Sitting sobbing at work

sleepismyhobby · 16/06/2021 02:33

A bit of background I'm a agency nurse and go around different nursing homes and hospital wards .
I'm working in a place I've never been before and I heard sniggering going on between the Care staff. This male carer came in and said have I ever heard of Austin powers as I look like him!
I told him he was really rude he's now went back to his unit . I'm sat in the nurses office sobbing , I've been having real self esteem issues lately due to putting on some weight during look down. And to be told I look like a character with bad teeth was the final straw ( I look nothing like him )

I suppose it all depends on whether the victim is a invertebrate...

Tal45 · 16/06/2021 11:22

@IAmDaveTheSerialShagger

I think he was joking, pull yourself together and go check on your residents.
It's not a joke if the other person doesn't find it funny. That advice might help you get a relationship rather than just serial shags.

OP what a dick he is. I'd be concerned that if he thinks it's ok to go round insulting staff like that how does he treat the residents? Very worrying.

Dobbyisahouseelf · 16/06/2021 11:46

I don't understand why some people are so spiteful. I pity them really. I would report back to your agency that you had to deal with some unpleasant personal remarks and never work there again. Hopefully management sit up and take notice when they can't get agency staff to cover shifts.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 16/06/2021 11:51

I took his lunch box out of the fridge, and used a bicycle lock to fix it to the water pipes. He got his lunch box back after 3 cups of tea, and an apology.

sleepismyhobby · 16/06/2021 12:14

Wish I'd had a bike lock with me lol. That's me up fir the day as have to pick my wee one up from nursery .
I phoned my manager she was on another line so just waiting for her to ring me back . I've made a list as a good few things that we wasn't happy with including the nurse and carer speaking Punjabi when I was trying to check the controlled drugs this morning .
I'm so blessed that I can choose not to go back . I'm worried about the residents that however have no choice to be there

Oh my gosh you poor thing! That male carer needs to go do one! I would report him, what an asshole. Hope you're okay! I'm outraged on your behalf, such a mean thing to do and such childish spiteful behaviour especially for an adult! Ignore him. Thank you for being a nurse, you're amazing. Flowers

Sweetchocolatecandy · 16/06/2021 14:05

Making fun of someone’s appearance at work is completely immature and IMO a form of bullying. Well done for letting him know you thought it was rude- hopefully he won’t come out with any more stupid remarks, but if it happens again inform your line manager as no one should have to go to work to feel bullied or humiliated.

thelegohooverer · 16/06/2021 14:54

Thank you for being one of the good ones.

And you don’t need a thicker skin - having the vulnerability to feel hurt and the courage to report, is a pretty awesome combination imo.

shivawn · 16/06/2021 14:59

How nasty and rude. We would never ever treat agency staff like this on my ward.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/06/2021 16:47

If he's mocking you no one on Gods green and blue Earth is going to convince me hes not mocking vulnerable adults who can't or are too scared to speak up for themselves.

Frownette · 16/06/2021 16:54

OP was feeling fragile at the time so obviously that would upset her.

At the moment if someone told me I looked like Austin Powers I'd say "yeeeah, baby". If I had a negative comment at the wrong time that might really dent my self esteem and make me feel unhappy.

Anyway we're here for you OP carry on with your good self and hope your manager was good about it all and complaint sorted out. You'll never have to go back there!

Frownette · 16/06/2021 16:58

It's work anyway, he's such a prat

CustardySergeant · 16/06/2021 17:27

smallgoon "How do you know what OP's age is?"

It's in her second post on this thread.

WaterOffADucksCrack · 16/06/2021 21:29

I think he was joking a joke is supposed to be funny. How is this funny? It would be one thing if they were friends and saying things like this was ok with both parties and there was mutual respect between the two of them. This was something else entirely. This was a stranger walking up to an other stranger with the sole intention of saying something nasty just to upset them. I honestly don't know how people like that can look at themselves let alone live with themselves.

sleepismyhobby · 16/06/2021 21:36

It's got worse when I managed to get through to my manager . They nursing home have accused me of drug errors and as I far as I am aware I didn't make any, now I'm getting investigated . My manager is on my side and I've to do a full written statement. Honestly I feel like jacking it all in and having a simpler life.
My eyes are so puffy fro crying

OP posts:
notanothertakeaway · 16/06/2021 21:42

It's a serious allegation, so has to be investigated thoroughly. If you did nothing wrong, you gave nothing to hide. Suggest you co-operate fully and proceed with your grievance against the staff member

Motnight · 16/06/2021 21:44

What an awful situation, Op. Hope everything goes OK for you.

sleepismyhobby · 16/06/2021 21:54

I am doing everything by the book re grievance procedure . Never in 17 years has this ever happened to me

OP posts:
ilovebagpuss · 16/06/2021 22:38

From the other side our home would take it very seriously if an agency staff member reported they were treated badly on shift and did not want to come again.
Please tell your roster manager to report this back to the home. We need agency and hate getting a bad reputation so it would be investigated. If they are not taking that allegation of bullying seriously then you never want to work there again they sound dire.

Sounds like they are trying to cover up their own errors and blame you as backlash for reporting this twat of a man! I'm so sorry!
sleepismyhobby · 17/06/2021 00:04

I've emailed my statement over so don't know how long this will take to get sorted . My manager didn't even know what errors when I asked her as the nursing home were meant to fax the mar sheets over and they hadn't .
My husband thinks they are trying to get me back for putting a complaint in about them

WaterOffADucksCrack · 17/06/2021 00:41

OP You can report to CQC if you feel you have enough to report the home/staff for. The home should have reported the medication error already.

If you have a concern re the staff member and how they are treating residents you can also report it to safeguarding.

notsodimwit · 20/06/2021 03:57

Op Flowers hope everything is soon sorted out for you. It must be so worrying.

Jent13c · 20/06/2021 04:20

Oh no thats awful. Know this feeling so well when you are trying to rack your brain but don't have the paperwork in front of me. I had this recently where I was accused of sending someone home without insulin and care, spent 4 days unable to sleep and just could not picture the patient. Turns out they were discharged 7 hours before my shift started.
