The law just cannot be allowed to tell people what to think.

Hurrah for Maya!

Maya, you are a W O M A N .

So am I.

And thanks to you it is not wrong to say it again.

I am not responsible for other people’s view of themselves and their bodies and I respect their rights to live their life , but us adult human females now know that legally who we are is who we are and other people can’t take that away from us in words or deeds, and cannot become us if they were not us to start with.

Angliski · 10/06/2021 13:18

@LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag what I don’t understand is why being pro-women is transphobic. That’s what scares me about the dogma. I have no interest in Trans issues and no agenda for or against. My view is let’s all just be who we are. What I have a MASSIVE issue with, is the eradication of WOMEN as a legitimate identity. I’m a woman. I have no interest in being erased- that’s not transphobic.

Slythermum · 10/06/2021 13:18

This is a huge deal that many people didn't even know was happening. It's terrible that women have been punished for talking common sense. We are allowed to have beliefs that don't conform to the dictates of the jiggerywokery that has now captured all of our institutions. It has been about misogyny dressed up as equality. People threatening J K Rowling with images of baseball bats, rape and death threats over supporting Maya stating that sex is real! How is that ok in anyone's imagination?

Well done Maya. For standing up for all of us and this will have longer term influence on what is happening to our children in schools who have been under a spell where they have been putting safeguarding at risk.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/06/2021 13:19

6 percent think that a believe in biology shouldn't be accepted in law?

It's just knee jerk, unthinking transactivism. They haven't even considered what it means.

pombear · 10/06/2021 13:19

For those on AIBU who are hearing about Maya for the first time - here's a link to the not-for-profit organisation she's since co-founded to bring clarity back to policy, law and language, and undo the damage caused by the culture of “no debate” about sex and gender.

Today the EAT has upheld the right to hold a belief that material reality is material reality. I am immensely relieved to hear this, and so grateful to Maya for putting so much of herself on the line to get to this point. Biological sex is real, immutable, and matters in a number of contexts. Where it matters, women have protected rights and we will continue to uphold them for the safety, privacy and dignity of all adult human females.

peadarm · 10/06/2021 13:19

@CandyLeBonBon

Just as I don't believe that the wafer and wine in the catholic faith are ACTUALLY the body and blood of Christ (nor do I believe in God at all in fact) But I recognise your right to do so.
A devout Catholic could (but wouldn't) retort that the eucharist is the body of Christ, and denying the reality of a belief that is so deeply intrinsic to who they are, causes deep hurt, amounts to bigotry, and should be banned.

MargotHeggerty · 10/06/2021 13:22

I have removed myself from twitter due to the ongoing fuckwittary but has there been any comment from the other side

Well done Maya very proud day and if in honest im very relieved

Sirzy · 10/06/2021 13:22

Hopefully this is the start of a push back to protect women’s rights

Slythermum · 10/06/2021 13:26

@augustusglupe

Well done Maya!! Why was this not bigger news!? It's the first time I've heard this. Anyway, great news..onwards!!
It's not been bigger news because the BBC, Guardian and Independent haven't been covering it as they don't care about women unless it is virtue signalling. I have never been so betrayed by the left-wing media as in the last three years.
Helleofabore · 10/06/2021 13:26

I too am waiting for a non-circular definition of woman by any poster who continues to push the agenda that people discussing the conflicts in rights between women and other groups is transphobic.

NCforsafety · 10/06/2021 13:26
@LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag you are allowed to believe that transwomen are women. Others now are also allowed to say that whilst they respect a person's right to present in a way that makes them feel must comfortable in their own skin, that does not mean they believe that by so presenting, it makes them women as one who is born biologically as a woman.

Just as I don't believe that the wafer and wine in the catholic faith are ACTUALLY the body and blood of Christ (nor do I believe in God at all in fact) But I recognise your right to do so.

Stating material reality that sex is real, binary and matters is not transphobic but if you choose to believe that Transwomen are women, that is your right. There are also people who believe the earth is flat. I also disagree but recognise that they are allowed to believe that.

Does that help?
This.

And hoorah for Maya - some sanity today at least :)

Thank you Maya Smile

IntoAir · 10/06/2021 13:29

It’s a relief but how deep is the instructional capture that a woman has to go to court to defend her belief in biology.

Yes and that it’s cost her (and the people who’ve supported her through fund raising) thousands of pounds in costs.

Simply for holding scientifically factual views.

Palladin · 10/06/2021 13:30

Excellent news, but it is so unfair that it had to come to this trial.

purpleboy · 10/06/2021 13:31

Congratulations Maya! Fingers crossed for the next tribunal.

Whatwouldscullydo · 10/06/2021 13:32

It's just knee jerk, unthinking transactivism. They haven't even considered what it means

Never sign anything you didn't read....

This whole " feminists say it so it must be wrong " thing has gotten very tired..

Notyours · 10/06/2021 13:35

@AllDoneIn

Imagine that a woman needed the law to intervene to protect her for saying that A PERSON CANNOT CHANGE THEIR BIOLOGICAL SEX. Really think about that. A woman lost her job for stating BIOLOGICAL REALITY.
This.

I'm relieved but I can't be happy that this whole gender ideology has revealed the deep, deep level of cultural misogyny that exists across the world. I really think the only reason the extreme gender ideology (transwomen are literally women and ANY man can say he is and must be treated exactly as a woman in all circumstances) has taken hold to such an extent such a grip is because it 'only' adversely affects women, and no-one really gives a crap about that.

Johnbowlby · 10/06/2021 13:39

Thank you Maya!

RaspberryCoulis · 10/06/2021 13:41

So chuffed to read this. Well done Maya.

Namechangedlady · 10/06/2021 13:45

Waiting patiently for @LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag to provide the definition of a woman without the use of 'enjoys picking up a hoover' or 'likes pink'.

littlbrowndog · 10/06/2021 13:47

Good read from mayas lawyer

CandyLeBonBon · 10/06/2021 13:58

But trans women aren't acting at being women they are women.

@LadyFidgetAndHerHandbag what is a woman then?

1Endeavour2 · 10/06/2021 13:59

Wonderful. SURPRISED. BBC has made an art form of of ignoring women and girls issues and safety. NOW - given Ofsted says over 70 per cent of girls are sexually harassed and threatened at school - we needed to work to ensure that girls in all schools always have access to single sex toilets. Many schools have the prevailing madness of having mixed sex toilets. We all know where a lot of the bullying goes on. It is not girls responsibility to civilize males!!
