Care label says ‘mother can do it’

Raging but being laughed off by others when I’ve shown it so I’d like opinions please! School uniform care labels says ‘or give it to your mother she knows how to do it’.

@Chikapu yes raging, everyday sexism at a school is not funny

Fifilorax · 20/06/2021 12:59

@AlexaShutUp how? I imagine most children give their clothes to their mother to wash

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 20/06/2021 13:00

Oh please. Raging?! Ridiculous.

AgnesNaismith · 20/06/2021 13:00

No that is a load of shit and directly because of this boys will grow up with the expectation that they will marry, and their wives will be the ‘mother’. Or that this is what girls have to look forward to in their future.

Fuck that.

Clickbait · 20/06/2021 13:00

I'm with you OP. Perpetuating sexist stereotypes really isn't funny IMO.

MotherCanDoIt · 20/06/2021 13:00

@Gertie75 I would wholeheartedly agree normally, partly why I’ve posted. It’s really incensed me, I’m normally fine with jokes and am not easily offended. I’m wondering if it’s because it’s directed at my DC rather than me

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/06/2021 13:01

I think it's funny and would probably phone my own mum to share it.Grin

AlexaShutUp · 20/06/2021 13:01
**@DaisyWaldron* horrible for kids who don't have a mother, or who have a mother who can't care for her child in that way. you do realise it’s written to the mother of the child and is referring to their* mother. School children are not known for washing their own uniforms.
FFS! My dc has been washing her own school uniform since around the age of 9, actually, but setting that aside, why would you assume that it's the child's mother who washes it? Are fathers incapable of washing school uniforms?

AlexaShutUp · 20/06/2021 13:02
@AlexaShutUp how? I imagine most children give their clothes to their mother to wash
Why not to their fathers?

Fifilorax · 20/06/2021 13:04

@AlexaShutUp because women are generally primary care givers from birth?

knittingaddict · 20/06/2021 13:04

It's a joke and I quite like it when brands put quirky things on their labels. It's only funny because we are now horrified at attitudes like that, although the reality hasn't quite caught up with the attitude, unfortunately.

AlexaShutUp · 20/06/2021 13:05

So let's just reinforce those sexist stereotypes with our kids so that we can perpetuate the patriarchy?

I give up!

AlexaShutUp · 20/06/2021 13:06

I might find it funny if it was a label on adult clothing, where it would be very clearly intended as a joke. I wouldn't be at all happy to have that on my kid's clothing.

20viona · 20/06/2021 13:08

That's brilliant 😂

blaisealex · 20/06/2021 13:09

Unacceptable. It's not a funny joke. It reinforces harmful sexist stereotypes. Totally unacceptable for 2021.

Fifilorax · 20/06/2021 13:09

But most women choose to be primary care givers to their children.
I went part time to take on the bulk of childcare and chores when I had DC. My DP carried on working full time. This is the case for near enough every woman I know.
I wasn’t forced to become primary care giver but as my DC’s mother, I wanted to be

aiwblam · 20/06/2021 13:10

Weird.

I’d cut it off.

TheGoogleMum · 20/06/2021 13:10

It's the sort of thing I would have found funny before I started caring about feminism. I can see why others find it funny but it reinforces stereotypes

coogee · 20/06/2021 13:11

It’s joke!

Lighten up.

Newkitchen123 · 20/06/2021 13:15

It's a joke
FFS

PurpleyBlue · 20/06/2021 13:15

It doesn't make me rage but it does make me sigh and think badly about the manufacturer.

PurpleyBlue · 20/06/2021 13:16

It's a microagression.

FortunesFave · 20/06/2021 13:17

@Toddlerteaplease

Love it!
Hmm Oh aren't you cool...

This.

It’s a SCHOOL UNIFORM SUPPLIER. Not okay.

FortunesFave · 20/06/2021 13:17

Name the manufacturer OP!
