Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

We have such a shortage of good carers as it is, the effects on care homes will be awful...

But the good ones will understand the risk they pose to the residents and will be getting vaccinated, surely?

baldafrique · 16/06/2021 22:47

I cant get my head around why care home staff or indeed anyone else wouldnt want the vaccine. Unless pregnant or TTC (I know you can still have the vaccine then, but it seems loads arent comfortable to). However the reality is that obviously there are swathes of people who dont want the vaccine and that will cause staffing issues for care homes. It's a lose lose situation I think sadly :(

ZednotZee · 16/06/2021 22:48

@Sugarplumfairy65

Yes, they are deemed not to require nursing care, which is why care homes are far more common within the sector than nursing homes.

Notthemessiah · 16/06/2021 22:50

@Rachelheels

Those who don’t want the vaccine or believe in it etc, what arrogance level must you have to think you know more than the medical profession?

I find it amazing that people can firstly, be so stupid and secondly, actually publicise that fact!

Get the vaccine, grow up and stop making yourself look like attention whores, it’s always poorly educated drama queens kicking off never anyone with half a brain

Exactly. Know your place and do what you're told by your betters, you big thickos.
Benjispruce3 · 16/06/2021 22:52

Get another job. If you care, you’d get the jab!!

baldafrique · 16/06/2021 22:53

Who will look after residents if so many leave? Genuine question. It's a real concern.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2021 22:54

Given that anyone with half a brain knows that the risks from the vaccine are less than the risks of being far more ill with covid, and that the more people who spread the virus by being unvaccinated and therefore enable it to mutate, what exactly are their concerns aganst being vaccinated?

IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 16/06/2021 22:56

This Government cannot force anyone to have a medical procedure done to you without your consent.

The Government will now see a mass exodus of carers who will go work somewhere else on minimum wage instead leaving a lot of empty vacancy's and vulnerable residents will now be neglected, and lawsuits. If anyone thinks this is acceptable then wait until the make abortions mandatory etc etc. Your body your choice.

JamieFrasersAuntie · 16/06/2021 22:57

It should also be mandatory for care home residents to be vaccinated, along with their visiting relatives.

No they won’t. The vast majority of carers will be clever enough to have already had the vaccine.

Quite frankly any career daft enough to refuse it shouldn’t be in a position of caring for anyone

IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 16/06/2021 22:58

@Mangofandangoo

Just get the vaccine
Why should she? Can we force a procedure on you against your consent? Did carers have all the other vaccinations as well that nurses need? Don't be such a sheep!
baldafrique · 16/06/2021 22:58

Apparently about 15-20% of carers havent had the vaccine (which is insane but there you go). Let's hope they dont all leave as then the shit will hit the fan. Scary times.

Government trolls out on force tonight gathering our opinions! So clear Hmm

A touch harsh even for the hard of thinking but on balance you are implying tough love to save all irrespective of intellectual capacity so I concur. People need to understand that this is no joke and yes don’t be mislead by the “Bill Gates Microsoft remote body and soul control” conspiracy crap! I had both Oxford University AstraZeneca vaccinations and still awaiting my supposed injected microchip to work!? Basically don’t listen to silly Covidiots on the anti social fake news media.
BlatantlyNameChanged · 16/06/2021 23:01

Where is there any indication that abortion will become mandatory? Hmm

The government isn't making vaccination compulsory, they are making it a requirement of certain jobs just as certain countries require specific vaccines as a condition of entry (e.g., yellow fever vaccine). People then have the choice 0f get the vaccine and work there (or travel there) or don't get the vaccine and work (travel) elsewhere.

RampantIvy · 16/06/2021 23:01

The Government will now see a mass exodus of carers

Why are carers less likely to be vaccinated than other people? Apart from some members of DH's family who refuse to be vaccinated (for stupid and uneducated reasons) I don't know anyone who hasn't been vaccinated.

Do these carers not see the bigger picture? Are they less well educated than those of us who understand how vaccines work? Do they only believe sensational headlines in the tabloids and on Facebook rather than that of a medical professional? Are they afraid of hard scientific evidence?

CookieClub · 16/06/2021 23:02

This is beyond ridiculous. This is segregation all over again and all of you are going along with it.

WHY has no-one kicked up a stink about the flu vaccine prior to this? Something like 40,000 people die of flu per winter, but yet health workers have never been forced to take the flu vaccine.

I am disgusted at the amount of people that are in favour of making this compulsory - what happened to free choice, to human rights??

Plus, if the residents have had the vaccine anyway...and the staff wear PPE (that boris is insisting works to prevent covid) then WHY does the vax need to be mandatory??

Also, where do people stand on a carer that has had Covid with no ill-effects, therefore natural immunity, but not vaccinated?

I am sad that this is happening in a modern society and people are just standing back and letting it happen.

WAKE UP PEOPLE

@RampantIvy
Interesting new thread on Coronavirus topic looking at just this question - why the take up is less in this sector than across the board

IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 16/06/2021 23:03

@Sushirolls

Me. I was sacked yesterday, for standing up for my basic human rights and bodily autonomy. I'm not the only one, either.
Speak to a Human Rights Solicitor, the Nuremberg Code protects you from this, all these sheep on here need to educate themselves on the law regarding consent.
baldafrique · 16/06/2021 23:05

It is interesting how noone (me included) has raised questions in the past about the flu vaccine not being mandatory in the NHS and care homes - definitely one I'm going to ponder more - flu kills SO many

Benjispruce3 · 16/06/2021 23:05

I wonder if these antivaxers drive, smoke, drink or take any risk in their lives at all given that they are so unwilling to have this extremely safe jab. You really need to educate yourselves, seriously!

JamieLeeBee · 16/06/2021 23:06

As someone who previously worked many years in the care sector, I cannot fathom why you haven't got it. My number one priority was those in my care, if having a vaccine would help me lower their chances of being infected, it wouldn't have entered my mind to even consider not having it.

And yes, i have personally been vaccinated, so I'm not just saying it because I no longer work in care.

Vaporate1986 · 16/06/2021 23:07

My advice to the OP is to quit and try supported living as a support worker instead where it is not law to have it.

I’m dead against having the vaccine it is a direct breach of basic human rights to be forced to have anything injected into you. The same rhetoric of saying how safe it is or it’s selfish is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

It’s selfish to demand such a thing. Good luck with the large exodus of staff like me who will not put up with such a government demand and lose workers. No skin off my nose a si work for a agency anyway and have already notified them of only being available for support worker role :) this will shoot the government in the foot in 4 months time.

Bagamoyo1 · 16/06/2021 23:07

OP if you want to work as a doctor then you’ll have to have a Hepatitis vaccine. I think you may need to open your mind a bit if you want a career in medicine.
