Looks like we might need a new thread.

The thing is that all these rules where put in by the Government, because they listened to the people in the know. But Hancock listened to himself, and may not be heard of again. Seems to me that the people that are close to the PM, are doing their upmost to try and dethrone him.

Peregrina · 26/06/2021 19:54

and so the list goes on....

I thought Cecil Parkinson's wife made a public show of supporting him but then gave him the push when all the fuss had died down? As the Guardian obituary of him said he never shook off the aura of being a cad.

May be Hancock will go down as an incompetent cad? Until now, I thought he was probably a decent enough person, but was hopelessly out of his depth.

LucindaT73 · 26/06/2021 19:55

@Tealightsandd

With George Osborne. It wasn't a long time after the divorce. It was fairly soon after.

Over in France, Macron's wife left her husband for him.

Why are posters giving examples of marriages that are completely different?

We are discussing a woman/wife staying with her errant husband.

Not a woman leaving her husband for someone else.

Your example of Macron is completely different!

Clavinova · 26/06/2021 19:56

Sajid Javid gets the job.

Just heard on LBC.

CovidCorvid · 26/06/2021 19:57

I’m amazed he’s taken it after how he was previously treated by Boris.

I'm not sure she did. Parkinson was a cad.

Alan Clark's wife Jane stayed with him during his multiple affairs, many detailed in his diaries.

Cads they might be, but some women do find powerful men with status an attraction and cling on.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/06/2021 19:58

Were you touched by the fact that Zahawi won 60% of the constituency vote in the 2019 general election? Quite a vote of confidence I would say if he was 'caught out' in 2018

It might have been, were it not that Stratford's one of those areas where they'd vote for a small mollusc if it had a blue rosette. In fairness they did once end up with a Labour MP but only because Alan Howarth had crossed the floor - perhaps they didn't notice?

I was intrigued to see it was once John Profumo's seat though; rather ironic in view of the Mandy Rice Davies quote ...

Why are posters giving examples of marriages that are completely different?

Good point actually. The main focus should be (but won't) on whatever bad news is being very successfully buried.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 26/06/2021 20:01

Bojo has no other oven ready replacement obviously. Javid too obviously also does not have any integrity after he was previously treated but to accept membership of this comedy act if not for blood on their hands given lives could have been actually saved if Covid not pushed into care homes initially.

Nah, I don't buy into any of that.
Tealightsandd · 26/06/2021 20:02

Like I said. Very successful.

LucindaT73 · 26/06/2021 20:02

@Peregrina Parkinson and his wife never divorced. Just for the record:)

Hahahaha

You read too many thrillers or something.

PicsInRed · 26/06/2021 20:03

@CovidCorvid

I’m amazed he’s taken it after how he was previously treated by Boris.
Perhaps he's anticipated soon reporting into Rishi Sunak...and shortly thereafter taking back the Exchequer.
Roussette · 26/06/2021 20:03

I think it's best to take anything in the Sun with a tonne of salt

Hmmm.... unless it suits your narrative of course...

Brute · 26/06/2021 20:03

Funny thing is that you had a story in the local rag about a clairvoyant who predicted the Pandemic, and also predicts some massive event/story that will be harmfull for the government, and may lose them the next Election.??
"SPOOKY".....

TheoMeo · 26/06/2021 20:04

They don't always stay with the wives or husbands. Admittedly they only apparently started dating after his divorce (very soon after)

The standard form seems to be aide 'just happens' to be working in the Minister's Dept.
Minister and wife announce amicable break up of their marriage, all smiles for the cameras.
Then lo and behold, surpise, surprise a few weeks later Minister and aide fall for each other and announce they are in a relationship. yeah, right

The real story is perhaps not so much a man who can’t even organise an affair (let alone NHS) which includes a quick look behind the door hiring his lover - but the use of personal emails and the coincidence of billions spent on unknown dodgy non existent PPE and accidental memory loss regarding personal financial involvement/share holdings in connected companies etc or belonging to family and other mates.

lightand · 26/06/2021 20:07

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil

‘Ridiculous. 150,000 dead but resigns over an extra-marital affair.’

This. The affair is the least one of these dicks should have resigned over. I don’t give a fuck about his marriage. I give a fuck about unnecessary deaths, entire industries like the nighttime industry (multi billion) left to die, bullshit culture wars ignited to rile up dumbasses, the economic suicide which is Brexit and unbelievable levels of corruption.

The U.K. has entered the last days of Rome territory.

When are people going to resign over all of this?

I would have said that the main part for the resignation that had to happen, was the fact he told everyone else to wear masks, social distance etc etc for 15 months, while clearly not doing it himself. He couldnt carry on being Health Secretary any longer - his position for that alone, was untenable.
Peregrina · 26/06/2021 20:12

We can but live in hope.

I am glad that Hancock's constituency is angry with him. I don't vote Tory and am never likely to, but I think that a party which hadn't got room for men of integrity like Dominic Grieve, but has room for liars and cheats deserves to lose elections.

To be fair he resigned because of Cummings’ stance on SPADs. Presumably now the poison dwarf has gone he feels able to rejoin the front bench.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 26/06/2021 20:18

Like Pereguina said He was hopelessly out of his depth.

That has been so obvious from day 1 of the pandemic.

He should not go down in history for having an affair. He should go down as being responsible for the needless deaths of NHS staff, care workers, bus drivers, and people in care homes. Ring of protection my arse. Disgraceful and should still be hauled in front of a proper inquiry and held to account.

Permanentlygrumpy · 26/06/2021 20:20

It's a shame that all of this didn't come out before the May elections because the results might have been very different. To be fair, the public knew what the Tories were like and still voted for them. Confused
