Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

mimo what does he think about Novavax using nano particles? I was also waiting for this vaccine with hope (and I only want a vaccine to protect others) and then I read it also uses nanoparticles. I don’t think we have enough data on their safety

I'm completely against vaccines becoming mandatory no matter what profession you work in. I feel for you but think private companies will make it very hard for you to get a job in care if you aren't vaccinated.

@Mymapuddlington

There's a way out, with the vaccine

How? Having the flu vaccine every year hasn’t stopped people dying of flu

More people would die of flu if the vaccination didn't exist.

Being vaccinated reduces the risk. It doesn't eradicate it.

My husband is a research scientist

An agronomist (aka, an expert in soil). It would be like taking medical advice from a mechanic.

neurostar · 17/06/2021 20:07

@Maybevaccine

I'll have to get the vaccine aren't I? I mean now that they want to make it compulsory for care workers and NHS, I have to get it. My goal is it get into medicine in 2023, which is why I got this job so I can have some work experience. I literally have no choice as I'm always going to be working in healthcare.
I know that the media has done a good job of scaremongering here so I do feel for people who are concerned. However as a medic I want to add I find this super concerning that you want to do medicine but won't take a vaccine which is backed by medicine and science and therefore been through rigorous testing. If any of the existing vaccines such as the chilhood ones were given at the rate we are administering covid vaccines we would see a lot more reactions, but people don't think twice about those.
Notenoughchocolateomg · 17/06/2021 20:07

I'm mid 30s have had both doses of the Oxford AZ vaccine. First vaccine I had a really sore arm and horrible muscle aches for a few days. A bad headache for 1 day. Second vaccine I had a bit of a sore arm. I had my second dose in May. Never had covid and I've not died from the vaccine as far as I can tell. Serious just have the vaccine

I've watched carers in a care home for people with dementia for a year. I've watched them come outside for their fag breaks pull their masks down smoke, pull them back up and go inside.

@mimosaadorna

I’m actually Totally on your side OP. This Coming from somebody who, is unable to have any of the vaccines currently available due to autoimmune issues . I think the available vaccines have too many variables which appear negative . I see the vaccine for care home workers from both sides of the fence - And I feel for you, although I see the care home perspective too. Sadly, I think you have to make a choice , Although I feel it’s a loaded choice and I don’t envy you..... I know many in the health sector would say that the benefits outweigh the risks , But then tell that to someone whose husband wife, son or daughter has died after having the vaccine. My husband is a research scientist- he won’t take the available vaccines. We are both waiting for NOVAVAX , which is coming out later this year. This one has been developed as a traditional vaccine would - quite slowly, with much longer testing before release. Perhaps you could consider that ? - I’m sure you can’t be forced to have ONLY a current vaccine RIGHT NOW - if you undertook to accept a later one, and wore heavy duty PPE ( at your own expense) surely forcing you to leave now would constitute unfair dismissal?.....
that will depend on what the law says when it is brought in....my question to you is how long would it be reasonable to allow someone to wait? Until they have a cherry flavoured one that makes you fart glitter? Do we know how many people have died solely because they have had a covid vaccination? I haven't kept up with the sinus thrombosis stats?
urkidding · 17/06/2021 20:10

It is interesting to note that the people not taking the vaccine are from poor communities. Also a lot of the incorrect social media originated from the USA black communities. Certainly the rich in America couldn't wait to have the vaccine! Every one I know has had it and not had any large side affects. Feeling slightly unwell and slight shivering for the first vaccine dose and none for the second dose are the major ones. I had the Astra Zeneca doses, but others I know have had the Pfizer. The ages of people I know varied from 89 to 30. In that group was my mother who had breast cancer and a brain tumor in the past (86) my father who has a pace maker for his heart (89), another who is disabled from a stroke caused by a clot, a young man who has Diabetes type 1. They are all fine.

Nightbear · 17/06/2021 20:11

’I was previously open to having the vaccination but I will not be forced.’

How petulant.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 17/06/2021 20:12

Nanoparticles in medicine aren't new. They're already used in some chemotherapy drugs and cholesterol lowering drugs.

Lotusmonster · 17/06/2021 20:14

Wow. So really you are deciding that people other than you should all get the vaccine in order to protect you?…but you yourself reserve the right to decline it!!! Can’t you see how unreasonable that is?

Kettledodger · 17/06/2021 20:15

I just think of it this way ....if you want to be a hospital doctor you have to have a hepB jab . If you want to go to certain countries then you have to have certain jabs/ take certain medicines eg yellow fever/malaria. So now if you want to work in caring roles CV19 vaccination is required. If you do not want these vaccines or medicines then other jobs are available

Vodkaskirts · 17/06/2021 20:26

I wouldn't want someone who had not had the vaccine looking after my loved ones
I currently have my Aunt and Mil in them and if I knew I would be very unhappy and likely cause abit of a todo

Doodlebug71 · 17/06/2021 20:26

@Nothingyet: Oh, please don't. Many here will take that seriously ...

We are just learning about the side-effects of the vaccines. One woman in America has claimed she has become magnetic, a friend of mine says he keeps getting prompted to download up-dates, after my second jab I inexplicably bought Office 365. Coincidence?

Brondie319 · 17/06/2021 20:27

I can't believe how many people here are saying "just get the vaccine"??!!!
Are you all stupid?!
Its not that simple.
Unfortunately if i were you, i would be looking for another job. I think it its disgusting how they're forcing it on people.
Its still classed as an experimental drug and you're all part of a trial until 2023. Wake up.

niugboo · 17/06/2021 20:27

@gwennehi didn’t say they did.

Jjjayfee · 17/06/2021 20:29

Everyone I know has now had two shots and nobody has anything other than minor short term side effects and some had no side effects at all. The problem is that, apart from caring for vulnerable people, if too many people refuse the vaccine, too many will get covid and it could get the chance to mutate into a vaccine resistant virus. Go for the Pfizer or Modena and don't worry about it. I hope you love your new job.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 17/06/2021 20:30

It is not experimental. It has been approved. It is in phase four trials until 2023 which are not experimental, phase four is basically post-release support and the pharmaceutical version of after-sales support. This is to check the vaccine is performing as expected based on how it performed in clinical trials. Taken any paracetamol lately? Then congratulations, you've already participated in a phase four clinical trial.

Bebethany · 17/06/2021 20:30

Get real honeybee88 of course people are still dying with flu!!!

Bebethany · 17/06/2021 20:32
