Havn't had it in years and dd wants it for a big group of mates on her birthday. Looked at the menu and they are up to £20 each!! Is it worth it?

You could always watch this and try to recreate it at home Grin

The thing is, OP, its largely irrelevant whether they are nicer than a supermarket pizza or not. If your dd has asked for them for her birthday gathering then only Dominos will do.

Flowerlane · 15/06/2021 08:08

We love dominos here but refuse to pay £20 a pizza! We only ever get it when there is a good deal.

Pizza Hut always have their £5 medium pizza deal on so if we can’t get a good dominos deal we get that.

Pizza go go have hiked their prices up in line with dominos as well I have noticed over the last couple of years.

Is it bad I fancy pizza for breakfast nowGrin

partyatthepalace · 15/06/2021 08:09

No, and they are foul.

Why don’t you buy bases and ingredients and have them make their own. They’d probably enjoy that.

If they are 7 or 8 maybe. No idea how old OPs dd is - cant imagine it will wash if they are 16 Grin
HotChocolateLover · 15/06/2021 08:11

We only buy it when it’s £5.99 for any size (large obviously 🙄 😂) Otherwise a total rip off and we just head to Asda for a create your own pizza which are lovely and we pay an extra £1 for them to put in their pizza oven.

Jahebejrjr · 15/06/2021 08:12

They make pretty much everyone I know poorly after eating them.
They are a big corporation with big marketing budgets. The ridiculous prices and complex discount system they operate were dreamt up by corporate Americans to get you buying their pizzas. Why don’t they just apply an honest pricing system?
We have found a local pizza restaurant which delivers authentic pizzas. They are delicious and the price is far less than dominos.

Bagamoyo1 · 15/06/2021 08:13

Dominoes have managed to convince people (esp kids) that they’re the best. It must be some sort of genius subliminal marketing. But they are really very average, and certainly no better than supermarket pizza. I will only buy them for my kids on special occasions, because even with vouchers I resent paying restaurant money for a bit of flour, water, tomato and cheese.

Jahebejrjr · 15/06/2021 08:14

The discount system clearly works though, looking at this thread. It’s designed to make consumers believe they have been clever enough to pay less for their pizza which makes them happy when eating it. It’s pretty simple but so effective.

BarbaraofSeville · 15/06/2021 08:16

I agree that whether or not the pizza is nice is irrelevant and if she wants Domino's for her birthday, nothing else will do.

So you just look for a good deal, get the app to see what's available where you are. A lot (all?) of the shops are franchises so deals do vary and can often work out cheaper if you collect.

No need at all to pay anywhere near £20 for a large pizza and I wouldn't have thought you need a whole pizza per person anyway, I would have thought one large per two guests would be plenty

IdoIdoIdoOoh · 15/06/2021 08:17

We love dominos and as everyone eles has said - you only buy on a deal.
Even dominos themselves know this as when you add to basket on the app, if what you've added is equivalent to one of their deals they automatically change it to deal price, they call it deal wizard.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 15/06/2021 08:17

Our local Asian takeaways do better pizzas than Dominos, and for half the price.

HelpMeh · 15/06/2021 08:18

I'd rather a really nice supermarket pizza. If I could be bothered I'd get an Ooni and do my own. But lazy.

There's an Italian near me that does really nice thin pizzas. I much prefer these but the rest of the household disagrees. They also like Krispy Kreme though, so I think their taste buds are broken.

For a kids party Dominos will probably be a winner.

fluffythedragonslayer · 15/06/2021 08:19

As everyone says, with the deals it's not too bad. And of course you feel like you are getting a bargain because you get 50% off or whatever but actually that just makes it an OK price.
We can feed 5 of us for less than £30 with a deal at dominoes - cheaper than all getting McDonald's or KFC!!

SoupDragon · 15/06/2021 08:25

A tip from my DS was not to add the cookies until they are offered to you at a discount at checkout.

Iamnotminterested · 15/06/2021 08:39

OP, does your DC have a 'Uni Days' subscription? This will get more of when you order, I think 20%.

I too hate Dominos, but the teens I know seem to see it as the gold standard of pizza Confused.

Iamnotminterested · 15/06/2021 08:47

Off, not of.

billy1966 · 15/06/2021 08:52

We had it recently having not had it in years and it was absolutely awful.
Utterly tasteless.
I would never buy it again.
It was a 50% off deal or I wouldn't have even considered it.
Awful quality and my children agreed.
We bought some sides as well.
Dreadful.

NeedNewKnees · 15/06/2021 08:52

It’s like a car or double glazing - no one ever pays the ticket price!

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 15/06/2021 08:53

I like dominos and dislike papa johns so it’s obviously personal taste!

PIZZA50% will usually get you 50% off or order on a Tuesday (two for Tuesday).

malificent7 · 15/06/2021 08:55

Just spotted all the deals. .im now going to order some for dds birthday meal as she has requested them..will keep the teens happy and save lots of faff.

Papa Johns Envy

Bryonyshcmyony · 15/06/2021 08:57

Get vouchers online.

I think they are beyond disgusting and really weirdly sweet, but the kids like them occasionally

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/06/2021 08:58

I dont like Papa John's at all.

The nicest pizza round my way is a local Italian takeaway. But if my kid asked for Dominos as their birthday meal, they would get Dominos.

Shelddd · 15/06/2021 09:05

As mentioned you're not supposed to pay full price. They have huge discounts every day of the year. Typically 40 or 50% off plus they have combo deals like mentioned.

I think it's actually one of the cheaper delivery options out there.
