New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 18:22

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

YABU. We used to bbq in the middle of winter. I wonder what the neighbours thought then Grin

Insertcreativenamehere · 15/06/2021 18:14

I bet they’re South African

Moonshine90 · 15/06/2021 18:15

Yeah, you need to move remotely. People that aren’t hurting anyone, enjoying the summer the best they can in this god awful time, enjoying their garden whilst it’s daylight- absolutely yabu.

Supergirl1958 · 15/06/2021 18:15

@bbqalldaylong how is using ones garden as they see fit in the slightest anti-social!

Perhaps as others have said they are awaiting their cooker etc!

Sargass0 · 15/06/2021 18:20

@bbqalldaylong

They're bbqing again, and this time have moved the bbq to the front of the garden right up close to the houses Hmm
Sure they have
SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/06/2021 18:24

Ha.

Hi bbq people😂 what's on grill today and was the move thought if after reading this thread?😂

bishbashbosh99 · 15/06/2021 18:28

Lol. Maybe read your pathetic thread and decided to up the ante a little Grin

Wearethechampionsmyfriend · 15/06/2021 18:35

Oh well you'll be happy soon when the rain comes ! Hmm

osbertthesyrianhamster · 15/06/2021 18:40

@Wearethechampionsmyfriend

Oh well you'll be happy soon when the rain comes ! Hmm
Nah, they'll find something else to complain about.
SallyWD · 15/06/2021 18:40

We've had a long, miserable winter, a cold wet Spring. Let people enjoy the nice weather. The shouting sounds a bit annoying but give them time to settle in.

Ddot · 15/06/2021 18:45

Move

Bertiebiscuit · 15/06/2021 18:48

Bbqs are rubbish

Blueeyedgirl21 · 15/06/2021 18:51

In the us especially the south, ‘grilling’ or bbqing happens every day. People sort of live indoors-outdoors. I couldn’t get mad at people trying to be outside more. One of o neighbours has put their tv outside on the new covered decking area to watch the football. I think it’s genius. If you genuinely need it to be quiet and for there to be non intrusive smells in your garden for you to enjoy it, then you do need to live more remotely either in a rural area with no immediate neighbours or have a larger garden with nothing overlooking or overlapping . Lots of houses with potential for this exist. Most of my friends live semi rural and whilst they have neighbours, their land doesn’t really touch too much. I am not saying this in a harsh way, I genuinely think sometimes people have sensory issues, diagnosed or not, that mean they can’t cope with what is really very normal living conditions in close quarters. Smells, noise and all that is normal for suburban living, but sometimes people do find it very hard to cope with.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 15/06/2021 18:51

@Bertiebiscuit 😲😲😲

Why?!!

LondonStone · 15/06/2021 18:56

As a family who bbqs a lot in the summer, I don’t think you’re being unreasonable about the noise and the music etc. but I can’t agree with the cooking as we do it ourselves. Blush

DH is from a warm country and is very used to cooking outside in the summer. We have a gas bbq so doesn’t take ages to fire up and he’ll grill our chicken breast/fish/halloumi etc. whilst I do sides inside.

But we only cook for as long as it takes, close it up and eat. No music. If that upset our neighbours, I would think they were being unreasonable.

ScotchB · 15/06/2021 18:58

@Puffalicious

Of course yabu. It's up to them if they wish to BBQ every meal of every day. What do you seriously expect to say to them regarding this? They're within the confines of their own property. As MN always says: if you don't want neighbours go and live rurally.
Precisely! I did wonder if it was a British unwritten rule that one ought not to bbq their foods or a limit placed on when they can ... ? 🤷‍♀️
BeeDavis · 15/06/2021 19:00

It’s f*ing sunny outside!! Honestly neighbour threads on here do my head in, if they want to BBQ they bloody well can! I BBQ’d tonight AND Sunday... shoot me 🤪🤪

DanceItOut · 15/06/2021 19:01

As someone who lives in a flat and hasn’t had a garden to bbq in for the past 13 years YABU. You can bet when I finally do have a house with a garden I will be bbqing most meals for the first few weeks to make up for lost time.

the80sweregreat · 15/06/2021 19:02

If your in the UK the weather is changing soon ! Unless they like soggy burgers or whatever the bbq may be put away for a little while soon!

Sillawithans · 15/06/2021 19:07

Are you related to the poster moaning about kids on scooters playing outside?

Let them enjoy the weather, for Christ sake what harm are they actually doing.

Horst · 15/06/2021 19:09

We bbq Christmas dinner one year. Oven was fine just wanted to try something different. Often put a whole chicken in the smoker for a sunny Sunday lunch.

Slub · 15/06/2021 19:15

So glad I have nice neighbours!

They have BBQ

We have BBQ

Often it's a simultaneous BBQ and food is passed over the fence!!

Even during COVID Shock

MagicSummer · 15/06/2021 19:15

OP - for what it's worth, I completely agree with you! I hate barbecues and the awful smell they generate - acrid fumes, burnt meat, and the accompanying beer-fuelled shouting and arguing. The thing is, you are not allowed to say this on MN, where the barbecue reigns supreme along with screaming children, and more bloody children on trampolines. So I am afraid we are in the minority! Never mind, it's going to rain on Thursday for the rest of the week.

Nayday · 15/06/2021 19:17

For anyone that lives in the UK, this is a very short term problem 🤣. It was freezing just last month - had our heating on in May - I'll take the BBQ smell any day!
The anti-BBQ-ers do rather conjure up a certain image in my head of zoflora clutching prim and proper people, who spend their evenings listening for a jot of noise in the garden after 6.31pm, washing left on lines and other misdemeanors. They love words like acrid, disgusting and anti-social and there's definitely pearl clutching.
Special mention to the confusion in the middle of this thread when OP was called racist for answering a question.about possible culture differences/origin country of neighbors by poster with Persian husband who likes to BBQ 😅

Blueeyedgirl21 · 15/06/2021 19:17

@MagicSummer your username is a bit ironic 😂
