Well what an almighty mess and sooo funny if it wasn't for the fact we are in the middle of a pandemic. For the partners of these two adulterers and their children you have all my sympathy for money though handy and a comfort does not make the heartache any easier💐

Okkkk · 27/06/2021 07:05

I feel the newspaper cctv actually helped them to move in . Maybe their families knew it and wished it will cool down eventually.

Blossomtoes · 27/06/2021 07:06

@IAmDaveTheSerialShagger

Good morning *@Blossomtoes* it's in all of today's papers.
Give us a link then.

I used to know Cook and wife no 2 during their affair although was unaware they were having an affair. It's obvs no different to Hancock but somehow Hancock just seems more smug. Although Cook didn't have young kids and wasn't telling people to keep away from each-other ...

Roussette · 27/06/2021 07:13

I think he purposefully made sure she was awarded that work on public money so they could grow their affair

^^ This.

She had no experience whatsoever in Health. It was just his bit on the side that he shoehorned into the job so he could get his rocks off whilst in work.

jozipozi31 · 27/06/2021 07:22

Presumably he got her in the job to make sure he was closeted with her during lockdown rather than unable to see her. ...?

Roussette · 27/06/2021 07:24

Yes. And it sickens me. Not the affair. The hypocrisy. If this was going on during the brutal winter lockdown, I will be even more furious.

DysonSphere · 27/06/2021 07:25

@TurquoiseLemur

I don't know if this is still the case but time was (I'm talking about the 60s, 70s) the wives of men hoping to become Conservative candidates were assessed for their suitability alongside their husbands. The party didn't want a politician's wife who wouldn't stick by her man, apparently. So "being suitable" was the same as "being compliant and loyal, come what may."

Didn't know about Mrs Cook No 1 and the toyboy. I do remember that RC was about to go on holiday with her and promptly called the holiday off (AND ended the marriage) when warned, when actually at the airport, that one of the tabloids was about to reveal his affair.

Really interesting! Makes sense that modesty, a strong sense of duty, emotional pliancy and a penchant for self-martyrdom would be highly desirable traits in a politicians wife. BJ's ex really put up with a great deal before finally conceding defeat. Carrie seems to not quite fit the traditional mould and has been publicly castigated for it.

Didn't know that about Robin Cook and the airport! Read up a bit. Apparently he announced the marriage was over to the press at Heathrow! Then he married his aide mere weeks after the divorce! Poor ex-wife didn't have time to catch her breath. He still went on to have a career.

It seems so many women support these men so they can make the best of themselves, only to be despised for it later.

Its90minutestonight · 27/06/2021 07:26

62% of a very small number of deaths means vaccinations most definitely work, given the huge number of cases.

Oblomov21 · 27/06/2021 07:34

Blimey. All moves do fast. He's left his wife for her?

He's always liked her, since Uni. So has the affair itself been going on years? And he just got her the job to be closer to her? But the job is £15k for 15 days, so she can't have spent that many days with him yet can she?

Roussette · 27/06/2021 07:36

Hmmm... is this all about the affair, is the affair the dead cat.

Officials have known since December that Hancock has been using a private Gmail account to conduct governmental business. That breaks the ministerial code.

So this means there is no record of him negotiating PPE contracts worth millions, the useless T&T etc.

I do not trust this Government One Little Bit

Apparently it's been reported she did some unpaid work before that, which seems odd (I mean she married a rich man so not unfeasible she could afford to, but in hindsight, if correct, was it just a way to justify time together?).
Darbs76 · 27/06/2021 07:40
**@mathanxiety* I agree, she must feel wretched right now. The whole thing is humiliating for everyone involved. What sort of idiot snogs his mistress during work hours, in the corridor at work, beneath a security camera? You couldn't make it up! Maybe BJ nailed it when he referred to MH as "f**ing hopeless" - he certainly made a complete idiot of himself by conducting his affair so carelessly. The stupidity of it all makes me wonder about his competence, overall. I'm glad he resigned.
@UrbanRambler - in fairness to him he didn’t snog her under a security camera, he snogged her in a room where a camera had been planted. This is a massive security breach and is being over shadowed by Hancock’s personal life. I’d hope they are sweeping all public buildings in light of this and investigating how this happened

Darbs76 · 27/06/2021 07:42

@Treehaus - the unpaid work wasn’t many hours and it’s common for people in her circles to be unpaid advisors to increase their own profile. I mean she’s certainly done that, but not in the way she intended!

DysonSphere · 27/06/2021 07:43

@IAmDaveTheSerialShagger

Let's also mention those who have died of Covid recently, 62% were fully vaccinated meaning these jabs are useless, but we must 'Build Back Better' eh Matt, still pushing The WEF agenda through!

Yes this is the big news that's been buried. Diabolical shambles.

Full agree although he seems like a very nice man, he has just recently put planning permission in to build a swimming pool and tennis court in his home near Northallerton. How could he truly have any idea what life is like in Tory Britain when his world and ours are galaxy's apart?

Agree 100% but to be fair, I think the central belief system is that everyone can have a tennis court and a swimming pool if they are possessed of tenacity and aspiration. Everyone lacking in those qualities is poor having failed to pull themselves up. The opportunity is there to pull oneself up. The goal is to provide opportunities. More opportunities arise when the economy is well greased at the top. The law of Trickle Down Economics ensures individual philanthropy and opportunity for those less well off.

The economy is thus working for those interested in making it work. It's a different philosophical framework, neither morally right nor wrong in basic terms I guess.

I wonder how many others are shaking at the knowledge that there are secret cameras in government buildings...

I also wonder if this one was deliberately to catch Hancock or if it was speculatively hoping to catch "someone". If it was set up for Hancock, someone knew when and where they'd be....

I agree.
twelly · 27/06/2021 07:47

I do not think that this video footage should have been all over the papers. Regardless of what has happened we cannot have a situation where footage from cctv cameras is used in this way. I verve that cctv cameras make the world a safer place but it's leaks like this that will stop this happening

Backhills · 27/06/2021 07:51

I agree telly, I'm not up to anything terrible,
but I don't like the idea that I'm being watched going about my normal business. There are rules on what CCTV can be used for, but I thought it wasn't CCTV but a planted hidden camera?

Either way it's a serious security lapse in a government building. I don't understand why that's not getting more coverage.

Treehaus · 27/06/2021 07:55

Ah fair enough. I guess only the wealthy can afford unpaid work so explains a lot about the type of people who end up in top roles! I hope free work is given as much scrutiny though as paid, due to the access of info they are privvy to and the resultant opportunities for further work.

I also wonder if this one was deliberately to catch Hancock or if it was speculatively hoping to catch "someone". If it was set up for Hancock, someone knew when and where they'd be....

Probably for him due to its location, if it was a hostile state that had planted it somehow, I doubt they would have blown it just to expose an affair. Hopefully it will raise questions about security though, it was either someone internal who could freely wonder the corridors as an employee, or someone who had a way of getting it in- both are worrying.

Apparently it wasn't CCTV, and even if it was it almost certainly wouldn't have been handed to the press through appropriate channels. I feel like in public office though you shouldn't be doing anything you wanted want to be caught on camera.

I think this is the distraction that pp's were talking about, that hidden cameras were planted in minister's offices. Everybody is salivating over the gory affair details as it's shocking. However, people haven't considered the security implications of hidden cameras in a government office. They're too busy reading the sensationalist headlines.

How many hidden cameras are there? Who is planting them and who is tipping off the press? Some countries like Russia would pay top dollar for footage. I think Hancock's affair was accidentally filmed, the real reason for the camera was to record state state business for an outside agency. Whitehall can't admit a massive security breach like this to the public so Hancock is the fall guy.

Treehaus · 27/06/2021 08:02

Nah if another country had managed to get stuff in I honestly don't think they'd blow it for this (they know now there will be a sweep).

porridgecake · 27/06/2021 08:03

Yes. The fact that someone has planted a hidden camera in the HOC should be getting far more attention than Matt Hancock's affair.
