefulness?"

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 14:00

Any man who fathers so many children, yet isn't there for them as they grow up, is no man at all - yet still has the nerve to get married at Westminster, awful behaviour.

Abhorrent, agreed - but the Church should have said no, instead of weaselling around relying on incomprehensible and nonsensical Canon Law.

Blossomtoes · 01/07/2021 14:01

Its a wonder Labour get any MPs tbh

To be honest encouraging Tracy Brabin to stand for West Yorkshire mayor was an own goal. I think there will be one less Labour seat tomorrow morning, if only because Galloway will split the vote.
