Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I wear dresses most days. I find them much easier than separates.

DotsandCo · 06/06/2021 16:22

I nearly always wear a dress...so much so, that on the odd occasion that I don't, people comment 🤣

FightingFiles · 06/06/2021 16:27

I'm overweight, short and lazy, in the summer I live in these and snag shorts. The comfiest thing ever. When it's cooler a midi dress, tights and boots. I only wear dresses, really.

I love dresses. Today I'm wearing an empire line, puff sleeve summer dress to walk the dog InGrin

Dresses are just so comfy to wear and they look so nice. I never wear Jeans though. Feel so restricted in them. Horses for courses.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/06/2021 16:41

I wear trousers a lot, but also often dresses, particularly in the Summer and early Autumn .

LagneyandCasey · 06/06/2021 16:44

Accidentallyonpurpose

Trust me, I go a LOT and the pull on style isn't too bad, I roll it down and hang on to it with one hand so it doesn't touch the floor. Dare I say it.. at a push the material is stretchy enough yo be pulled to one side. I don't wear it if it's the time of the month, that would be too much. I have this one from Asda and a similar black one from Sainsburys. I sized up so it's looser than on the model. I love them, my mum tum seems to magically disappear.

I don't wear dressed very often. When I do, I keep running my hands over my thighs to make sure I'm actually wearing something on my bottom half because it feels so weird to not feel material hugging my skin. To me it just feels like I forgot to put my trousers on Blush

CutieBear · 06/06/2021 17:09

I wear dresses or skirts most days. Occasionally I wear jeans, but I need to plan my outfit. I never wear leggings unless I’m doing a workout.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 06/06/2021 17:10

@MaBroon21

Intriguing. What is the purpose of an underskirt?

They help make your clothes sit better just as an inbuilt lining would.

But I think you knew that anyway.

I honestly didn't, I have heard of petticoats which I assumed just made skirts more twirly, but other than that, I thought maybe for warmth Blush. Don't think I've ever had a dress with a lining either, but I can kind of see how that would hang better if the lining is slippery. Does that work for skirts?
Oldraver · 06/06/2021 17:17

Yes I've started wearing dresses mostly when I'm not at work

I bought a cotton underskirt so I could wear my dresses in winter ( have an extra layer of warmth)

Lady year I only wore dresses in the summer

Today I've been wearing this one, I do have some more casual linen ones for wearing at home without a bra and others more dressy

Bananahana · 06/06/2021 17:28

Dresses so easy, literally one item of clothing, little to think about.

Oldraver · 06/06/2021 17:36

@SallyCinnabon

A lot of women worrying about ‘pasty’ legs…. there’s plenty of reasons I’m don’t wear dresses/skirts often but this isn’t one of them.

Own your skin ladies, put two fingers up to the beauty industry who want you to feel self conscious and buy tanners!!

I stopped shaving my legs last year, and I'm still not sure about it but that is probably from years of conditioning
priya3 · 06/06/2021 17:41

Yes I wear dresses or skirts every day, sometimes long and float, sometimes mini, sometimes midi, depending on the weather and my mood. I only have two pairs of jeans and do not own any trousers. I also rarely wear flat shoes or boots (with the exception of trainers for running or the gym). I’ve always been like this, thinking about it. Even as a child, I always wore dresses and I think that’s all I had.

You look fabulous!
ShinyMe · 06/06/2021 17:44

@SirSamuelVimes

I wish I could be a "just throw on a dress" woman.

But:
Leg shaving
Armpit shaving
Cellulite on thighs
Pasty white skin
Chub rub
Being 5'11" so nothing sits right & is way shorter than its intended to be

All conspires against my dress wearing dreams Sad

I have all those things (except the height) and I wear dresses all the time. Even with my hairy white legs, scars on my knees. Not once has anyone pointed and laughed, or stared, or made a comment. I'm 48 though, so I am invisible. But I gave up shaving during the first lockdown and haven't been tempted to go back to it yet.
Chailatteplease · 06/06/2021 17:51

No. Because I have to shave my legs in preparation for dress wearing Grin

FluffyRabbitGal · 06/06/2021 17:54

How funny!! I wear dresses everyday, and haven’t worn trousers since 1998. I’m just the wrong shape for trousers. I have dresses with are baggy which I ‘slob about’ in, so wear them around the house to clean or garden in. I have casual dresses which skater style ones, as my narrowest part is under my bust, and these are floral or bright colours. Then I wear more structured dresses for special occasions.
My figure doesn’t suit trousers, and like I said skater type dresses suit my shape as the waist is higher and I always choose prints or colours which I love, I don’t really care what I look like!!
I guess it’s all about what we feel comfortable in- if I wore your ‘uniform’ I would feel really uncomfortable, and I imagine you’d feel equally unchanged in mine! I personal feel that women look much more beautiful when they’re happy and comfortable!

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 06/06/2021 17:55

I feel exactly the same. I also feel much bigger in a dress, I like the separation trousers give. I did wear some dresses when I went abroad a couple of years ago and people seemed very complimentary about them, but I absolutely do not feel comfortable/confident in them.

SirSamuelVimes · 06/06/2021 17:56

I can't shake the social conditioning against hairy legs. Not helped by my snow white colouring - dark, dark brown hair and pasty white skin means I have visible stubble (leg and underarm) by the end of the day if I shave in the morning.

I wish I could - I get genuinely angry with myself - but I think I look disgusting with body hair on show.

The ridiculous thing is I don't think that about other women - I'm mostly envious of them being able to do what I can't, which is stop giving a shit.

FluffyRabbitGal · 06/06/2021 17:56

*uncomfortable

priya3 · 06/06/2021 17:57

If you don’t like shaving, just go for a wax? I got completely lasered years ago because I can’t remember the statistic, but it was something about the average woman spends x number of years over the course of a lifetime involved in hair removal! So, I figured it was a good investment and had everything lasered below my face.

EmeraldShamrock · 06/06/2021 18:02

I'll try a day dress with shorts, my bottom isn't use to the air.
Laser is excellent if you can afford it.

MurryFuff · 06/06/2021 18:07

I never wear dresses. Vvvv rarely.

They make me feel exposed as silly as that sounds

SirSamuelVimes · 06/06/2021 18:07

This is my plan when I can afford it. I used to go for waxing but I have ridiculously strongly rooted hair so it would only last a week before I got regrowth, and I would have stubble before that as a lot of the hairs would break instead of being pulled out.

Luckily I hear that pale skin/dark hair is the best one for laser removal so I'm hoping when I can afford it, that will actually work!

priya3 · 06/06/2021 18:16

Yes SirSamuelVimes, pale skin and dark hair is apparently the best for lasering, although I have more olive skin, but it still worked. And this was a long time ago - it will be more effective these days. They say Phillips Lumea are good too?
