Sitting sobbing at work

A bit of background I'm a agency nurse and go around different nursing homes and hospital wards .
I'm working in a place I've never been before and I heard sniggering going on between the Care staff. This male carer came in and said have I ever heard of Austin powers as I look like him!
I told him he was really rude he's now went back to his unit . I'm sat in the nurses office sobbing , I've been having real self esteem issues lately due to putting on some weight during look down. And to be told I look like a character with bad teeth was the final straw ( I look nothing like him )

Sounds like the shift from hell. Yes they do have to investigate now but I’m sure it will all be cleared up and like you say never step foot over their door ever again x

captainprincess · 20/06/2021 10:10

People can be so so horrid.
I remember 20 years ago I was out at the pub with my boyfriend and a group of friends. I was waiting at the bar to get drinks and a guy was waiting next to me and smiled, I smiled back and he said where's Cinderella, I was completely flummoxed and said sorry? and he said it again. I said I didn't understand and he said you and your mate - ugly sisters. I genuinely did not know what to say so just sort of laughed it off and went back to the table.
I was too embarrassed to say anything to my boyfriend and my friends.
I was only about 18 and it did upset me, now I would absolutely say something and realise it said way more about him than me but I really don't understand why someone would say something unkind and unnecessary to a stranger.

sleepismyhobby · 20/06/2021 10:46

Yes some people are just vile, not heard a thing from work yet apart from an email thanking me for my statement . I'm sure it'll be a wee while before I hear anything if they've to gather evidence . I still can't think of any medication error I made . One I see it on black and white it'll become clear I suppose

They sound awful. God help the poor residents.

buckeejit · 20/06/2021 11:24

Thinking of you OP & hope it's sorted soon. What a shite situation

Steelesauce · 20/06/2021 11:53

How awful! I'm a deputy manager (and nurse) in a nursing home and I'd be livid if my staff treated an agency this way. A little trick if you can't pluck a witty comment to bat back with or feeling sensitive. Go have your moment then call them in the office for 'a word' in front of the other carers then give them both barrels in the office. Watch them and the other carers be sheepish for the rest of the shift.

I'm usually 'fun nurse' but I've had to assert my authority a few times using this method. They forget I'm still in charge regardless and need a reminder from time to time 🤣

EKGEMS · 20/06/2021 16:49

Never have I understood some of the vile, immature shit I've witnessed in 23 years of hospital nursing. I can honestly say I always try to help agency nurses because they are there to help us! I try to mentor new graduate nurses and nursing students. I sincerely hope their bogus complaint they've made is proven unfounded and you get on with your career and life.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 20/06/2021 17:08

I’m sorry this is happening to you.

It sounds very much like they are coming out with the allegation to try to deflect from their awful behaviour.

Let the investigation progress and hold your head up high. Flowers

sleepismyhobby · 11/07/2021 11:36

Hi a bit of an update
So the allegations about me doing a drug error has been dropped as no proof was provided . Also the carer that was being vile to me has been suspended , not sure if it was because of my statement or because 3 residents have complained about him and banned him from giving care. I only know this as a carer I know has been covering his shifts just now. What a scum bag it was bad enough the way he spoke to me but imagine doing that to the vulnerable residents

EKGEMS · 11/07/2021 11:48

He should be terminated! So glad the bogus allegations were dropped!

De88 · 11/07/2021 11:48

They sound like a bunch of dicks and the kind of place I'd be reporting to Adult Social Care to look at their contracts if not safeguarding, and CQC.
Hope you're reassured that this is them and certainly not you! You sound like the kind of nurse I'd love to work with Flowers

sleepismyhobby · 11/07/2021 16:13

Aww thank you . Yes I'll definitely be reporting to the care commission . Totally shocking makes you wonder what goes on in that place

Thadhiya · 11/07/2021 17:16

I'd report the fucker and relish it. Men who go into work and start belittling women over their looks - fucking creepers. Workplaces are clamping down on this shit, at least some are.

I've known a couple of women finally report their colleagues who make shitty comments, and HR have booted them, squeaking "oh bit was just banter lol" as they scuttled out the door. They're just more trouble than they're worth.

NoProblem123 · 11/07/2021 17:34

Haven’t read full thread but that’s completely unacceptable, disgusting and so rude.

People can be so horrible for no reason, I hope you are ok SmileWine

dworky · 11/07/2021 18:12

@IAmDaveTheSerialShagger

I think he was joking, pull yourself together and go check on your residents.
I think you're insensitive and rude.
