Ear-piercing 2 - Petition if you decided Rumpel WNBU

Hello everyone!

The thread to debate the pros and cons of piercing babies' and children's ears still exists, and it's here.

But, if you've thought about it and have decided that you agree with the OP, you can sign two petitions, conveniently righthere.

Click on the link, then enter 'ear piercing' into the search box. That will bring up two petitions. One is to ban the procedure on all children under 10, the other is about banning it for under-2s.

If you sign the under-10s one, please also sign the Under-2s one!

it all only takes a minute! I have the attention span of a gnat on amphetamines, and if I can do it, so can you!

Hi, I've signed.... Can't stand seeing little babies with big gold hoops hanging out of their ears in their pram.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2007 22:01

Pierced ears on small children is foul IMO.

mummyofgirls · 22/11/2007 08:53

oh that sounds very sensible, alittleone2, esp the bald patches caused by extensions.

I'm fine with piercing. I am a believer in letting young people express their personalities. However I really hate seeing babies and young children having piercings forced upon them. I've signed both petitions.

seeker · 24/11/2007 06:12

When does a "child" become a "young person"?

mummyofgirls · 24/11/2007 11:33

We have 70 signatures on the under 10's petition and 182 on the under 2's. If you are opposed to ear piercing in the under 10's please sign both petitions, so that if the under 10's in unsuccessful, your signature will still count on the under 2's. Please send the link to your friends, sisters and mums who are also opposed. I don't believe the lack of signatures reflects the lack of strong feeling about this subject, but that people don't know about the petitions, so please spread the word! Thanks!

I work for my local council and for us a 'young person' is 15 - 25.

I've signed the Under 2 petition. When my daughter had her ears pierced many years ago (she was 7), the jeweller told me it was illegal to pierce any child under the age of 6. Is that wrong information then?

"I have signed for 2 year olds but not for 10, my elder dd was 5 when she decided to have hers done, her 3 year old sister watched and secided she wanted to have hers done, even though she saw it hurt so I said yes. My younger dd has never had any problems where as my elder dd is always getting goopy ears, and she is the sensible ones. Under twos can not decide for them selves."

I never usually get involved in this often hotly debated topic, but I felt I had to comment on choccieholic's post. "Under 2s can not decide for themselves", but 3 and 5 year olds can....wtf????

My 5 year old DS has decided he wants a tattoo...it doesn't mean he's going to get one.

These are children fgs.

Have signed both!

mummyofgirls · 29/11/2007 07:11

33kjs - I'm not aware of that law and Claire's Accessories do not have any suchruling. I may be naive to assume that such a big company would likely be law abiding?!

This petition has been on for a week and bumped numerous times and yet it still only has 70 odd signatures. Maybe YABU? Just a thought.
