Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

OP posts:

@madroid

PPE and negative tests are not as effective as PPE and negative tests + vaccination.

If it was my elderly relative in a care hone I'd want them to be cared for only by those vaccinated.

Your choice. Forced vaccination isn’t mine :) lack of staff will be the more of the norm than it already is in cate

No apologies from me.

atracurious · 17/06/2021 00:24

OP if you genuinely think the PPE provided in care homes and within the NHS is sufficient then you're really in for a shock when you start work.

We were thrown to the wolves and didn't stand a chance.

TenBobNote · 17/06/2021 00:27

They're already protected if they've had the jab themselves, so if someone doesn't take the vaccine, it should be their right and their choice to take the risk of contracting covid

Not everyone has a choice whether to take the jab. Those with certain health conditions and are unable to take the jab, through no fault of their own, do not deserve to be “cared” for by someone who chooses not to take it.

Thank Goodness the govt recognises this - even if you don’t! Why should my vulnerable DS be cared for by someone who couldn’t care less if he lives or dies an excruciating death? He cannot take the jab. He has no choice!

Vaporate1986 · 17/06/2021 00:27

Effectiveness of masks is debatable. I remember watching the news with a top Japanese scientist stating they don’t work. I agree. I apparently caught so called COVID while using masks but had no symptoms. I still refrain from the vaccine.

I’ve had plenty of vaccines in the last as a child and before going to countries such as the Philippines for rabies hep A and B booster but this particular vaccine does not sit right with me.

Genuinely worrying that people like you are thinking about getting into medicine. I sincerely hope it doesn’t happen

Not me to make it clear
Egeegogxmv · 17/06/2021 00:36

Oh FFS. If you're serious about a career in medicine in the future don't get your fucking health news from Facebook. Jesus. Do you really have the capacity for evidence based decision making? hmm And you'll have to be vaxxed against more that just CV if you enter any sort of healthcare degree
Oh brutal we've come a long way down from clapforcarers haven't we😯

Vaporate1986 · 17/06/2021 00:38

Don’t get me started on clap for carers lol

Stalinist much lol

Articles like this only proves how idiotic the government is.

Who is holding who ransom? the government making the decisions and forcing the closure of business and schools or ppl like me who exercise their basic right.

Just have the vaccine
Vaporate1986 · 17/06/2021 01:11

Just don’t get the vaccine and change jobs to support worker. Company loses out end of the day not you. It’s less work than care work breaking your back being understaffed.

Done you a favour here to be honest.

Unsure33 · 17/06/2021 01:18

@ZednotZee

In every post you seem to be making a political point which rather diminishes your argument.

You are not being made to have the vaccine you can chose to leave the profession.

The facts about the risks of the vaccine are out there and you can chose to ignore them if you wish whilst the rest of us , who also may have doubts just get on with it . In many cases to protect vunerable members of our own family .

Btw I have a 48 year old colleague who has been in hospital since March with no previous medical problems. He is ravaged by blood clots through covid and has a very serious operation on Friday because he has tears in his lungs causing them to collapse . That is if they can get his infection ( about his 6th ) under control . This is the 4th time his family have been told he might not survive .

You may not be as immune from risk as you think .

The number of people who have died of a blood clot after getting the vaccine is very small. (No consolation to their families, obviously.) While many, many thousands of people (millions worldwide) have died of Covid.

The odd rash, sore arm, etc, these are minor inconveniences.

Get the vaccine or look for another job. The care homes are absolutely right to insist on this.

Unsure33 · 17/06/2021 01:22

@Vaporate1986

It’s not the government, it’s all of parliament, it was voted for by Labour as well .

The delta variant is in 74 countries now and starting third waves .

Everyone , not just the uk has difficult decisions to make .

Just move to China where they are literally putting cities under house arrest and sending in food , then you will really know what lockdown means

Unsure33 · 17/06/2021 01:24

I don’t believe some of these posts , it’s too convenient and political .

Bring in health passports for holidays and all of a sudden the uptake will increase .

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 17/06/2021 01:35

In a Covid world where most don’t even know what a Covid vaccine is let alone being offered one - there are snowflakery exceptionalism entitlement British self centred types who rather get Covid and face the consequences! If not save yourself do it for your family! The extra contagious and deadly Indian Delta third wave is rapidly coming to a town near you!

Lol there is no opposition as far as I’m aware labour is a joke at the moment they might as well be sitting on the opposite bench in parliament.

I’ll take the risk thanks we are not all scared sheep.
PawsQueen · 17/06/2021 02:05

@Vaporate1986 not all of us who have had the vaccine are "sheep"
My choice was vaccine or shield for well, a long time. I had already shielded for a year, vaccine was the option despite not knowing if it will work for me
It's pathetic when people with cancer etc are being called sheep for getting a vaccine, they just don't want to catch covid now people will say oh well I didn't mean people who are vulnerable are sheep...

Narcissistic views doesn’t make it right to be blunt

I know that there are many on here who don’t know what narcissistic means, but come on

User57892 · 17/06/2021 02:24

If by ‘get into medicine’ you mean ‘train to become a doctor’ then I hope to god you’ll get better at understanding relative risks and side effects before you start prescribing anything…

Nat6999 · 17/06/2021 02:34

The government have made a massive mistake with this, an industry that is chronically short of staff & now even more are going to be leaving because they don't want to or can't have the jab. The ones who are going to suffer the most are the patients.

Nat6999 · 17/06/2021 02:42

Vaporate86 According to what I saw in Parliament yesterday they are going to insist on healthcare workers having flu jabs as well.

lotstolose1 · 17/06/2021 03:37

How can you want to go into medicine as an anti-vaxxer?

Maggiesfarm · 17/06/2021 04:48

Probably alternative medicine. Studying conventional medicine demands high academic standards.
