Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

@Beastieboys I actually don’t. Paracetamol is a terrible drug which is why now you can only buy small blister packs one at a time rather than huge quantities at a time. Ibuprofen is known to have risks, especially among children.

BrawScotsLassie · 17/06/2021 19:47

Sorry not sure what the problem is here. I work for the NHS and have been fully vaccinated. I would expect this to be the situation for everyone working in a care/health care role unless contra-indicated.

BrawScotsLassie · 17/06/2021 19:48

Can you expand?

orphananniesmum · 17/06/2021 19:49

I really don't get the fuss?

We're in a terrible awful situation.

There's a way out, with the vaccine. Let's all get it

Yes there's a risk. There is a risk of anything in life but you weight up the risk versus the gain

Smoking fags, drinking wine, getting on the bus, taking a flight. Crossing the road. Getting eaten by a shark when surfing

We weigh up the risk and decide the odds are against the danger

Humans don't have natural immunity to this coronavirus. That's the whole point of all this.
There are two ways of getting immunity - vaccination (the safe way) or by catching the virus. But that way, 1 in every 50 or so people dies before getting the immunity. That's why we need vaccinations.

Bertiebiscuit · 17/06/2021 19:50

You are being a danger not a carer
Get a different job where you aren't around people - those you are meant to be looking after deserve better than you frankly - you are put their lives at risk

Mymapuddlington · 17/06/2021 19:50

There's a way out, with the vaccine

How? Having the flu vaccine every year hasn’t stopped people dying of flu

BrawScotsLassie · 17/06/2021 19:50

Well you better get onand read the evidence for the vaccine then. Nothing like a lazy poster.

Sittingonthedockofthebay · 17/06/2021 19:51

Get vaccinated.

@honeybee88

So now we have to get carers vaccinated agains flu too of course. And those horrible tummybugs the poor old folks get in care homes.....funny how no one is dying of the flu anymore.......get real! You all need to build up natural immunity!!! Or we are all doomed. Cleanliness and health and hygine is what helps. Also to havw MORE care staff who actually care.
you can't vaccinate against norovirus, I blooming wish you could
SallyB392 · 17/06/2021 19:51

OP, I sympathise with you as I'm very uncomfortable about people being forced to have vaccines or any other treatments.

That said, despite being high risk of clots, and having so many diagnosis they read like the Gettysburg address, not to mention having 22 different medications to take daily, I was aware that in respect of the vaccine, I was at potential risk from any new vaccine, however, on balance I concluded that my risk factors from contracting Covid were likely to be higher.

As a result I decided to be vaccinated. I was given the ASTRA ZENNECA jab as it was deemed the safest due to drug allergies. With the first dose I had a very sore arm the following day (like a bruise), & may or may not have been very tired (but I regularly have 'tired' days so it might have been coincidental), but nothing serious. Second dose and no side effects at all.

The press has dramatized the risk of blood clots, the numbers of clots in comparison to the numbers of people vaccinated are miniscule.

Only you can make the decision to have the vaccine or not, but, if you decide against it you won't b e able to take the job. Either way I wish you all the best x

QueenBee70 · 17/06/2021 19:51

@Roxy69

Honestly, if you can't work out that the vaccine is scientifically safe by now, you really shouldn't be looking after vulnerable people. Sorry, but get another job. I wouldn't feel a parent of mine was safe in your care.
Wow !!!

The vaccine is in trials until 2023 so none of us know the full scientific facts until then actually . I’m sure those who have lost family members due to the vaccine may not be so quick to agree . You may also want to check out the vaccine efficacy in the story published in the lancet . Also the official figures that show that 19 vaccinated have died so far due to the delta variant and 23 unvaccinated so not much in it really. All those that want to be protected are within their rights to get vaccinated but don’t forget they can still transmit the virus too .

LadyJaye · 17/06/2021 19:52

I have to travel between E/SE Asian countries for work and, as a result, had to have the yellow fever jab, which is the only vaccination I've ever had that has made me REALLY ill for about a week.

The AZ, by contrast? Meh, I've had worse hangovers.

duffeldaisy · 17/06/2021 19:52

I wonder why it took 200 years to eradicate Smallpox.
Probably because there was a vocal minority going "oh, I don't know about injecting that into my body!" "It's from cows you know. That's a bit experimental" while carrying on spreading it for another 199 years.

Mymapuddlington · 17/06/2021 19:52

they'd only tried harder with cleanliness and health and hygiene it all would have been OK?

Strangely there was reports of a huge reduction of people having bugs and vomiting and diarrhoea etc when the masks/hand sanitizer etc rules came into place. I assume people are usually a bit gross

Actually that’s not true . My Friend is part of a clinical trial and he has received confirmation that he actually has antibodies as a result of having covid just over 8 months ago .
Nothingyet · 17/06/2021 19:53

@Beastieboys

All vaccines have side effects, all medicines have side effects. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are dangerous to some people, the contraceptive pill is more da gerous but millions have taken it for decades ..... Bet you still take them though! so if people disagree with it they shouldn't have any medicines
We are just learning about the side-effects of the vaccines. One woman in America has claimed she has become magnetic, a friend of mine says he keeps getting prompted to download up-dates, after my second jab I inexplicably bought Office 365. Coincidence?
Mymapuddlington · 17/06/2021 19:54

while carrying on spreading it for another 199 years.

I’m happy for my descendants to wait 200 years to ensure the safety of the vaccine Smile

duffeldaisy · 17/06/2021 19:56

"Actually that’s not true . My Friend is part of a clinical trial and he has received confirmation that he actually has antibodies as a result of having covid just over 8 months ago ."

Yes, he got the antibodies through having the virus.
That's what I was saying. You have to catch the virus and have it, or have the vaccine. You don't naturally have the antibodies floating about until your body actually fights it. And a couple of percent of people's bodies can't fight it. That's why catching it 'naturally' is a terrible idea. Millions in this country alone would die if we relied on only healthy food and hygiene.

Nightbear · 17/06/2021 19:56

’I’m happy for my descendants to wait 200 years to ensure the safety of the vaccine smile’

You’ll happily rely on herd immunity as long as you don’t have to put yourself out. Nice.

Christmasfairy2020 · 17/06/2021 19:56

Tbh if you work in the NHS you need to provide proof of tb vaccine and heb b vaccine so I can see why they want covid as a vaccine as well

thecatsabsentcojones · 17/06/2021 19:57

My husband is a medic, he has tons of vaccinations - if you want to be in medicine you need to be rational about vaccines otherwise you’ll be given very short shrift by colleagues, that’s if you were able to get into the job without vaccination which is impossible.

He works in ITU and can confirm that the danger from a severe case of Covid is far worse than a vaccination. The latter is a gift!

QueenBee70 · 17/06/2021 19:57

Sorry didn’t read properly !

mimosaadorna · 17/06/2021 20:01

I’m actually Totally on your side OP. This Coming from somebody who, is unable to have any of the vaccines currently available due to autoimmune issues . I think the available vaccines have too many variables which appear negative . I see the vaccine for care home workers from both sides of the fence - And I feel for you, although I see the care home perspective too. Sadly, I think you have to make a choice , Although I feel it’s a loaded choice and I don’t envy you..... I know many in the health sector would say that the benefits outweigh the risks , But then tell that to someone whose husband wife, son or daughter has died after having the vaccine. My husband is a research scientist- he won’t take the available vaccines. We are both waiting for NOVAVAX , which is coming out later this year. This one has been developed as a traditional vaccine would - quite slowly, with much longer testing before release. Perhaps you could consider that ? - I’m sure you can’t be forced to have ONLY a current vaccine RIGHT NOW - if you undertook to accept a later one, and wore heavy duty PPE ( at your own expense) surely forcing you to leave now would constitute unfair dismissal?.....
