To buy a second pair of my 'happy shoes'

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 11/06/2021 11:15

I bought a pair of shoes a few weeks ago and I just love them. WIBU to buy a second pair so that when these inevitably break I have a backup? They weren't expensive so that isn't an issue

I still lament not buying 2 pairs of a gold Tesco sandal about 4 years ago, nothing has come close

Branleuse · 11/06/2021 13:13

link to the happy shoes pls

Alonelonelyloner · 11/06/2021 13:14

I fell in love with a pair of blue suede boots by Faith about 20 years ago and I have been trying to get something similar ever since. Buy 3 pairs!!! Don't take the risk!

moirarosebabay · 11/06/2021 13:15

I'd buy 2 extra pairs at least.

winched · 11/06/2021 13:16

I do this all the time especially with very seasonal things like boots and sandals. You never know if they'll bring them back next year and it's heartbreaking to throw away the happy ones and settle for less.

BikeRunSki · 11/06/2021 13:16

This is exactly the kind of thing I would do.

withiceplease · 11/06/2021 13:16

YABU not showing shoes!

Pedalpushers · 11/06/2021 13:23

I wish I'd done this with my favourite boots! I was so gutted when they eventually wore out and I can find similar ones but NOT THE SAME.

esterwin · 11/06/2021 13:25

@Pedalpushers I had the same experience at 20 years old. Beautiful leather boots that were also comfortable. I have seen similar since but none quite as good. That is why I now buy multiple pairs if I absolutely love some shoes or boots.

I always wish I'd done this when something I love gives up. Can you also get them in a different colour?
Babyroobs · 11/06/2021 13:33

I have some clarks boots that are the most comfy boots I've ever had so I just keep trying to find identical pairs new on EBAY so that I always have a pair ready for when the current pair become unwearable. I am on about my 5th pair now !

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 11/06/2021 13:34

I have an ebay email alert every time a new pair of my favourite boots gets listed, because the company no longer make them any more.

I have 7 pairs of the same boots now. Laugh all you like, but I'm the one with those boots.

Seriously, ebay listing alerts are BRILLIANT for things you have loved & lost.

ILoveAnOwl · 11/06/2021 13:34

I'm on pair 3 of my amazing flip flops. I'm considering stockpiling them in case they ever stop making them...

MotherOfCrocodiles · 11/06/2021 13:34

I bought six pairs of my favourite shoes in the sale as they were being discontinued. No regrets.

jay55 · 11/06/2021 13:37

It's a good idea.

As long as you don't turn into my great aunt, we found dozens of her favourite style of slippers, unworn, in the bag, when we cleared out her house.

LettyLoman · 11/06/2021 13:40

I bought a back up pair of my trainers - I wish I'd bought 6!

Crockof · 11/06/2021 13:42

This is outing but I bought 10 pairs of identical boots from Clarks in 1999, I still have one pair left unworn and still love them. About two years ago Clarks produced a new boot I liked so I've bought 10 of them as well.

TeaAndStrumpets · 11/06/2021 13:44

Yes, I found some lovely comfy moccasins and have bought other colours in the same style. I also found the perfect bra over ten years ago and stocked up, even buying a couple from France. It's discontinued now so I'm glad I did.

mistermagpie · 11/06/2021 13:45

If you can afford them, buy them. So many times I wish I had done this and have resorted to eBay!

I have lots of pairs of Birkenstock's in different colours. I wear them all, as opposed to saving some for when the current pair wear out, but it's basically the same thing. Don't judge my shoe choice btw, I've got bunions and care about comfort more than style!

Ijustlikedthename · 11/06/2021 13:45

I do this with shoes!

riotlady · 11/06/2021 13:47

Do it, also share the shoes!

I once found the perfect summer sandal and bout all 8 pairs the shop had in my size over the following few weeks.

They are long gone now but I still miss them and have never found any half as good. I miss Bally.

fashionablefennel · 11/06/2021 13:50

I do that all the time, sometimes in the same colour, sometimes in different colour.

Better having stock of shoes you WEAR than ones that stay untouched.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 11/06/2021 13:52

Do it. I do it all the time.

While you're at it ( drumroll for piece of Hope wisdom coming up....)

Find yourself a good fish slice that sits well in your hand and buy enough to last you a lifetime. Never have the faff of having to get used to a new one.

You're welcome. 😁

NoProblem123 · 11/06/2021 13:53

Not if you’re 5 - they won’t fit for long.
