Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

@SallyCinnabon

A lot of women worrying about ‘pasty’ legs…. there’s plenty of reasons I’m don’t wear dresses/skirts often but this isn’t one of them.

Own your skin ladies, put two fingers up to the beauty industry who want you to feel self conscious and buy tanners!!

Exactly. What's wrong with my pale skin?
Toofaroutallmylife · 06/06/2021 14:29

I can’t wear jeans anymore so I live in Seasalt dresses / tunics and leggings

Oblomov21 · 06/06/2021 14:30

I wear dresses all the time. Posh ones, slobby throw on ones, work ones. Always have. Dresses really suit me.

gurglebelly · 06/06/2021 14:33
@theshadeofgreen sloggi do shorts that are just cotton so lightweight. Think they're called long line briefs. I wear them if my legs are likely to be sweaty or am wearing a short dress.
I second these. I have about 8 pairs to wear under maxi dresses (on the rare occasion that I wear a dress)

Hallyup6 · 06/06/2021 14:34

I wear jeans all the time. I own one dress that I wore to a wedding and haven't worn it since. If it's roasting, I'll wear denim shorts. I don't do feminine.

EmeraldShamrock · 06/06/2021 14:35

I don't.
I was in the park earlier lots of people had lovely summer dresses on.
I was thinking of buying one too.

ZeusandClio · 06/06/2021 14:35

I wear dresses for work but rarely wear one outside of work, I live in jeans and leisure wear! When it's really hot I might wear a light summer dress, in the winter it wouldn't cross my mind to wear a dress (without being paid to).

firstevernamechange · 06/06/2021 14:37

I live in dresses. You look put together without having to think about it and find them much more comfy thant top bottom combo. I also have plenty of black shoes and bags that go with everything.

Thecatsawinner · 06/06/2021 14:38

I lived in dresses last summer when it was sweltering. Next do a great selection. The linen ones I’ve got in different colours

tealandteal · 06/06/2021 14:39

I wear dresses and skirts quite a lot, for work and leisure. Yesterday I wore a jumpsuit for the first time without looking 9 months pregnant and it was amazing! Finally found a nice one that wasn't incredibly short. So nice when you find something new to change up your wardrobe.

LakieLady · 06/06/2021 14:39

I'd wear dresses much more often if I could find ones that fit me (top heavy, big boobs, low waist), come well below my knee and have sleeves to hide my bingo wings.

I have a few loose linen dresses, with handy pockets, that I wear when it's hot (with Big Bloomer Co anti-chub rub bloomers Blush), but the shop where I used to find them hasn't survived the lockdowns. Sea Salt do similar dresses, but much more expensive. And I have a few Adini more floaty things for any event that requires something a bit more "dressy".

I have a great denim dress that I wear in winter over a longsleeved tee, with navy opaque tights and navy brogues. It's knee length, so risk of showing my flabby thighs if I wear it without tights.

I bloody love dresses though, they're so easy to wear. Nothing to tuck in and most of mine don't even have buttons or zips.

DustyMaiden · 06/06/2021 14:43

I am currently wearing a dress which is unusual. I do love cotton dresses when the weather is this hot.

LozzaChops101 · 06/06/2021 14:44

I don't own a frock, I feel ridiculous wearing them. Very envious of everyone who wears them without a second thought!

NotMeNoNo · 06/06/2021 14:50

I’m only calling my own legs pasty, I’m sure lots of MNers have lovely fair legs. Clearly from this discussion the dress fashion providers have nothing to worry about!

Camomila · 06/06/2021 14:53

I'm wearing a dress and leggings right now - it's my usual outfit.
If I need to look smart I'll wear tights and if its warm bare legs.

Jeans feel so uncomfy post pandemic!

cakecakecheese · 06/06/2021 14:53

I wore a jumpsuit the other day and my partner was astonished as I usually only ever wear dresses.

MaBroon21 · 06/06/2021 14:53

I wear dresses and don’t think twice about it. But I also wear trousers and skirts. One thing I’d never do though is wear a dress or a skirt without an underskirt. I have loads of the things all different colors and lengths.

This. I spent years never getting my pasty, red dotted legs out, or trying and failing to fake tan them. Then a few years ago I decided I don't give a fuck. I don't even always shave my legs, because TBH, why should I?

Intriguing. What is the purpose of an underskirt?
Whyhello · 06/06/2021 15:02

I wear them every so often and don’t really think twice about it. I tend to only bother with them when it’s warm outside, I can’t be bothered with tights at all.

MaBroon21 · 06/06/2021 15:03

They help make your clothes sit better just as an inbuilt lining would.

But I think you knew that anyway.

AtoZed · 06/06/2021 15:07

I do too much gardening to wear a dress! I'm usually in my joggers and T-shirt.

I will wear a dress if I'm going out, wore one on Tuesday for the first time in 14 months! Woo!

I'm sure your legs are lovelier than you 've been conditioned to think ;)
SunnydaleClassProtector99 · 06/06/2021 15:08

Fatface do good dresses op. I have the athletic shoulders problem and find halter necks, high neck and spaghetti straps emphasize this.
Thick straps, lowish neck and scoop neck works best for me.

LagneyandCasey · 06/06/2021 15:09

I have lots of summer dresses but this year I've discovered jumpsuits inspired by ladbaby mum. They're a bit comfier around the thighs on sweaty days and better on breezy days than a dress.
