Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

If I was not leaving the house at all I would be in some for of lounge wear, but dresses and skirts and my ordinary leaving the house clothes. So I would do the weekly shop in a dress or run errands in one

Kissthepastrychef · 06/06/2021 13:26

I wear maxi dresses a lot, much cooler and you don't have to worry about whether the top you want is clean

Sarahlou252 · 06/06/2021 13:27

All the time. At home or out. If its hot I will be in a dress. If it is cold I will be in a dress with leggings underneath. I just love dresses, some just more casual than others.

Purplemist · 06/06/2021 13:28

I don't own a dress, unless you count long tunics (worn with trousers). I do have a maxi skirt I bought in a charity shop. I wore it once around the house but it didn't feel right.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 06/06/2021 13:30

I hate skirts though. I'm fat , with most of the weight around my belly . I find skirts waistlines a lit trickier than trousers, and also skirts in general hard to match with the type of tshirts I wear.

I just bought a pair of light denim flared trousers and I love them, even if I feel like I'm travelling back in time. They look ok with most of my tshirts too.Fingers crossed they're not "jeans" enough so I can wear them at work too.Grin

kowari · 06/06/2021 13:31

I wear jeans or Bermuda shorts and tshirts. Can't stand not having fabric between my legs and I wear a 6 in jeans so I don't understand how anyone finds it comfortable to be honest. I'm also not a particularly feminine woman and don't like fussy or pretty clothes.

MareofBeasttown · 06/06/2021 13:32

@earminted

I feel all wrong in feminine clothes, like I'm in drag. DH would faint if I put a frock on.
Heh:) I did feel this way, but I am getting over it. DH has been very appreciative. The trainers with dresses trend really helps, as someone said. I never wear heels.
RosesAndHellebores · 06/06/2021 13:32

Nearly always wear dresses - occasionally trousers on a Friday or at weekends. In winter with opaques and boots, in summer with flats or slides.

AnxiousAlpaca · 06/06/2021 13:34

I feel the same as you in a dress OP and never really been one for wearing them but will on occasion if I’m going somewhere special. I’m a jeans/T-shirt/and leather jacket person. V causal. If I wear anything remotely smarter for work I get asked if I’m off for a court appearance Grin I never leave the house without a full face of makeup though.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 06/06/2021 13:36

I wear dresses or skirts (with thick tights in winter) most of the time, never jeans, soft tracksuits if I'm indoors/ with close friends. Or long floaty trousers for a change in the summer.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 06/06/2021 13:37

My clothes aren't particularly un-casual though, it's just denim skirts and tights or cotton frocks - a bit old fashioned perhaps but not formal

workwoes123 · 06/06/2021 13:40

Haven’t worn a dress since I was bridesmaid to my cousin 25 years ago. I’ve never been comfy in them and feel very overdressed. Plus big boobs, broad back, narrow hips and skinny legs? Dresses that fit me up top tend to be like tents down below, so it’s much easier to buy separates in different sizes.

callmemaybee · 06/06/2021 13:42

I do

dresses and skirts are so easy to throw on and go

I have short legs so wearing any type of trouser is actually more difficult. If I wear trousers/jeans/leggings etc with trainers or boots or flat shoes, my legs look really stumpy if my ankles aren’t on show. If I wear them with heels or sandals I look okay, but then it’s a question of bringing another pair of shoes to drive in or change into if the heels start hurting my feet !

Linguaphile · 06/06/2021 13:45

Dresses all the time, especially in summer. So much cooler and no need to coordinate separates.

MintyMabel · 06/06/2021 13:48

The first date with my husband’s parents I wore a dress and he exclaimed “fuck me you’re wearing a dress!”

I probably haven’t worn a dress since about that time, except for my wedding. That was about 20 years ago.

JaceLancs · 06/06/2021 13:48

I much prefer dresses - just throw on and go - no matching separates
In the heat I’m far too hot in jeans and struggle to find shorts that flatter
Yesterday I bought 3 dresses a jersey t shirt dress with a small pattern which will work well for casual or work, an animal print sundress and a linen ditsy print floral

I sound like you so I’d be interested to see what dresses you’ve found!
MintyMabel · 06/06/2021 13:50

I have short legs so wearing any type of trouser is actually more difficult.

This makes dresses difficult for me too. Ones which are supposed to be knee length hit me mid calf which make me look way shorter, and ankle length dresses are far too long on me.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 06/06/2021 13:50

If im going to work I wear leggings and a tshirt as im changing into scrubs

Going out for lunch it’s normally jeans, tshirt, cardigan (or jumper) and trainers but im nicer weather I replace that with a dress and trainers 😃

jackstini · 06/06/2021 13:54

I wear dresses all the time - find they are the most comfortable and I frankly CBA to match tops to bottoms most of the time

Huge range though - t-shirt dresses to cocktail!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 06/06/2021 13:55

I recently decided that dresses are the answer to my wardrobe issues. I'm too fat currently and too tall for most trousers, I am crap at putting tops with trousers and never get an outfit to look right. I bought some cheap dresses (similar sounding to yours, OP) and decided summer would be dresses (plus chub rub shorts!) and sandals and no more stressing about what to wear.
It's amazing, no waistband and no coordination problems. Belt and necklace finish it off and I look pretty good. DH appreciates it too Wink

I'm only around the house today but wearing dress plus belt and feeling cool and comfy. Unfortunately cleaning and cooking in a dress means it's now a bit grubby, but it's day 2 of wearing it and it was £14 (thanks Shein) so not being precious about it. You get more wear from a dress before washing (if not cooking and cleaning in it) than you do from things with a crotch Blush

jackstini · 06/06/2021 13:57

Oh and I buy mostly from eveything5pounds.com

Tons of choice, majority are good quality and I don't mind experimenting for a fiver!

SallyCinnabon · 06/06/2021 13:57

OP I’m similar. I replied on another thread about jeans that I’m such a jeans and top girl. It’s my style and what I’m comfortable in. Before lockdown 1, I only ever wore a dress at weddings and always felt ridiculous, like I was cos-playing being an adult but it wasn’t me. I then branched out into maxi skirts/midi skirts for holidays abroad where it’s too hot and somehow I feel less self conscious in them on holiday. Over here in the UK, unless it’s like 26 degrees with no sign of cloud or rain I won’t wear them as I feel exposed and too ‘dressed up.’ I have bought a few full length wide leg linen trousers and a few mid calf culottes so I can wear when it’s warm without feeling stupid in a dress/skirt. Blush

diamondpony80 · 06/06/2021 13:58

Last time I wore one was for a christening, and that was before covid. I normally only wear dresses on special occasions and when abroad on holidays. Never wear them casually at home.

ShinyMe · 06/06/2021 13:59

I haven't worn dresses in decades, ever since I grew boobs really, as I just could not find a dress that fitted me - am short, overweight and have huge boobs. But now I found that Fatface Simones are comfy and fit me AND have pockets, so I have... eight? nine? I wear them all the time, and almost always for work.
