DH thinks this is disgusting

Feel free to absolutely let me have it but me out please.
We live in a house with a downstairs toilet/bathroom which is the absolute bane of my existence 🙄
I'm 33 weeks pregnant so I feel like I need to have a wee basically every half hour these days. I've been managing going downstairs every night when I wake up for the past few months but I've reached the end of my tether. I just can't do it anymore 😭😭 My back aches, my bump is in the way, I'm exhausted and nauseated and I'm just ready to have baby already 😑
I need multiple trips to the toilet and I just can handle going downstairs that many times in one night.

So yes I have bought myself a little travel potty with a lid which I use. 🙈🙈🙈
It's out on the landing so not in our bedroom and I empty it and clean it first thing in the morning I swear!

It's made such a difference to me but DH thinks it's absolutely disgusting.
I know he has every right to think that but what would you do in my shoes 😅 AIBU?

I also nearly tripped on the stairs a few times because I'm half asleep going down them.
We're currently house hunting and definitely won't be making the same mistake going for downstairs loo.

Oh boy.

He's going to struggle with the following things:
a) labour
b) helping you post labour. I knew many people who had to have husbands help wipe etc for a few days.
b) nappy changing
c) potty training/toddler accidents
d) wet beds

As someone up thread said - he can have a bloody opinion when he's carried a baby.

Here you go.

@DeedledeDee

We've only got 1 bathroom and it's far from bedroom. I need a weeusyally twice in the night So I put puppy pad down and use an external Uri Al device I got off Amazon. It is used standing up.you have to hold white firmly but it's great, I soak with water and Toilet Duck after use.
Clever!!
ancientgran · 19/06/2021 19:36

A babies nappy is totally different to a pot of adult wee sitting on the landing for hours.

Your user name is a bit inappropriate Grin

YANBU!

Youmakemewannashout · 19/06/2021 19:53

I would ask him to get you a caravan style portaloo if it bothers him so much. When Iwas a little girl I used to stay at my nana’s house and all she had was an outside toilet. Taking a chamber pot into your bedroom at night was considered totally normal...... much better than creeping around the back yard in the cold and dark if you needed to go. The most important thing is your comfort and safety so you are being totally reasonable- your DH is not . Good luck ! 😁

ScottsThots · 19/06/2021 19:58

@moonbedazzled

Here you go.
This is brilliant and lol! who knew there were so many options for portable loos. Learning so much on this thread 😆😆

So sorry OP. Your DP is just a massive bell end.

My exH was similarly disgusted by things and would rather make me feel like shit than learn how to empathise. Is it just this incident or is he a dickhead emotionally retarded normally?

I had real issues with my joints in pregnancy and kept falling over, including downstairs more than once. Fortunately our toilet was 2 steps from our bedroom but I recall in the 3rd trimester weeing at least every hour Sad

Dont let him get away with this. Tell him his penis is disgusting because wee comes out of it..

NotTheMrMenAgain · 19/06/2021 20:03

Many years ago when I was heavily pregnant I lived in house with a downstairs bathroom and I resorted to peeing in a bucket in the spare bedroom during the night. DH turned out to be cheating arsehole but he never murmured a word about the bucket!

sst1234 · 19/06/2021 20:06

How do you wash your hands?

Yes it is gross.

ConstanceGracy · 19/06/2021 20:12

@sst1234

How do you wash your hands?

Yes it is gross.

I know exactly zero people who wash their hands after a pee at 3am.. save your faux disgust for somewhere else
sst1234 · 19/06/2021 20:13

@ConstanceGracy

Yuck, raise your standards then.

OrangeRug · 19/06/2021 20:15

It's a bit grim but I did something similiar whilst pregnant as I was too sick to move from the sofa most days. Needs must.

MrsClatterbuck · 19/06/2021 20:16

Maybe he could try being in a hospital bed for a week on total bedrest. No getting out of bed for the loo with instead cardboard bed pans for wee and poo plus having a nurse wipe you when something you have eaten doesn't agree with youBlush

NigellaSeed · 19/06/2021 20:17

He needs to buckle up. Nothing about the last stages of pregnancy, birth or post birth are glamorous, and it would all be a lot harder if you have to worry about being judged. Congrats OP, enjoy filling summer dresses and take lots of bump pics. Xx

BearOfEasttown · 19/06/2021 20:17

@ScottsThots

My first thought was 'ewww, peeing on the landing in a potty!' Confused

My second thought was 'yep, I would probably have done that too if I had a loo on a separate floor when preggo.' Grin

Probably would do it when not preggo if the loo was on a separate floor!!! Grin

YANBU. Just don't shit in the potty. Your DH WOULD have a right to moan then! Grin

ivfgottwins · 19/06/2021 20:20

Yeah it's grim

In my book not much difference to having an upstairs bathroom and having to go upstairs to use it during the day 🤷‍♀️ - I had twins - needed the loo every 15 mins - I still wouldn't have pissed in a bottle

OrangeSharked · 19/06/2021 20:20

How do you wipe? Do you also keep toilet roll by your bed? Does it not just disintegrate into the wee and then your dealing with a pot of wee and mushy toilet paper?

What about washing hands?

Does a travel potty even hold an entire adult wee? What if it overspill one day??

To all the people saying 'its not gross wait until you have children'. Theres things that are acceptable for babies and not adults. Would you be okay with your DH pissing in a bottle by the bed? What about if he smears food all over his face at the dinner table? Would you be happy wiping his arse after he's done a shit? What if he dribbled on the sofa?

Honestly nappies and potties are gross. But they are necessary in order to care for your child. Just because something is necessary for a baby that can't do the alternative doesn't mean its not gross for an adult to do it

LoopTheLoops · 19/06/2021 20:22

Good point about the wiping, I’m guessing the pissy toilet roll gets chucked in the bin, there’s no way it doesn’t smell, it absolutely would. Also don’t see how it’s comparable to a baby in nappies or potty training. An adult peeing in a potty is gross.

IDontReadEyebrows · 19/06/2021 20:24

He's being a twat, I doubt you’re jumping for joy about having to use a frigging potty yourself. If he truly thinks it’s disgusting the first shitty nappy your baby ever does will blow his tiny mind…

ChristmasFluff · 19/06/2021 20:27

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

So much easier for a heavily pregnant woman to squat over a potty/bed pan/chamber pot. Aye, right.

I've been pregnant

Tangledtresses · 19/06/2021 20:29

Ha he's going to be in for a big shock once the baby is being born! Just tell him you're easing him in gently,,,, 15 years ago I was washing a bottle at 3am sooo tired!! and wee was just washing down my leg! It's only wee xx

ChristmasFluff · 19/06/2021 20:30

Ooops sorry - "So much easier for a heavily pregnant woman to squat over a potty/bed pan/chamber pot" than simply walk downstairs.

BearOfEasttown · 19/06/2021 20:31

The OP isn't pissing in a bottle. Confused
