To want a black and rose gold pram for our baby boy

I'm 6 months pregnant and we've decided on getting the Egg2 travel system for our baby boy. I've fallen in love with the black diamond and rose gold edition:

www.johnlewis.com/egg2-special-edition-stroller-luxury-travel-system-bundle-diamond-black/p5399692

I know it's on the girlier side but I think it's absolutely stunning and don't see what the big deal is about not getting such a pram for a baby boy. It's not like I've chosen a pink pram! Dh is completely against it but I know ultimately he'll succumb to my charms 😅 He is worried about what everyone else will think and say though. Family that I have shown think it's mad to get this pram for a boy due to the rose gold and glittery fabric. Is it really that mad??

My 2nd choice and Dh's 1st choice of colour is the Jurassic grey:

I know rose gold is not to everyone's taste but I personally love it and the pram make me swoon! It's on the pricier side so I don't want us to make the wrong decision.

I wouldn’t buy it for a boy, I’m sure it would mean that he’ll turn out gay 😜😜😜

The fact that your dh seems to think that boys have to have proms in certain colours is showing you what a complete knob he is. In fact, anyone who thinks it’s not suitable for a boy is also a complete knob. Sexist stereotypes are so damaging, for boys and girls...

Soontobe60 · 09/06/2021 11:24

Prams, not proms 🤣

Taybz · 09/06/2021 11:24

@User52739

Your baby will not care. He doesn’t understand colours or gender stereotypes Smile and the design of the pram is more for you than him! I have a black and rose gold pram for my son and it’s lovely.
Which one do you have? What do people say? Everyone I've shown it to says rose gold is not appropriate for a baby boy. I think it's ridiculous, it's just a colour!

Don't know if any pics were posted, so had to go off and google it. It is gorgeous.

When my Dd was born we were really skint so my DSis lent me her pram. It was cream with a brown hood. Weather was unbelievably hot that year so I had a red parasol, baby was in a hand made pink dress with matching booties and a little white mop cap. People still asked if she was a boy or girl though. Idiots will always ask.
Honestly go with what you like. Other people's opinions are not important.

@MrsMaizel

Wow prams are so expensive these days !
You can buy a a lovely car for that price Grin that was my husbands defence when I wanted the Mamas and Papas Ocarro travel set which was around £1,500 later we settled for a yo-yo. It gets thrown around, puked on, scratched etc and still looks brand new after 2 years of heavy use with countless plane journeys, beach holidays and generally being thrown around.

@Peach01

Are people really assuming OP can't buy the pram, save for her child's future and live comfortably? She hasn't asked for financial guidance or divulged she's in that position.
THIS. Thank you! 😄

I don’t think that pram looks “girly” at all? In fact I’d assume more likely to be a boy.

Yes, he's more rigid with colour gender stereotypes (for kids only) but I can definitely let that slide considering he's an amazing Dh and I reckon will be a top-notch dad. 🙃

Does his “rigid” stereotyping extend to things like football? Would he be happy if your son wanted to be a ballet dancer? Do they extend to housework and childcare- ie you do the majority?

Babyboomtastic · 09/06/2021 11:27

Everyone I've shown it to says rose gold is not appropriate for a baby boy

Maybe it's that actually they just don't like it.

There, I've said it.

Port1aCastis · 09/06/2021 11:28

Why not buy a more reasonably priced pram and put the rest of the pram fund in a savings account for your child, a baby won't know how much you paid for it's pram and won't give a shit ( believe me there'll be plenty of it) whereas he/ she will appreciate monies saved for them

diddlediddledump · 09/06/2021 11:29

As whether it's for a boy or girl, my son recently got loads of blue, green and grey bloody dinosaur outfits (I hate dinosaurs) from friends and family for his second birthday and still people think his a girl despite him having a a boys hair cut Grin

Scrambledcustard · 09/06/2021 11:29

I dont think eggs weather well at all. I was between an egg an a silver cross surfer for dd3 but finally chose the silver cross. I'm glad I did because I then started to notice 1 year off babies in battered eggs.

We had a stokee for DD2. Jesus that pram was hard wearing! It was actually the Optimus Prime of prams Grin you could use the thing as a blood high chair when eating out! I would have bought one again but it was a PITA to get in the the boot.

Exactly

BelleBlueBell · 09/06/2021 11:33

@sowhatsnext

TBH no one else cares what pram you have, well not in my circle of friends anyway Hmm

This appears to be more of a humble brag situ than anything else IMO

Apparently there are people for whom it is very much a thing to judge and judged for.

Personally I think it's crazy and am with you in the who the hell could be bothered with such things as long as it gets the child where you want to go, doesn't weigh a ton and can be folded up easily for the car

As the OP says the pram makes her swoon (in the style of a Victoria laydeee I assume) she is most definitely in another camp Grin

I sort of felt this but didn't dare say it!
ScottishNewbie · 09/06/2021 11:34

Your son doesn't give a flying shit what his future pram is going to look like.
If it will put a smile on your face and make you happy as you go about your day, then 100% go for it.

ThatOtherPoster · 09/06/2021 11:35

I’d never considered a orange to be a “gendered” item. Think of those old-fashioned peaks everyone used in the 40s and 50s - they were usually dark blue, whether they were carrying boys or girls.

I love rose hold and black … But honestly, prams get battered. Thrown in and out of the car boot, pushed through woods and over fields, hurled into the cargo hold of planes… I wouldn’t want a pram (especially such a spendy one) where I’d notice and feel sad about every splash, dent and chip.

I had the cheapest one Mothercare sold 😆 It was £99 and lasted well through both my babies. And I didn’t care how badly treated it was.

chaosrabbitland · 09/06/2021 11:36

i prefer the black and pink myself , but then black is one of my fav colours and i wear it a lot , the grey just looks too well grey for me , it reminds me of crap cold wet weather .

ThatOtherPoster · 09/06/2021 11:37

Omg! 🤦🏻‍♀️

pram not orange, prams not peaks, gold not hold.

I’m going for a lie down.

I did think the OP was ‘flexing’ a bit when I saw how much it cost. But I’m also envious because I used to love buying prams and now don’t need them anymore all mine are older Sad
ThatOtherPoster · 09/06/2021 11:37

They grey version looks fugly in that picture. Don’t buy that. I’d be treating that one badly on purpose.

Ok so I own a ‘country green’ version of the egg travel system and have had it for a year now, DS1 is 1 next week and we’re due DS2 in September.

ITS HEAVY AS FUCK. And down right cumbersome.

I’m not a tiny weak human that has never picked up a set of weights before either, but it’s a ‘lug’ to get it in and out of the boot especially those first few weeks pp where my insides felt like they were going to fall out. So much so we try and avoid using it now. Both me and DP. He wants to buy a cheap little umbrella fold buggy thing for out and about, he has a good point but I am holding out because it was soooooo expensive.

It is however, very very strong, we did 5k+ every other day for about 8 months in it on forestry roads/country paths/walking down to town and it was absolutely cracking. Nothing phases it.

The carry cot is a great ‘Moses basket’ for downstairs and it’s easy to take off and walk into garden/upstairs of whatever if DS was sleeping and we wanted to go outside. Even nights away he slept in there so it saved on a travel cot too. It’s super slick to push around and everyone who’s had a go comments on how nice it is.

I’ll be buying the tandem adaptors and ride on board for when DS2 arrives, there’ll be 15m between them so no doubt they’ll both need to be in the pram at the same time.

Deffo worth the money; but, don’t buy it if you live in a flat/have a tiny house/don’t want to be lugging a big heavy thing around.

Also, nobody gives a crap about the colour but you.

Sirzy · 09/06/2021 11:38

I do wonder if sometimes parents are so keen to show that they don’t care about gender stereotypes that they take things too far the other way to show it. Almost like they are making some sort of point about it

sweetgingercat · 09/06/2021 11:39

Prams have gone up in the last ten years!

I had a boy who went round in a pram of blue roses because there was a deal on it. He didn't seem to notice it and it didn't stop my other half taking him out in it either.

Get it and don't worry... He'll be sick on it soon enough!
