The law just cannot be allowed to tell people what to think.

Hurrah for Maya!

The DM has reported on the case.

notthenever · 10/06/2021 14:48

@RedDogsBeg

The Judge in the original case was so obviously captured by the TRA ideology it was excruciating. Justice is blind in order to ensure fair, impartial and objective judgement, the Judge in the original case threw those tenets out of the window.
Well they've all had bloody Stonewall training, haven't they!

More. Good read and the summing up good

jellybeansforbreakfast · 10/06/2021 14:50

I love the completely sex free headline - Tax Expert!! Well done the DM - and who knew that would ever be a sentence being typed here?

OhWhyNot · 10/06/2021 14:51

Fantastic news

This isn’t really about common sense it’s about not ignoring biological fact

Let’s hope this is just the start

Version4needsabitofwork · 10/06/2021 14:52

So happy about this judgement. To celebrate, I fired off an email to the chair of our city's schools committee to demand they take action against sexual harrassment in schools, whilst pointing out that sex is a protected characteristic. Sex, not gender is protected and now I know, whatever they throw at me, it's perfectly okay to say so. Hopefully, many more of us will be emboldened to say so. Thank you Maya!

JuneJustRains · 10/06/2021 15:00

we'll be having another papal schism/reformation

I read that as a Paypal schism.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 10/06/2021 15:01

@HermioneWeasley

I note Fidget has not been back to give us their objective and non circular definition of “women”
I do apologise for having an important hospital appointment. Next time I'll tell my consultant I can't see them cos I need to argue with strangers on the Internet about the definition of a woman.

I'm in a bit of a fuzz at the moment (you'll have to forgive me, I had bad news) but if you look on sites such as stonewall they'll be able to give you some very helpful information.

CandyLeBonBon · 10/06/2021 15:02
**@CandyLeBonBon

I THINK we're saying the same thing?
Yes, I was running with your analogy to try and illustrate the absurdity of the "TWAW - no debate" position.
Phew! Thought so - was just checking I hadn't misinterpreted!

JuneJustRains · 10/06/2021 15:03

Hope you’re ok, LadyFidget

littlbrowndog · 10/06/2021 15:03

A bit from old square lawyers firm on summing up below

the effect of the EAT’s judgment is that the protections against discrimination and harassment conferred by the Equality Act 2010 will apply both to gender critical beliefs and to other protected characteristics...
...
Consequently, gratuitous use of language in the workplace that someone in either group might reasonably find offensive could be unlawful harassment – for example, calling someone with gender critical beliefs a ‘terf’ or a ‘bigot’
...
respectful discussion or debate is unlikely to be unlawful and those holding opposing beliefs must tolerate each other, even if they find each other’s beliefs offensive
...
More generally, the EAT’s judgment in this case strongly emphasises the broad scope of beliefs that are protected by EqA10, s10 and the narrowness of the enquiry in which Tribunals should engage. Six-day inquisitions into a person’s beliefs of the kind that occurred in this case should be a thing of the past.

LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag · 10/06/2021 15:06

@Namechangedlady

Waiting patiently for *@LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag* to provide the definition of a woman without the use of 'enjoys picking up a hoover' or 'likes pink'.
Ha, if that's the definition of a woman then my husband is the only woman in this house (he's not btw). Anyway, as I said I had some bad news so I need to go and have a nap and a cry. I'll be back later.
DancesWithTortoises · 10/06/2021 15:06

but if you look on sites such as stonewall they'll be able to give you some very helpful information.

Stonewall hasn't been helpful to women for some time, according to my lesbian sisters.

@JuneJustRains

Hope you’re ok, LadyFidget
Thank you Smile . Time will tell and in the meantime I have all sorts of treatment, medications with scary names and my husband (and disagreeing with people on the internet Wink)
Herja · 10/06/2021 15:12

Stonewall have also been found to (seemingly wilfully) misrepresent the law. Stonewall are (now. Not always) untrustworthy bullshitters.

No one should ever read anything posted by Stonewall looking for a trustworthy answer these days. Apparently not even their paying clients.

Cattenberg · 10/06/2021 15:14

I’m sorry that you had bad news, Lady Fidget. I hope you’re going to be OK Flowers

VestaTilley · 10/06/2021 15:15

YANBU. It’s bloody brilliant news and I’m ecstatic!

Well done Maya! And a huge thanks to her brilliant legal team as well.

Cattenberg · 10/06/2021 15:15

Cross-posted. Yes, arguing with strangers on the internet is a great distraction!

Greencoatblue · 10/06/2021 15:16

LadyFidget refer to stonewall.......no thanks, unless that's a different stonewall than the one who has been giving the incorrect advice about the EA. Sorry you've had bad news, been there done that, when you get time your definition of a woman would be most interesting.

NewYearNewTwatName · 10/06/2021 15:18

Stonewall?

The stonewall that has been found to have made up it's own laws, misrepresented uk law and sold it to companies all over the place as how they should be inclusive within the 'stonewall' law, but sold as UK law?

have you not seen the mass exodus of companies, councils, government bodies all scrambling to distance themselves from Stonewall as the shit is about to hit the fan?

Stonewall? of which one of its founders left in disgust and denounced the behaviour and direction it had taken?

RadandMad · 10/06/2021 15:18

@peadarm

this whole gender ideology has revealed the deep, deep level of cultural misogyny that exists across the world

In western countries the whole TERF thing - and the tsunami of abuse directed at women - has normalised misogyny.

And the condemnation of women while studiously ignoring the abuse, on the part of mainstream politicians has legitimised it and served to provide a permissive environment in which misogynistic abuse and crime flourishes.

It so has. It's been one of the most disheartening realisations of my life.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/06/2021 15:19

@notthenever

I had tears in my eyes reading about the sexual harassment of girls and the normalisation of porn. I cannot imagine how hard it must be for them on a daily basis in schools. Are we in addition to that going to add “if you don’t change with this penis person in your class who claims that they are a girl then you are bigots?

I completely agree. Its a form of sexual abuse to force girls, or women, to undress in front of someone who they perceive to be male because they have a male body. its a form of social shaming to tell the girl she has to address elsewhere if she is unhappy to do this.

I hope there is a tsunami of lawsuits.

I'm in a bit of a fuzz at the moment (you'll have to forgive me, I had bad news) but if you look on sites such as stonewall they'll be able to give you some very helpful information

While I sympathise with your personal distress Fidget, SW have never been able to provide a definition of "woman" which doesn't disappear up its own bum.

lakesummer · 10/06/2021 15:24

Stonewall? of which one of its founders left in disgust and denounced the behaviour and direction it had taken?

Am I right in thinking that two of its founders have now openly criticized its current direction and attitudes to women?

lakesummer · 10/06/2021 15:25

I am very sorry to hear you are poorly fidget 💐

notthenever · 10/06/2021 15:30

It so has. It's been one of the most disheartening realisations of my life

I agree. I have found it genuinely distressing.
