Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

Well I suppose when you put it like that...

Its 'my body my choice' when you want to abort a pregnancy/unborn baby but not when you refuse to have a vaccine.

Kind of undecided whether to make a glib reference to 1984 or armageddon right now Confused

Benjispruce3 · 16/06/2021 23:08

Do you not vaccinate your children?

Notthemessiah · 16/06/2021 23:09

@baldafrique

It is interesting how noone (me included) has raised questions in the past about the flu vaccine not being mandatory in the NHS and care homes - definitely one I'm going to ponder more - flu kills SO many
Didn't I read somewhere that they are also thinking about making the flu jabs mandatory for carers too?

This is a slipperly slope that far too many people seem to be perfectly happy to run down. Maybe when they are being forced to do something they don't want to do for the sake of their, or someone else's health, they'll realise, but by then it will be too late.

WaterBottle123 · 16/06/2021 23:09

@Maybevaccine

I'll have to get the vaccine aren't I? I mean now that they want to make it compulsory for care workers and NHS, I have to get it. My goal is it get into medicine in 2023, which is why I got this job so I can have some work experience. I literally have no choice as I'm always going to be working in healthcare.
@Maybevaccine

Really? With such a poor grasp of science and ethics you want to study medicine?

Mammajilly · 16/06/2021 23:09

Honestly what happened to freedom of choice are we going to force all parents to vaccinate their children now , personally I think it is a step to far Carers are paid a pittance for the hard work they do and most do it for the love of the job. In my opinion this is not a job people do for the money!

HollowTalk · 16/06/2021 23:10

OP, do some research into how many people have had blood clots as a result of having Covid. Those numbers are much, much higher than those who've had it as a result of the vaccine. And you can have the Pfizer vaccine anyway, which doesn't have that as a side effect.

Dustyboots · 16/06/2021 23:10

Where are they going to go from here - care workers now ... who's next?

spotcheck · 16/06/2021 23:10

@BlatantlyNameChanged

What about things like chicken pox shingles is deadly to the elderly but no one is advising to get a pox jab

You can't catch shingles from someone with chicken pox.

No, but you can get shingles after you've had chicken pox...

They may find there are no longer enough Carers to do the job. I hope so.

ZednotZee · 16/06/2021 23:11

Social care staff, look lively. You have just been designated occupiers of the thin end of this particular wedge.

baldafrique · 16/06/2021 23:12

@Notthemessiah
I'm an NHS doctor and noone has ever asked or checked whether I've had the flu jab or not in my whole career. It's really interesting. Literally noone has given a shit. Same for care homes I'm sure. Now people are insisting on mandatory covid jabs. It's an interesting one for sure.

user1491404899 · 16/06/2021 23:12

You want to go into medicine op? Think you better have a rethink as your grasp on science is lacking.....

Notthemessiah · 16/06/2021 23:12

Here:

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/15/covid-jabs-to-become-mandatory-for-care-home-staff-in-england

It actually says they are looking at mandatory flu jabs for NHS staff rather than carers though.

Countrygirl38 · 16/06/2021 23:12

I do wish some people would stop implying that carers that have refused the covid vaccination are just uneducated. I know lots of people including myself that work in social care and have qualifications at degree level and above. Lots have been health professionals too in the past. Don't make assumptions on why a fair amount of carers don't want the covid vaccination. Please don't assume it is because of education levels, not understanding how vaccines work etc.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 16/06/2021 23:13

@Dustyboots

Let’s hope everyone that can medically be vaccinated. It’s for your own protection, your household family and for others. If you prefer no one to be vaccinated then it will be a natural survival of the fittest. Many Covidiots may pass away too.
Benjispruce3 · 16/06/2021 23:14

Why is it then @Countrygirl38 ?

Rachelheels · 16/06/2021 23:14

Well, what is it then?
baldafrique · 16/06/2021 23:15

Hopefully lots of school leavers will enter the care sector soon, or it is going to be so fucked :(

BimiBluebell · 16/06/2021 23:18

@Maybevaccine

He even said it will be compulsory for hairdressers, beauticians and tradesmen going into peoples homes
I have no words for how disgraceful this is.

@Sushirolls Your post is horrendous to read, too.

I am not an anti-vaxxer and have had a vaccination because, on balance, I might as well. However, I would defend 1000% anyone else's decision not to, and have advised my young adult children not to (when they have asked for my opinion - otherwise, I keep it to myself).

Covid will come to be seen as the biggest over-reaction in history, especially when a virus comes along which predominantly affects the young and healthy. Which it will. And there will be no money or resources left, because we have thrown them all at sodding Covid.

BimiBluebell · 16/06/2021 23:20

BTW, I would gladly have a tradesperson in my house regardless of their Covid status. So long as they turn up when they say they will, and do a good job, I absolutely do not give a shit whether they have a Covid vaccine. There will be a black market in tradespeople if this happens...

Benjispruce3 · 16/06/2021 23:20

How can it be an over reaction? Did you see how stretched hospitals were???

CookieClub · 16/06/2021 23:21

@Vaporate1986

My advice to the OP is to quit and try supported living as a support worker instead where it is not law to have it.

I’m dead against having the vaccine it is a direct breach of basic human rights to be forced to have anything injected into you. The same rhetoric of saying how safe it is or it’s selfish is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

It’s selfish to demand such a thing. Good luck with the large exodus of staff like me who will not put up with such a government demand and lose workers. No skin off my nose a si work for a agency anyway and have already notified them of only being available for support worker role :) this will shoot the government in the foot in 4 months time.

And the most infuriating thing is...they have already said that vaccinated people can still carry, pass and suffer from covid SO WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE??

I am beyond horrified that those cunts in parliament can try and pull a stunt like this Sad

Rachelheels · 16/06/2021 23:22

Everyone who thinks the vaccines are a conspiracy etc etc

Please can you message me, I have just had a delivery of magic beans, will sell you them at a very special price

Might as well make a few quid out of your stupidity

Happymum12345 · 16/06/2021 23:22

You’re worried about a rash as a side effect? I really think that will be the least of your worries about if you get covid.

Benjispruce3 · 16/06/2021 23:22

What difference? About a 90% reduction in death. Is that enough for you?
