To think people are crazy to give the covid vaccination to their children

After being approved for 12-15 year olds , I'm wondering how many would actually volunteer their child to get the jab?

My 15 year old has stated he wants to be vaccinated. He has had every other vaccine offered to him and I have already had both of my covid vaccines.

My 12 year old is desperate to get it. I’m happy for her to. I’m fully vaccinated and didn’t have any qualms. I’m slightly insulted that you brand me crazy for this.

Why not?

It wouldn’t be approved if there was a high risk to the children.

The government are weighing up whether it would be safer to vaccinate or not and have concluded it is

I have made my risk assessment as others are free to make theirs.

Children can, and do, get long covid. Which appears to be very debilitating...

Absoutely happy for mine to receive mRNA. If a really nasty (for the young) variant comes along, I want mine already protected. It's just good planning.

My DD is 11 but I would be happy for her to get the vaccine when she is 12. I know a few kids who have been very poorly with Covid and little is still known about any potential long-term health effects. The Pfizer vaccine has been approved and used in many other countries around the world for 12+ year olds.

Maybe some 12 year olds live with vulnerable adults and already realise that they can help prevent spread if they are vaccinated?
I wouldn't make my teens have the vaccine if they really didn't want it, but I will certainly encourage them to.

Over age 12 they are entitled to have their voice heard in terms of consent. When the HPV came around, I discussed it with my DDs and let them make the decision. Even the deeply needle phobic one had it.

They're now 18, 19 and 20 so adults and entirely entitled to choose. They will all be having it when offered because they understand the concept of herd immunity. Calling people 'crazy' for making different choices to yours is deeply offensive. Talk to your DC, let them read up a range of information and make a choice - but don't call people names.

There is somewhere in between being desperate to jab your kids and being an “anti-vaxxer” FFS. Honestly we used to be able to have adult discussions about these things.

It’s perfectly rational to have reservations about a very new medication with no long term safety data, being administered en masse to our children. We have always protected children, sometimes to the detriment of others. It’s not “anti” anything.

People who are rational and willing to engage in conversation don't usually start the discussion by telling those who disagree that they are crazy.

Mine are older but if they were that age I would absolutely want them to have it.
