AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

To be pissed off that even though every other thread in AIBU has a relevant topic it could go in, it only seems to be feminism-related threads that get moved?

Looking at the first page of AIBU alone, I can see several threads that would more appropriately be posted in Relationships, Coronavirus, Education, Chat, Politics, etc etc.

People post all sorts of irrelevant non-AIBU shitin AIBU for traffic. Everyone knows this.

And yet it only seems to be feminism-related threads that attract a load of posters going “UGH there’s a feminism topic for this you know” and eventually the threads get put back in their place, just like those pesky feminists moved to the feminism topic, where only people who seek out feminism-based threads will see them.

Why is this? Why is it ok for people to post in AIBU about covid vaccines, or employment issues, or whether you live within walking distance of your kids school, but not to bring attention to current issues facing women that many may not be aware of?

I really don't understand the nitpickers who moan about it. Just scroll past.

I have an image of them lurking ready to report. A bit like the women knitting at the guillotine. Frothing at the mouth.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 07/06/2021 13:10

Why not just not read the thread then? Or hide it?

Why does it have to be moved?

This from someone who's whinging that she reported some COVID threads and they weren't moved?

Make your mind up.

Translation: " I want to post transphobic shite so that people who would rather avoid it have it pushed at them, and call it feminism to get a free pass"

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 13:22

Translation: "I want to post feminist issues to leverage the AIBU audience, like everyone else."

@toconclude fixed it for you

HumunaHey · 07/06/2021 13:26

Haven't read the full thread but yes, there are a lot of miscellaneous posts on AIBU. However, they are mostly just irritating because they are not related to AIBU in any way.

The thread you're referring to is different because it's a subject matter people actively try to avoid, hence hiding the feminism thread. Purposely posting it on AIBU with it's provocative title is poor form and shoving something down people's throats.

Every women is not a feminist and every feminist isn't the special kind of MN feminist.

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 13:29

@Pumperthepumper

with the rather obvious objective of getting it deleted or moved

Why would I care if it’s deleted or moved? I’ll happily have a conversation about issues affecting women, I’ll happily have a conversation about trans issues affecting women. I’ll happily have a conversation about mumsnet and why they move some threads and not others - I don’t know the answer but I suspect it’s something around ‘enough people reported it was clogging up the active AIBU threads’ or whatever.

I’m sure if you start a thread on actual issues affecting women it’ll stay put.

In that case, hopefully you'll happily get deleted and banned for breaking Talk guidelines rather than the thread going pfft.

Except OP hasn't referred to a thread. It's you trying to make it a TAAT so it gets deleted.
Potteringshed · 07/06/2021 13:37

Except OP hasn't referred to a thread. It's you trying to make it a TAAT so it gets deleted.

Oh come on! That's super disingenuous! This thread was blatantly a complaint about the "please read the Daily Mail" thread yesterday that got moved to FWR.

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 13:39

@Potteringshed no, it isn't Confused

She hasn't referred to that thread at all. It's you and others making it a TAAT.

Do you really not see that you're breaking Talk guidelines and deserve to be deleted?

HumunaHey · 07/06/2021 13:46

@stackemhigh I really don't care whether the thread gets deleted or not. I answered the question with my honest opinion. Beyond being a TAAT, there's a running theme on the feminism board and people try to avoid it for a reason.

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 13:48

But I am saying that it's YOU should be deleted, for trying to make it a TAAT.

ilovesooty · 07/06/2021 13:55

@AngeloMysterioso

3 coronavirus threads on first page of AIBU when I looked just now, just from the titles. Could be more.

Exactly.

There’s a thread about shingles that belongs in General Health.

A thread about wanting children close together that belongs in Family Planning.

Several crappy DH threads that belong in Relationships.

A thread about University rankings that belongs in Education.

Etc etc ad infinitum.

None of them have been moved though... weird.

Some of them might be of general interest to people though I'm inclined to agree that Coronavirus threads should be in the Coronavirus topic. By the same token I think that if there's a Feminism topic people can put those threads there.

This sounds a bit as though you want people to have to be aware of threads on feminist issues whether or not you want to visit the Feminism forum.

And yes, it seems like a TAAT. Perhaps Site Stuff might be somewhere to raise it?

HumunaHey · 07/06/2021 14:00

@stackemhigh Get a grip. Report my post if you feel so passionate about it. I'm not going to argue with you beyond this. I don't care ✌

Legomania · 07/06/2021 14:02

It's the arrogance that gets me: "you can hide FWR if you want, but you can't avoid our threads"
I have FWR hidden for a reason. Whether you, op believe those reasons are valid or not.

Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 14:09

In that case, hopefully you'll happily get deleted and banned for breaking Talk guidelines rather than the thread going pfft.

Still here with all my logic @stackemhigh

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 14:11

No, I haven’t reported you Humana and Pumper because that would be contributing to getting the thread deleted, which is what you clearly want.

SoupDragon · 07/06/2021 14:13

I couldn’t care less if the thread is deleted or stays right where it is. It’s hardly setting the place on fire.

Well it’s the arrogance of posters like Humuna and Pumper who should be getting to you. Their insistence that they will break Talk guidelines themselves but get annoyed at people posting feminist issues in AIBU is hypocritical to say there least.
SoupDragon · 07/06/2021 14:14

Well it’s the arrogance of posters like Humuna and Pumper who should be getting to you.

No because they are not what the thread is about.

Pumperthepumper · 07/06/2021 14:14

@stackemhigh I couldn’t care less where the threads are posted. I’m on the FWR board right now, I makes no difference to me.

stackemhigh · 07/06/2021 14:15

@SoupDragon

Well it’s the arrogance of posters like Humuna and Pumper who should be getting to you.

No because they are not what the thread is about.

This makes zero sense.
SoupDragon · 07/06/2021 14:20

It makes more sense than your post did.

SoupDragon · 07/06/2021 14:21

This thread is about a specific thing - FWR threads being moved out of AIBU. Therefore it is reasonable to specifically mention the arrogance of posting like that. Whether or not other people are, in your opinion, being arrogant is entirely irrelevant to that.

SoupDragon · 07/06/2021 14:22

Anyway, I'm going to hide this now for the same reason I have all the FWR boards hidden.
