Why is Dominos pizza so expensive?

Havn't had it in years and dd wants it for a big group of mates on her birthday. Looked at the menu and they are up to £20 each!! Is it worth it?

It's sad because Domino's in the states really improved their sauce and dough - they did a big marketing push around it- and while you can still get better pizza from independents in the US, Domino's is definitely the best of the big chains.

Here in the UK they still use the original recipes and charge up to three times as much because people will literally elbow each other out of the way eat any old shit.

Popcornbetty · 15/06/2021 10:26

@Wroxie it was better in Australia too, we couldn't believe the difference.

ElizabethTudor · 15/06/2021 10:26

They’ve temporarily brought back Double Decadence!!

NVision · 15/06/2021 11:04

It's a business who's entire model is based on promotions, discounts, coupons etc. Anyone who plays standard price is a mug and is lining their pockets unnecessarily (note: they make a good profit on the pizzas even if you use a promotion or other discount).

See also Prezzo (honestly I feel so so sorry for anyone foolish to pay full price there), Pizza Express, Franky and Bennies

moooshroom · 15/06/2021 11:54

Where we are, Dominos pizzas range from around 3-10GBP depending on which one you choose. Had no idea they were so expensive in the UK. A popular occasional cheap meal here.

Whyhello · 15/06/2021 12:05

I’d honestly never buy it without a 40-50% discount and don’t think I’ve ever paid full price. They’re not worth it, they are nice but definitely not worth £20 per pizza. Our bill would come to around £80 every time we ordered if we paid full price which is almost a full weeks shop.

ScottishNewbie · 15/06/2021 12:41

Papa John's is a gazillion times better than Dominoes. No comparison. The xxl size is massive and £20. I didn't realise how big they were and the time I ordered that size I had it for dinner x2 and a lunch lol.

motogogo · 15/06/2021 13:09

Because everyone has vouchers for 50% off!

Look on the website or use the app, usually it's 3 pizzas for £30 or 50% off £40 or more

motogogo · 15/06/2021 13:11

@malificent7

Yes delivery pizza is nicer than supermarket pizza, probably because it's less healthy!

Cheaper than domino's are kebab shop type places.

But ....

Why not get them to make their own, make batches of dough, buy toppings, grated mozzarella, jar of tomato paste and they can assemble their own

pigeonpies · 15/06/2021 14:16

So much salt in a dominoes! Makes me thirsty all night and horribly bloated the next day. Wouldn't willingly pay for that privilege

BritWifeInUSA · 15/06/2021 14:41

I’ve never understood why they are so expensive in the UK. Here they are $5.99 for a medium and $7.99 for a large. Much better to price this way than to have a maze of deals and coupons to navigate through and over-inflated prices.

OnTheBoardwalk · 15/06/2021 14:47

I've paid full price for Dominos once. Might have had a couple of drinks at the time and forgot to add the voucher, the bill was over £50.

I didn’t realise until a few days later when I noticed it on my bank statement

I mailed customer service and they honoured my voucher and refunded me 50%. Thought that was great service

Vickles20 · 15/06/2021 15:01

Lunchtime
Collection deal. Order and collect by 4pm
£5.99 large pizza with 1 topping

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/06/2021 15:06

Lol you’re not supposed to eat more than 2-3 slices so a single large pizza should be able to feed the whole family.

Hahahahahaha Grin I only get Dominos occasionally (maybe once or twice a year) but I can easily eat half a large one, with stuffed crust and several slices of garlic bread if I'm starving.

Dominos is what it is but there's nothing wrong with that - if I want 'proper' pizza I go to a local place that hand-makes their own sourdough bases and has amazing toppings. If I want 'plastic' pizza I get Dominos, in the same way that sometimes I want an artisan burger and sometimes only McDonalds will hit the spot!

Gullible2021 · 15/06/2021 15:08

I definitely don't agree that they are nicer than the supermarket ones. They are definitely a rip off. There is no comparison at all with one from a proper Italian restaurant that allows takeout (to be fair, I've heard even the local cheap kebab shops do some of the best pizzas in town) or some of the nicer supermarket ones. When I've had to cater pizza nights out of the work budget (work with teens), I've usually got them made at the supermarket pizza counters for a fraction of the cost of Dominoes and glowing reviews in response.

DipSwimSwoosh · 15/06/2021 15:10

They are disgusting.

Cadent · 15/06/2021 15:31

What's it to you how much people eat?! Food police much.
TheLovelinessOfDemons · 15/06/2021 16:44

I love people who have infinite choices of pizza places. We only have Domino's. We usually get them half price.

NiceGerbil · 15/06/2021 17:30

Yes check the deals usually 50% off on pizza

Get drinks sides etc from the shop first obv

We get a large Margherita and an American something change 2 toppings for £20.

I think Domino's are really tasty they use a good flavoursome cheese and they aren't stingy with toppings

Lilibet2022 · 15/06/2021 18:29

You can get deals. I stopped eating them when a colleague told me about the time their husbands work do had dominoes and one box was forgotten about amidst the business. It was found a fortnight later under a desk and it was still in tact.
We got Chicago Town stuffed crust pizzas recently. Just as nice and cost me £1.50 on offer.

I’ve tried but can’t stand their sauce for some reason!
Popcornbetty · 15/06/2021 20:28

@NiceGerbil do you work for domino's? Grin

NiceGerbil · 15/06/2021 20:50
Grin
NiceGerbil · 15/06/2021 20:50

The Chinese here is very good too!

ElderMillennial · 15/06/2021 20:53

I don't think they're that expensive tbh and if is different fro a supermarket pizza.

They do a lot of deals.
