To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

@Miljea

Many posters have revealed far more about themselves than maybe they realise?

I doubt they give a shit. I know I don't.

I have an inflatable hot tub; it works in every respect for me and my family. Love it.

I am so pleased for you.

I am mustering the strength to care if others have an opinion on my hot tub, given that it doesn't affect anyone else.

Good for you!

@saltwinds I live in New Zealand and spa pools are very common here. I’ve never heard anyone refer to them as sex ponds or germ pools. Ours takes v little time to maintain , just quick test of the water add chemicals if needed. Clean the filter once a month etc. The websites of the spa manufacture usually have helpful info /videos on maintenance. In terms of lifting the lid off , I was finding that difficult due to bad back so we have a lid lifter which makes it much easier.
In the summer we set it at a lower temperature, but don’t use it as much during the very hot months.
I assuming the people who think they are germ pools never go to a swimming pool, sleep in a hotel bed, use hotel towel etc
The only people who use ours is us and occasionally the little cousins all pile in after we’ve been down the beach on a cool day.

Lightningrain · 01/06/2021 22:47

I love one when I’m on a skiing or walking holiday to soothe achy legs.

I wouldn’t want one in my garden being overlooked by the neighbours, having to do the maintenance and feeling obliged to let family/friends come round to use it.

I don’t judge anybody that has one at home but it’s just not for me.

Eilethya · 01/06/2021 22:47

It's really sad that people feel like they have to defend their personal choice of having a hot tub.

Some right uppity cow bags in here.

omgthepain · 01/06/2021 22:49

Never liked them personally and would never waste my money on one and definitely not sit in one with randome people at a spa or whatever

Plus I remember reading this if this isn't enough to put people off I don't know what is??

Raspberrysins · 01/06/2021 22:51

This thread is hilarious! I never realised there was such strong opinion out there and such snobbery. I also have a trampoline AND we had a barbecue earlier God forbid @littlepattilou. I feel that in life somethings are worth the wait. Like the taste of a gorgeous steak cooked over the coals - so satisfying of an evening. Such a shame that some people don’t have any time to ‘waste’. Sometimes you need to slow the pace of life. Sitting in the hot tub after a long day watching the sunset with a cold beer is one of life’s great pleasures for me. I always thought I was a bit of a snob but clearly a need to work on that 😅. Personally I think there are much worse things (like those long acrylic nails) but that’s just me. But yes, they need to be kept clean and properly maintained otherwise that’s gross. And no sex in them. Ever.

Whammyyammy · 01/06/2021 22:54

Sex pond/chlamydia pool/skin soup cauldron... loving the nicknames.

Don't see the attraction of the chavvy inflatable ones, but a proper one would be nice

NoFeckingClue · 01/06/2021 23:01

@littlepattilou

Incorrect. Gas BBQs are hot enough within 5 minutes.

Well.the all singing all dancing proper one I saw in B&Q was £7000, and my laz y spa was £350 so price maybe .
Mahrezis · 01/06/2021 23:02

Someone I know said it costs them £40 a week to keep theirs warm! Is that right? Sounds a lot

Tereseta · 01/06/2021 23:02

@saltwinds

lippy I can’t put this politely, please fuck off.
👏👏👏
worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 23:03

@littlepattilou 2 hrs to be able to cook? Your using it wrong in that case , pkus many people have gas ones so they are instant, although have a charcoal one as I have a gas hob
We even have a pizza oven so extra chavvy points

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 23:04

@Mahrezis thats what my neighbour said about theirs , I found that hard to believe

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 23:08

@vera99 what is pampas grass ?

RaskolnikovsGarret · 01/06/2021 23:08

How can so many posters find the energy to be so nasty and unpleasant about hot tubs? The mind boggles. And the judgemental attitude towards people who have them is appalling.

Ignorance is bliss sometimes

AutoIncorrect · 01/06/2021 23:14

I saw some pics of hot tub rash and it put me off for life.

BashfulClam · 01/06/2021 23:18

I’ve read about people getting infections via small cuts from them and losing limbs…they make my skin crawl!

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2021 23:19

For all those wondering wtf is going on with the insanely over the top reaction ...

Nothing riles a certain type of middle class poster (amply represented on here) than the democratisation of experiences once deemed ‘luxury’. If it’s no longer exclusive (thanks to the wonderful Aldi and the like), then they must pour scorn.

The lack of basic manners in how these people refer to others is quite something to behold.

Gosh, how many hundreds of thousands have suffered in the way, do tell? 😵

I'm not middle class.

I just don't like being subjected to all the trappings that go with a hot tub in my neighbour's garden: squealing, screeching, TV, radio, music or iPads, pump noise, near nudity if I forget to avert my gaze, late night parties.

And it's my personal opinion that they are gross.

I don't see them as accessible luxury, I see them as annoying and icky. Don't kid yourself it's snobbishness over lack of exclusivity! You're welcome to them, just keep them out of my earshot and eyeline thank you very much and good night.

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2021 23:28

None of these really have anything to do with hot tubs though. Confused

You can have a hot tub without any of that. You can be obnoxious in all those ways without one.

And it's my personal opinion that they are gross.

Well don’t have one then. Your view is irrelevant to other people’s choices.

I thought the same ,o appreciate sepsis is a very serious illness my sil died of it but developing something like that through a small cut and losing a limb after being in a hot tub ,must be a very rare event surely .

I Was responding to the accusation that there's some sort of inverted jealousy going on or a lamentation at the loss of exclusivity...

Nope, I just think that they are just gross.

And yeah you can have a hot tub without most of the other trappings I mentioned but they usually go together.
