Raging but being laughed off by others when I’ve shown it so I’d like opinions please! School uniform care labels says ‘or give it to your mother she knows how to do it’.

@FortunesFave

JellyTumble I can just picture you. So pleased with yourself.
In your eyes , the label is wrong but it's okay to make personal, sarcastic remarks , together with two photos of who a poster supposedly looks like and also okay to berate someone for using "poor grammar".
RaeRaeMama · 20/06/2021 15:06

I'm with you OP

FortunesFave · 20/06/2021 15:07
**@FortunesFave* and @TooBigForMyBoots* it is identifiable from the inside annoyingly and I don’t want to post the company here.
Eh? Nobody's asking for a photo. Tell us the BRAND or manufacturer so we know who to avoid!

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/06/2021 15:07

Why not post the company? There are plenty of women here who feel as strongly as you do. If they all contacted the company, something could actually be done about it.Confused

MotherCanDoIt · 20/06/2021 15:08

@Itsrainingatlast thank you for posting that, it’s a very good point given recent events and policy changes. Fingers crossed it won’t be in yours!

I think its quite funny. And I'm quite the feminist. But you know, I'm the mother and I know how to do it. The father need instructions 😂

That's correct yes. It is ok to make personal remarks to someone...anyone...who thinks it's acceptable to perpetrate sexism in this way.

FortunesFave · 20/06/2021 15:09

@MotherCanDoIt

Well in many ways I’m glad I posted as it seems to have split the crowd. Don’t get me wrong I laughed at first, stopped and then thought ffs yet another example of misogynistic shite. I’d shrug it off if was in a branded shop but it’s the fact my DC will be wearing it and simply cutting the label out won’t solve the issue of it being on hundreds of other children at the same school.
I don't understand. Where did you buy it? If not a shop? Also, will you be contacting the shop and the school about this?
Hexinthecity · 20/06/2021 15:09

christ this thread is depressing - so many women on here happy to accept everyday sexism and the expectation that we'll all have a jolly good giggle while we're at it - would you all be laughing and find it funny if your daughters were being told to clear the tables at lunch time in school while the boys are allowed to go out to play? thats the sort of shit that reinforces those stereotypes, if you cant be arsed to stand up for your own sake then at least do it for your children's

No. You're not "quite the feminist" at all.
twittertwotter · 20/06/2021 15:11

So bad and it would annoy me. Yes probably a joke but it's still sending a message that it's mums that do the washing.

I bringing my 3 year old daughter up to not see all this female/male role rubbish and I'm teaching her all the time. I point things out on cartoons to call out if it's stereotyping etc but even with all that she is still being told at school by other kids that "that's for girls, that's for boys" etc Angry I told her I was going to Mow the lawn earlier and she said "only daddy's do that" Shock despite it being me that mows the lawn every single weekend and my

DH does the washing and dishes and everything else! We do whatever needs doing regardless of what it is. I'm really shocked that she said that as she's not getting that message from home.

She's picking this shit up outside of home and this kind of thing in a label is part of the problem!

Totally agree. Why is it so funny that women still take on the bulk of the domestic drudgery?

And why are women still trying to make themselves feel better about the fact that they still do all that shit by laughing at men's supposed incompetence in the domestic sphere?

I would complain about the references to 'she knows how to do it'.

One's mother might be a (trans)man. These instructions are deeply triggersome. 😇

khakiandcoral · 20/06/2021 15:21

possibly because we are so far away from that sexist crap that we can laugh about it.

I am guessing the professionally offended haven't quite reached that level, feel inferior in real life and use forum to release their anger.

TSSDNCOP · 20/06/2021 15:23

How many kids would even read the label?

It's a joke.

You could always give it to your mum OP.

MyMabel · 20/06/2021 15:25

Get back in the kitchen OP, if washing clothes ain’t where you belong. No big deal.

Womendohavevaginasnick · 20/06/2021 15:25

Your not quite nice either

So you think sexism is no longer a live issue?
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/06/2021 15:28

warm wash, cold rinse - not sure my washing machine has that setting

< misses point of thread >

khakiandcoral · 20/06/2021 15:31

That "label" was already going round the internet in 2015 (possibly much earlier), maybe it's for old-fashion machines? Grin

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/06/2021 15:34

Care label says ‘mother can do it’
MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/06/2021 15:34

@khakiandcoral - cross post

DumplingsAndStew · 20/06/2021 15:34

Jesus Christ, just name the supplier

Surely your aim was to prevent people buying them?

LuaDipa · 20/06/2021 15:34

It is absolutely an example of everyday sexism and I was also outraged. Until I realised that actually, I do all of the washing in our house because dh doesn’t bother to check labels. Furthermore, if I’m nervous about washing something like a cashmere jumper, I take it back to my own mother. I’m now more outraged about the fact that I am in fact perpetuating this shit than the label.
