Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

I’m shocked that you are caring for vulnerable people and are even asking this question to be honest! 😳

maxbabi · 17/06/2021 18:55

Please link research on side affects from the vaccine.

Seahorsemama · 17/06/2021 18:55

Why wouldn’t you get it when you are working with vulnerable people.

Research some credible sources

gwenneh · 17/06/2021 18:55

you have to medical degrees and say go with your gut? What about going with the science and the validated research?

Yes, all that information they teach in medical school isn't as reliable as your gut, didn't you know? Why do we need medical school at all?

ilovemygirls · 17/06/2021 18:55

It’s seems like we won’t be allowed to care if we don’t want this jab. I don’t want it, I certainly don’t want my children to have it. I’m not going to sit here explaining why because I believe in freedom of choice. I’d find a different job… sorry x

Mymapuddlington · 17/06/2021 18:55

I’m shocked that people just blindly do as they’re told. Over 60% of people have said they wouldn’t have it or have concerns.

youshouldbeplotting · 17/06/2021 18:55

@Chris08

One of the possible side effects Is death so I wouldn’t have it. This is still on trial & no long term side effects are known. Once you have it you can’t take it out so it’s up to you. There is a template you can print to decline the jab.
I keep seeing this line trotted out about vaccines still being "on trial" @Chris08. I think those who do the trotting out either have no idea about trial phases or are being disingenuous in the hope of scaring people. This may educate you on what each phase of a trial actually means.

I work very close to patients, and am against vaccines. I have two medical degrees. I’m also against the fact that some jobs are making it mandatory! The side effects of the vaccines for young people and the long term risks are worrying. The risks of the vaccine are worse than the risks of covid in the young. Medical professionals are told information at uni and regurgitation it, if you step outside the box and think different there’s no support. So don’t believe everything you’re told and go with your gut OP. If you don’t want the vaccine don’t get it, I’m sure you can get work elsewhere that will look good on your CV, and all this will be blow over in a few years when hopefully you start your training. Just keep your head down until then and don’t get the vaccine.
Yes, OP, it's always better to go with your gut rather than follow medical science and reasearch. Even better to take advice from anonymous strangers on the internet who claim they have two medical degrees.
maxbabi · 17/06/2021 18:57

My mum is in a care home (not in UK thank god) she is vaccinated and I have not worried or thought about her carers and whether they are or not vaccinated.
The point of vaccination is so you don't get so sick.
Pro choice

BlatantlyNameChanged · 17/06/2021 18:58

The side effects of the vaccines for young people and the long term risks are worrying. The risks of the vaccine are worse than the risks of covid in the young

Risk of blood clot from covid infection: 39 in one million.

Risk of blood clot from Pfizer covid vaccine: 4 in one million.

Risk of death from covid infection for a 25 year old: approximately 1 in 10,000.

Risk of death from Pfizer jab: approximately 1 in 470,000.

Now I'm no mathematician but the figures seem to suggest that contracting covid carries more risk than having the vaccine.

What kind of medical degrees do you hold?
Bushgirl · 17/06/2021 18:58

Everything carries a certain amount of risk. Do you drive or travel in cars ever, much more likely to die in there. Do you eat? More likely to be poisoned. Does your heart pump blood?ore likely you're going to have a stroke, just get the damn jab, keep your job and stop being a fanny.

baldafrique · 17/06/2021 18:58

I guess all care home visitors will have to show proof of vax to be allowed to see their loved ones - let's hope everyone is fine with that

That’s a bit strange when 80% of the adult population have had at least their first dose ...
niugboo · 17/06/2021 18:59

Get the vaccine or get a new job.

You’re utterly utterly selfish.

ArDali1 · 17/06/2021 18:59

Don't always be fooled by the media. You're always going to hear horror stories about problems with vaccines.
I am not anti vaccine but I am sometimes wary of taking vaccines.
I was hoping to wait a while before getting the covid vaccine but working in a job that requires it, I have accepted to get the jab. If you're worried about the blood clots then you are allowed to refuse Astrazeneca, which there are studies that it's best used for over elderly. But Pfizer and Moderna have shown positive response for the majority.
I had Moderna and the only side effect I had was a slight pain in my arm just around where I received the jab.

niugboo · 17/06/2021 19:00

Not quite the same. If you visit the only person you place at risk is your loved one. Care workers work with multiple vulnerable people.

All still selfish.

baldafrique · 17/06/2021 19:01

@niugboo
If a visitor brought COVID in, it would spread around the care home surely?

"Stop being a fanny" God I haven't heard that in years. Totally made me LOL 😆
Designerly · 17/06/2021 19:01

If you choose not to be vaccinated, then you should not work in a care giving environment.
Your analysis is selfish/ self-serving and not founded in science.

Millions of other UK citizens have gone ahead with vaccinations for the greater common good, exposing themselves to precisely the risks that you have decided make it not worth getting vaccinated for, and we have done it to help make you (as well as us of course) safe. It seems both unreasonable and antisocial to play the 'its my human rights card' when you ard being entrusted with the safe care of elderly/infirm/vulnerable members of the community.

Get the vaccine you regard as safest for you and join the national effort please.

baldafrique · 17/06/2021 19:01

I personally think all visitors should have to show proof of vax

IrmaFayLear · 17/06/2021 19:01

“I have two medical degrees” - it’s Gillian McKeith Grin

ZednotZee · 17/06/2021 19:01

To those who assume that care homes are currently at liberty to disclose any part of their staff member's medical history to you, I am agog at your sense of entitlement.

And I don't think that GDPR requirements would currently validate your request.

gwenneh · 17/06/2021 19:02

No. A visitor doesn't interact with multiple residents.

baldafrique · 17/06/2021 19:03

@gwenneh
Residents interact every day?!
