Chairs given away have caused damage, who should pay?

Last year I was given a dining table and due to lockdown I brought the cheapest chairs online to make the table usable. I used them all year for homeschooling, meals etc they have been well used. Metal legs are a bit rocky etc so I went shopping now we can and brought replacements.
Chatting to a friend I mentioned mutual friend was helping me take a load to the skip. Friend asked what I was taking and I said the chairs. Friend asked for the chairs. I explained they were a bit grubby and rocky and were the ones I got last year cheap online so didn't think they were worth the trip to hers for her to then need to skip them soon. She said she still wanted them, so I dropped them off to her about 3 weeks ago.

This morning she messages me to say the chairs have cut circles in the lino. I apologised and said that I was sorry I should have just skipped them when I planned to. She has come back saying I should have known and shes not happy. I called her and explained that on my tiled floor it wasn't something I noticed. Shes replied it was the tiles that have caused the plastic ends to push into the leg exposing the metal leg and caused the problem. Just as I said my goodbyes she said "well you'll need to replace the lino before I move out else you'll need to give me the money I loose on my deposit" and hung up. I've text to say she asked for the chairs knowing they were in a poor condition so I can't give her anything to replace the lino. Shes now blocked me.

So who should pay?

Cheeky 🐄

SirVixofVixHall · 03/06/2021 10:23

Bizarre ! Up to her to check that the feet were ok on her flooring. She should have put new tips on them. What a rude and entitled person.

EerieSilence · 03/06/2021 10:24

She's either totally deluded or a cheeky F. Either way, not your circus, not your monkeys.

hatcoatscarfalcohol · 03/06/2021 10:24

You're not remotely in the wrong. It's not your responsibility to make sure the furniture she chooses to use on her lino isn't damaging it!

Can you imagine calling Ikea or John Lewis or wherever you shop demanding they replace your floors because you failed to put floor protectors on their chairs?!

They'd laugh you out of town.

She's a crap "friend".

It’s not like you misrepresented them and said ‘these chairs are great and in perfect condition, you should have them!’.

lilyblue5 · 03/06/2021 10:25

Wow. This is not a friend.

DeathStare · 03/06/2021 10:25

She's nuts. This is completely not your problem

osbertthesyrianhamster · 03/06/2021 10:26

@FirstNameSurname

We are both completely skint but help each other out, not anymore, can't risk being asked for money for anything like this happening again.
Block her back in case she tries it on again. She's batshit.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/06/2021 10:26

She reminds me of that burglar who broke in to somebody's house, got trapped and couldn't get out again and then sued the householder for wrongful imprisonment. Was it in the USA? Outrageously, the burglar actually won his case.

Viviennemary · 03/06/2021 10:26

Her hard luck. What a chancer. Dont hand over a penny.

PanamaPattie · 03/06/2021 10:26

MN should invest in a CF emoji for this exact situation.

murbblurb · 03/06/2021 10:27

Ignore. And the silly bitch should know that deposits don't work like that, she'll be charged buttons for the damage.

Beautiful3 · 03/06/2021 10:28

She knew they were in poor condition. You didn't offer them, she asked for them knowing full well they were not of satisfactory quality.

UhtredRagnarson · 03/06/2021 10:28

She’s bonkers!!

Eviethyme · 03/06/2021 10:28

Hahaha I always get so amazed at these, like who in there right minds blames the person who gave it away? You were even going to skip them because they were bad condition!!!

She can't blame you for the chairs being in... BAD CONDITION

IamnotSethRogan · 03/06/2021 10:29

I love that you with know link should know that the legs would damage it, but the person who actually has the lino can't be expected to.

BlueDucky · 03/06/2021 10:30

What! This is one of the weirdest CFs I've seen on here.

Nearlyadoctor · 03/06/2021 10:30

Not your problem

Guiltypleasures001 · 03/06/2021 10:30

Daily Mail fodder for sure

NeedNewKnees · 03/06/2021 10:31

She’s being completely outrageous.

LalalalalalaLand123 · 03/06/2021 10:31

Not a friend. A nutter. Ignore.

mmgirish · 03/06/2021 10:32

She should pay!!

Nothingyet · 03/06/2021 10:33

@CrazyNeighbour

At least she’s blocked you! Problem solved. The crazy took itself away.
LOL!
ApolloandDaphne · 03/06/2021 10:33

She pays, not you.
