Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I wear dresses a lot.

Last week I was wearing leggings and kept panicking I'd lost my skirt. It was like a naked dream for real.

I'm going back to dresses.

I'm not sure I understand (not read all the thread, just the OP) Just..... if you're comfortable in joggers and jeans, what made you suddenly buy dresses? I'd happily wear dresses as I wear skirts daily. Feel more comfortable in skirts and dresses than I ever do in trousers.
Susannahmoody · 07/06/2021 01:48

I like the dresses that you linked, op, I'd wear them both.

I wear dresses all the time, I feel like a different person in them! Very glam, even when the dress is casual

Teessider · 07/06/2021 06:03

@Quaggars it's boiling in jeans sometimes and like I said, ' on a whim' really.

I am a size 16 and wear dresses throughout summer. Usually wrap or shirt dresses. In winter I only really wear jeans. I hate seeing larger women in stifling hot jeans in summer, when they must be so uncomfortable.

Today I am wearing this one from Mint Velvet with black Birkenstock Madrids.www.next.co.uk/g271240s1/373634#373634

shouldistop · 07/06/2021 10:07

This is the dress I'm wearing today. It's got deep pockets, elasticated waist at back and buttons down so I can breastfeed in it.
I usually wear it with white trainers but I'm at the beach so have flip flops on today.
Comfortable and practical.

@PattyPan can you tell me what lady shave you have please and what do you think of it?

TheVanguardSix · 07/06/2021 10:35

I never wear dresses. I have terrible varicose veins and poor circulation. I was a Pretty Polly leg model in my youth (49 now). I was known for my legs. Oh the fucking irony! Anyway, I've had multiple surgeries to get rid of my veins and I've just given up- they come back in 6 months and I don't want to keep have to go under GA every 3-5 years for surgeries that don't really solve the problem. It's a total bummer.
So, Hush is my friend. I live in joggers or loose trousers. I never wear tight clothes. Can't stand anything hugging my skin. Loose and airy for me. No jeans.
Fortunately, I still have a decent shape. But get me in a dress or worse, a swimsuit, and all the uglies come out. Varicose veins really suck.

PattyPan · 07/06/2021 10:49

@Anydreamwilldo12 it’s this one
www.argos.co.uk/product/4179102?clickPR=plp:1:12
I think it’s pretty good, it doesn’t get quite as close a shave as my safety razor does on the armpits but it’s great for on the legs, decent battery life and was quite cheap. I’d recommend it Smile

KarensGobbyChops · 07/06/2021 10:59

I wax now but when I shaved (being v dark haired and properly pale N European skinned) I can promise I have never had the equivalent of 4 o clock shadow on my legs!
If people do get that, does a tan stop it?

Weird theories bouncing around on this thread Grin.

Anydreamwilldo12 · 07/06/2021 11:07

Thank you @PattyPan

OP, ba&sh has a sale on now and they tend to have lots of dresses that are very wearable in the day. I wear lots of their midi dresses in winter with a belt and boots.

Claudie Pierlot or Maje sometimes have lovely dresses? Ghost also has some easy to wear things.

God knows what’s happened to Anthropologie in the last few years. They used to have some very wearable silk dresses for the summer. I used to like their Maeve brand and a few others. Now everything has gone kind of frumpy.

I wear dresses every day in the summer and always have. I find them much more comfortable. In the winter, it’s probably 50/50 jeans and skirts / dresses.

Lunificent · 07/06/2021 11:15

Someone find me a dress I wouldn’t look ridiculous in. They all look like nighties on me.
I’m short, short waisted (waist size 8 and hips size 12), and very fat of calf and cankle. So too short for a long dress and too cankly for a short one.

Excilente · 07/06/2021 11:37

i'm another habitual dress wearer (albeit with leggings/snag footless tights on underneath) but its only a habit from the last 3 or 4 years i think?

Before that i wouldn't be seen dead in one, but now? i wear them the majority of the time, and largely get comments about how nice they look.

CounsellorTroi · 07/06/2021 11:52

Loose cotton/jersey trousers are really comfortable in summer. Jeans are not the only alternative to a dress.

IjustbelieveinMe · 07/06/2021 12:07

Teesider- those dresses you bought are lovely.

No, not to sit in the house. I wear dresses sometimes I'm going out. Not for shopping and errands though. Out for lunch or a trip somewhere, then yes.

If I'm not going out I wear PJ's, leggings & tshirt or hoody. If I only have to walk my dogs and not go anywhere else I just wear leggings and a top.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 07/06/2021 13:41

I have some casual tshirt material type ones that are good in hot weather but also handy in that they can be quite easily dressed up if I need to look a bit smarter

Have this one on today. Feeling faintly ridiculous Grin My business partner popped over for a spot of work and did a double take. Said it was a bit flouncy and flippy and absolutely not me - she's used to seeing me in black jeans, Grenson boots and a band t shirt! Instead I'm in a red dress and Birkenstock's Grin

Excilente · 07/06/2021 16:09

pfft, not up to anyone else to say if its you or not!

Styles change.. i used to dress solely in black, jeans, and long t-shirt/tunic things with Dr Martin boots and bandanas in my hair...

Now at home i do still lounge about in trakkies and t-shirts, and i'm LOVING the new loungewear trend.. never happier than in something akin to my pjs :)... but outside, i live in swing or skater type dresses.

This month i bought one of those shirred top, smock type midi dresses with slightly floofy sleeves, and everyone has kind of looked at me askance as its not 'me' but i like it, and i dont give a flying fuck about what anyone else thinks.

IF i want to float about in a gingham smock dress with a straw hat and birkies, i bloody well will.

catsjammies · 07/06/2021 16:17

It really depends. It'll probably be dresses for the next week as I'm about to start my period so waistbands make me feel really uncomfortable.
I love a big floaty feminine summer dress with a pair of converse!

user1471541711 · 07/06/2021 16:23

I just bought 3 from cath kidston in the sale. Fitted top and full skirt. Hides fat belly and flattering for small chest. Not worn them outside yet though!

Cosims8 · 07/06/2021 16:29

OP - I had that dress on yesterday! I often wear that style because it’s so easy to wear and flattering. I have lots of tea dresses and that type of thing. I never wear trousers really, unless I absolutely have to. The only flat shoes I have are trainers. I feel so weird in flat shoes.
