Ear-piercing 2 - Petition if you decided Rumpel WNBU

Hello everyone!

The thread to debate the pros and cons of piercing babies' and children's ears still exists, and it's here.

But, if you've thought about it and have decided that you agree with the OP, you can sign two petitions, conveniently righthere.

Click on the link, then enter 'ear piercing' into the search box. That will bring up two petitions. One is to ban the procedure on all children under 10, the other is about banning it for under-2s.

If you sign the under-10s one, please also sign the Under-2s one!

it all only takes a minute! I have the attention span of a gnat on amphetamines, and if I can do it, so can you!

OK, done, I think ear piercing for little kids is gross.

onebatmother · 19/11/2007 21:35

2shoes · 20/11/2007 15:19

me thinks you have to much time on your hands

Katiekin · 20/11/2007 15:25

Someone got prosecuted for piercing the ear of their dog, bet no-one has been for doing their child!!

2shoes · 20/11/2007 15:26

bit of a diference. most people would take there child to get it done properly.

mishymoo · 20/11/2007 15:45

Done

EffiePerine · 20/11/2007 15:48

THe link doesn't work for me - just takes me back to the chat thread

mishymoo · 20/11/2007 15:51

Effie - page down a bit and you will find it. I couldn't see it at first either.

mishymoo · 20/11/2007 15:53

Found it - thanks

How do you pierce the ears of a 6mo baby (eg) "properly", 2shoes?

Can they give consent? Do they understand what's going to happen to them? Do they want their ears pierced? There are questions about the gun that's used being appropriate for anybody, let alone babies.

sugar34plum · 20/11/2007 16:15

cant get on link. I do agree with the signing of the uners 2's but not the under tens. I have 3 dds and although youngest is 17 months other 2 are 9 and 11 and it was their decision to whether they pierced or not. my eldest has hers done but my middle one didnt want hers done.

Saying that eledst now wants her tummy done but have said no as i think its kind of trampish. And she i s way too young!

2shoes · 20/11/2007 17:01

hunker I don't like the idea of babies having their ears pierced. unless it is for cultural reasons. just think there are more important things to sign petitions about

hunkermunker · 20/11/2007 17:05

Well, yes and no, really 2shoes.

Yes in that of course there are more important things to sign petitions about.

And no in that if we only did things we thought were Really Important, that would be dull.

I, for instance, can sign petitions about babies having their ears pierced, eat mince pies AND book a holiday for next year at the same time as giving cuddles, medicine and sips of water to a poorly DS1 AND writing my Christmas card list AND updating my blog.

It would be dull (and it would fret DS1) if I only cuddled him and stared at him the whole time, because he's the most important thing on that list. I suspect he would learn to say "bugger off" if I did that

LadyVictoriaOfCakeThe2nd · 20/11/2007 17:13

have signed.

this is actually something ifeel is important (and i am an piercing addict myself). there are laws about tattooing under the 18year old mark, so i think piercing should also have similar regulations.

2shoes · 20/11/2007 17:15

fair point Hunker.
LadyVictoriaOfCakeThe2nd if you put a restriction of 18 on it though kids will just do it themselves though

LadyVictoriaOfCakeThe2nd · 20/11/2007 17:17

maybe not as high as 18 for peircing but i certainly think that peircing babies is not on. personally i dont like piercings on the under 10's, but have to accept that some kids want it done earlier. fortunatly mine dont, yet.

there are no laws that i am aware on ear piercings.

2shoes · 20/11/2007 17:23

well i think 11 would be good myself. I think then they are old enough to get it done and look after the cleaning and stuff.
ds had his done when he was bout 11(didn't last long)

mummyofgirls · 20/11/2007 20:59

Thanks mishy!

LuckyUnderpants · 20/11/2007 21:09
