Surely you would have cameras in a Government building and surely pointing it at doorways between different areas or departments isn't a bad idea.
It looks like a screenshot of a cctv security camera monitor.

The conservatives would win an election hands down if it was this month, no problem at all.
People might be angry now, but give it time for restrictions to lift and everyone vaccinated and the economy booming again and it'll be ' good old Tories ' again. In fact, I bet they have one next spring.
I can't see us having another party in power for ages :(
( I'm not a Tory myself )

TheoMeo · 29/06/2021 16:32

Amersham and Chesham has been a Tory seat

80s yes but I do think the effects of Brexit are really going to bite. Those who voted for it will be hit where it hurts when it comes to grocery charges, and reinstated roaming charges abroad and that type of thing.
That's only as far as some people think.

There is a real problem with hauliers, farmers, crops, labour shortages etc and this will affect everyday life. Even McD's are desperately short of staff!

I am a complete bitch but I did have some satisfaction when my brexit shouting, flag waving neighbour told me how cross he was that his plans to retire in Spain now appear not to be possible.
Peregrina · 29/06/2021 17:28

But I assume that the neighbour blamed the EU for being unreasonable?

Schmoana · 29/06/2021 17:33

I think the tories will spin things for the next era - get rid of Boris he was the brexit man - normal service is now resumed.

Like the latest spin - this is Boris who is in no way responsible for the last 10 years of cuts

On the other hand, the debt was £1trillion when the tories came to power. It reached £2trillion even after 10 years of austerity. Now it’s £2.5 trillion due to Covid. The torys Will soon return to form with cuts cuts cuts. Privatise the NHS. Police cuts, education cuts, social care cuts. The electorate will then wake up.

I can’t stand the corruption and lies though, the sooner they are out the better

BubblesThaDragoon · 29/06/2021 17:52

@JaniieJones do you actually trust that an independent enquiry will get to the bottom of it if held in a years time though? Surely you’re not that naive 😞 they’ll just get rid of the evidence now as a PP has pointed out.

SueSaid · 29/06/2021 18:01

'can't see us having another party in power for ages'

I can't either. Why on earth can't they cobble together a decent opposition, i just don't get it. Angela Rayner as deputy leader is just absolutely cringeworthy, she does not know her arse from her elbow. There's a clip of her applauding her education and opportunities in 1996 when the Tories were in.

We need a convincing, confident opposition. Every member of the opposition past and present from Starmer, Rayner, Corbyn, Abbott, Nandy all seem so wet and ineffective. Salesmen for example have to be larger than life loud outgoing characters not lispy, awkward looking, mumbly folk.

'they’ll just get rid of the evidence now as a PP has pointed out.'

Oh yes like the footage of MH?? There are clearly people quite happy to assist in revealing stuff.

coronabeers · 29/06/2021 18:13

I am intrigued what Matt Hancock has got and others not...

Schmoana · 29/06/2021 18:14

Agree about labour. I quite like Lisa Nandy. I like kier starmer for his integrity but blame him for the brexit fence sitting. He doesn’t engage the public. I like Caroline Lucas but that seems impossible! Maybe the Lib Dem’s will come through

Blossomtoes · 29/06/2021 18:14

Thank heavens for that. Long may it last.

With a Government which always plays dirty and lies and cheats perhaps that is the only way to play the game? Surprising thing is that it's the Murdoch Press putting in the boot on Hancock - what exactly is in it for him?

@janiieJones You seemed to miss my post earlier asking whether you thought the Prime Minister should follow the evidence of the independent enquiry into Priti Patel's bullying?
DysonSphere · 29/06/2021 19:12

The electorate will then wake up.

I doubt it. I have no confidence in that anymore. Even if it does, too much would have changed to row back.

The lack lustre opposition during the lockdown and the inability to hit back effectively during a real weak spot in the Tory side this last week has convinced me that Keir Starmer simply isn't leadership material. There's being a 'bad leader' and simply not being 'leader'. Not everyone is a natural leader even if they imagine themselves to be. Boris has always had that panache and flair to at least appear effective even if everyone is covering his back. He wins at the personality stakes. Keir doesn't. He's uninspiring. Labour needs someone with dynamism. I wish Labour would get it's act together with regards to it's leaders. It's been a good 15 years plus of choosing badly.

Even a female Labour leader would have made an interesting contrast against the natural masochism of Boris and co. How come the Conservatives have had a female leader decades ago and Labour haven't? I'm not for electing a woman just for the sake of it, but are you telling me there have been no capable female candidates EVER?

Peregrina · 29/06/2021 19:18

Barbara Castle should have been Labour's first female leader. After that?Hmm, can't really think of anyone. Harriet Harman possibly?

Suzi888 · 29/06/2021 19:27

@Lemonwoe

I personally don’t think he should have to resign for having an affair. Being shit at his job... yeah... having an affair ... nah..

Still, he’s left his wife for her. Wonder if that’s what she actually wanted? Imagine being stuck with him

Having an affair whilst he’s meant to be doing his bloody job- a very important job supposedly. But no there he is grabbing ass and snogging ffs.
Peregrina · 29/06/2021 19:31

Maybe if he had done his job properly his affair would have been overlooked.

But since so many people haven't been able to be with loved ones when they were dying, for him to be completely shit at the job and then having an affair in work time, is just far too much for most people to stomach.

Schmoana · 29/06/2021 19:39

Possible female labour leaders - Annelida Dodds, Yvette Cooper, Rachel reeves, Lisa nandy. all impressive.

Really like David Lammy too. Like Ed Milliband now he’s matured.

DysonSphere · 29/06/2021 19:45

Exactly. And why not for an affair? Snogging in the office? Bringing the office into disrepute? Not 'Right honourable' is he? Are the rules somehow reserved solely for the common plebs?

SueSaid · 29/06/2021 19:47

'Annelida Dodds, Yvette Cooper, Rachel reeves, Lisa nandy. all impressive.'

Annaliese Dodds impressive?? Nandy's lisp doesn't do her any favours tbh.

I know Julia Hartley Brewer is a radio presenter not a politician and I'm not a fan in the slightest but that is the kind of personality needed in politics. Loud, confident and unwavering in their beliefs.

Roussette · 29/06/2021 19:54

Yvette Cooper gets my vote. She is precise in her arguments, she never wavers and she has a killer streak. She has had Johnson against the ropes more than once.

DysonSphere · 29/06/2021 20:32

Agree regarding Yvette Cooper!

Yes 100%

In the last decade there's been a shift to a sort of personality politics. The old style, clean, sensible suited and booted type politician unwilling to get a bit dirty, be controversial even strategically infamous (as Trump often did despite people just thinking he was stupid) absolutely will not engage the young or those tuned into getting their political analysis via Youtube and other social media platforms. And you need to win on social media!

You know who I think sort of fits that bill right now? Dominic Cummings. Lol he's the only 'Tory opposition' that everyone is talking about and his tweets make the newspapers. He's brazen and he doesn't give a damn about being perceived as a backstabber. That's the bullish attitude you need these days.
You don't need to be good, you need to stand for something. Boris figured this years ago and everyone looks pass his messy personal life

Need an alliance in order to bring in PR. Labour never that keen on alliances though.

The Conservatives get female leaders when no one else wants the job. Maggie Thatcher came in after Edward Heath's debacle with constant strikes/ 3 day week . Theresa May came in after Brexit when all the Brexiteers were running scared once they realised what they'd done. Then Boris turned up late in the day when everyone was desperate for something to get sorted. Normally they wouldn't choose someone like that.

TheoMeo sums it up really well!
They only like the women when the men have run off. Typical Tory ' values' !
