Surely you would have cameras in a Government building and surely pointing it at doorways between different areas or departments isn't a bad idea.
It looks like a screenshot of a cctv security camera monitor.

'A friend said to me the other day that as long as taxi drivers are saying “Good old Boris” we’re fucked. Some of the talking heads before the last general election were horrifying, people voted for Johnson because “He’s a bit of a laugh'

Oh stop being so snooty and patronising. I voted for the Conservatives because the alternative was horrifying. Corbyn and Abbott running the country? No thanks.

As I said up thread we need a convincing opposition and the wibbly thick bunch we have are not that.

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 12:03

'A friend said to me the other day that as long as taxi drivers are saying “Good old Boris” we’re fucked'

In fact not even just snooty and patronising but classist and utterly cringeworthy than you would think to post this.

'As long as taxi drivers' I mean, seriously Confused. Are they all stupid then because that seems to be your opinion.

Blossomtoes · 01/07/2021 12:04

Can you please stop being so rude @JaniieJones? It’s just not necessary.

Since you asked, deselection is at the discretion of the local constituency party. If a majority of its members decide they no longer want Hancock to represent them, off he trots and they interview for a replacement.

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 12:10

Please report any 'rude' posts blossom.

'A friend said to me the other day that as long as taxi drivers are saying “Good old Boris” we’re fucked'

To say this is snooty and patronising is not being 'rude'. I do HTH.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:11

@JaniieJones the Conservative party's constitution governs the deselection process for the party. However, if you don't fancy trawling through that 74 page document (which, according to the front page, used to cost you £10 before it was downloadable - how Tory) Anoosh Chakelian of the New Statesman has helpfully summarised it in this article.

www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2019/09/how-do-you-deselect-tory-mp

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 12:12

Ah I see. So are they doing this do we know, have they initiated it?

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:14

Does it have to follow a judicial process?

The constitutional concept of the separation of powers mean it would never follow a judicial process.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:15

*means it would never

My rage about our current government has affected my ability to identify the operative noun in a sentence. That's how bad things have become.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:18

According to the BBC, Ian Houlder, who sits on West Suffolk Council (fair play to you, Sir), wrote to the local party calling for MH's deselection.

However, MH has received the overwhelming backing of his constituency party, despite a call to deselect him.

Depressing.

I was quoting my friend who uses taxi drivers as a synonym for popular opinion. If you don’t like it tough.

I have a policy of never reporting posts. If people are rude or offensive, it’s better they stand. They say a lot about the poster.

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 12:20

'The constitutional concept of the separation of powers mean it would never follow a judicial process'

It's interesting, I've never heard of it before. When other MPs have behaved badly/broken codes/travelled while positive etc we always heard that they can lose the whip or whatever but can't be sacked from their constituency role.

Roussette · 01/07/2021 12:21

But it is' people thinking it's old Boris, what a hoot he is.

I have a friend I've known a long time, we don't talk politics. She likes Boris 'because he makes me laugh'.

Is that all we need in a PM? A buffoon who musses up his hair and comes out with a load of soundbites? Is that it?

That's why we don't talk politics, her and I !

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 12:21

'was quoting my friend who uses taxi drivers as a synonym for popular opinion. If you don’t like it tough'

No, I don't like this kind of classist opinion. I think it says a lot about you supporting it tbh.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:22

I'd argue that anyone who says "good old Boris" is fundamentally incapable of cogent, critical thought and also lacking in the ability to assimilate and analyse the very significant evidence before them, which is one of the signs of a lack of intelligence.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:24

Of course, nobody is allowed to say anyone else is stupid any more, so I imagine I'll be piled on for even expressing that opinion.

Blossomtoes · 01/07/2021 12:24

It’s like the man on the Clapham omnibus. Exactly the same principle. 🤷‍♀️

Exactly @Roussette. Scary, isn’t it?

why would she care what you think tbh?
Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:25

@JaniieJones I have heard of the concept of deselection before, not didn't know exactly how it was done.

Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:27

I'm quite disappointed in Starmer, though - he really should have been able to galvanise his party into a stronger opposition.

And, as a barrister, he should also be able to drive a coach and horses through Boris's incoherent ramblings.

SueSaid · 01/07/2021 12:28

'I'd argue that anyone who says "good old Boris" is fundamentally incapable of cogent, critical thought and also lacking in the ability to assimilate'

Perhaps, however I've never heard anyone say that. Not even 'taxi drivers' or 'steel workers'.

Back in Dec the general consensus was anyone but Corbyn tbh. If we want a different leader then Labour have got to produce an electable and convincing team yet they keep failing to do so.

Rhinothunder · 01/07/2021 12:29

@Piglet89
These are the contact details for matt hancocks constituency office. Maybe enough people contacting them to request deselection will change their mind. He is a disgrace and needs to go. What a joke he is still in a position of power and drawing a tax payer funded salary

he's too frightened to be bold, too frightened of criticism, too frightened of not being all things to all demographics, so therefore gives off 'wet lettuce' vibes'.
Piglet89 · 01/07/2021 12:30

"Good old Boris" is clearly a generic phrase for "Oh, Boris - what a laugh he is!"

He's not "a laugh". He's a manipulative, duplicitous, scheming dangerous, ruthless, incompetent spoiled bastard and anyone who doesn't realise that needs their head looking.

Blossomtoes · 01/07/2021 12:33

Starmer might have been more effective if we hadn’t been living through the worst crisis for over 70 years. Effective opposition has really been impossible for the last 15 months - and he’s been leader for 14!

I’d really like to see Andy Burnham back in Parliament as Labour leader - and if he could bring Ed Balls back with him, that would be lovely!

Roussette · 01/07/2021 12:34

I agree Blossom it IS very scary.

Why don't we demand more from our Prime Minister? I may not have liked Theresa May but I thought she had principles. As we can see from this Peter Stevanovich footage that has been viewed 24 million times, the Prime Minister we have is a liar.
