AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

To be pissed off that even though every other thread in AIBU has a relevant topic it could go in, it only seems to be feminism-related threads that get moved?

Looking at the first page of AIBU alone, I can see several threads that would more appropriately be posted in Relationships, Coronavirus, Education, Chat, Politics, etc etc.

People post all sorts of irrelevant non-AIBU shitin AIBU for traffic. Everyone knows this.

And yet it only seems to be feminism-related threads that attract a load of posters going “UGH there’s a feminism topic for this you know” and eventually the threads get put back in their place, just like those pesky feminists moved to the feminism topic, where only people who seek out feminism-based threads will see them.

Why is this? Why is it ok for people to post in AIBU about covid vaccines, or employment issues, or whether you live within walking distance of your kids school, but not to bring attention to current issues facing women that many may not be aware of?

probably because most of us have that bit hidden so we don't have to deal with the blatantly disgusting and unacceptable level of Transphobia that every single thread devolves into.

Shakespeare79 · 07/06/2021 11:26

@Bunnyfuller

If it were wider topics around feminism then I would be happy to read and learn, but the constant tirade about what rights trans should or shouldn’t have is tedious, and tbh offensive.

Substitute the word ‘trans’ for any other protected characteristic and the horrible nature of this mindset is even more obvious.

I could not give a shit what people call themselves, which skin they’re happiest in and who they fancy. Give it a bloody rest.

But I think this is why the issues need to be outside FWR sometimes- because so many people still don’t understand them.

It would be very weird if educated, rational, often left-leaning women randomly decided to slate the trans community. That clearly isn’t what happened.

As I’ve said, I’ve lurked, read and leant on FWR. I genuinely can’t see how anyone could read the threads there and come away with the impression there is ‘hatred’ or ‘trans bashing’ going on. People who say that do, I’m afraid, come across as unintelligent.

I’m not claiming to be one of those well-informed posters; as I’ve said, I just speak as I find.

And there it is again, the believe that having a pro-trans stance means you're uneducated.

FYI.. it doesn't, and you're not helping your stance with idiotic statements like that.

Excilente · 07/06/2021 11:35

*belief, bloody autocorrect.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 07/06/2021 11:37

Awww there there, has the right wing moral panic thread being moved to the correct echo chamber topic triggered you this much that you started a TAAT, don't worry snowflakes I've reported this one for you as well

toastofthetown · 07/06/2021 11:39

@Potteringshed

So what topics are acceptable AIBU ones, do you have a list?

Well, a post where the OP genuinely wants to know if they've been unreasonable. Like the thread is meant to be. Not some nonsense made up "am I being unreasonable to think [political opinion I am totally committed to]" or "am I unreasonable to tell you about [thing I wanted to tell you anyway]". And definitely not posts where there isn't even a question and it just starts with "everyone should read this Daily Mail article".

You’ve just said exactly what I was going to. If you don’t think that you might be unreasonable and are genuinely open to being called unreasonable then AIBU isn’t for you. I had a quick look at the thread yesterday (which this thread definitely isn’t about) and the OP was completely convinced that she was right.

That said, I am often called the thread police.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/06/2021 11:41

It's appalling - as is some misogyny ...

TeaAndStrumpets · 07/06/2021 11:56

77% think YANBU, OP. Great topic, thank you.

An idiotic statement, in my opinion, would be to state that there is no clash between women’s rights and trans rights.

It’s fine not to care, of course, but there are some things that are true even if you don’t care about them.

If you don’t care that women’s sport will disappear- fine! If you don’t care that young girls will lose the right to single-sex spaces away from men - fine! If you don’t care that sex-based rights and women-only refuges will go - fine!

But I do wonder what people who ‘don’t care about’ the discussions about these things actually do care about.

EishetChayil · 07/06/2021 12:03

I really wish the trans stuff could have its own subforum so I don't have to engage with it at all.

Yeah, that would be nice, wouldn't it. Just to pretend it isn't happening.

Only what happens when you wake up five years down the line and see women being forced to call their rapists "she", when your young female relative loses her place on the Olympic women's team to a male-born athlete, when women of low are dying because they don't know what "cervix haver" means so skip their smear test?

Will you take notice then?

Bunnyfuller · 07/06/2021 12:03

Please move the thread, @MNHQ.

No problems with discussing FWR, just cannot stomach the anti trans agenda, which every.single.discussion.with.them turns into.

The picking apart individual sentences will start soon.

And pointing out that there is clearly a clash results in name calling - transphobe, bigot and now comparisons to being anti-Semitic.

Oh dear. I will report this one as well. Boring.
This is why it's happening. Posters like @oioisaveloy108 (who I suspect is a man) are reporting these threads, whereas most other people don't bother threads for being AIBUs.

It's not an anti trans agenda is pro the rights (as enshrined by UK law) of women and girls to single sex spaces or sports. Trans people already have rights under UK law too. Stop pushing this narrative.

This! I’m baffled that so many women seem happy for men to take spaces in women’s refuges, programmes designed to increase women’s participation in under represented areas, political positions designed for women, places in women’s sports teams or compete against women and of course be put in women’s prisons

Trans women have the same human rights as everyone else and that should be rigorously enforced but they can’t have women’s rights because they’re not women, they’re trans women

I’m a woman. I reported this thread as I feel it should either be in Site Stuff or Women’s rights. The OP clearly doesn’t think they are being unreasonable so AIBU is the wrong place for this.

Do you have a clear explanation as to how trans rights don’t clash with women’s rights? If so, you could put a stop to this whole rigmarole that you seem to find so tiresome. We’re all waiting!

I didn't say it's only men reporting these threads, just that some people have an agenda of reporting certain threads only.

Why not just not read the thread then? Or hide it?

Why does it have to be moved?

Do you request that every thread you don’t want to read gets moved?

If not, why not?

Not every thread as that would be a full time job. I report some though. I’m frequently accused of being the thread police. Not sure I’ve reported an FWR one before though.

Bunnyfuller · 07/06/2021 12:47

No, just the anti trans ones. There are other things, you know.
