To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

grim

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2021 23:33

And yeah you can have a hot tub without most of the other trappings I mentioned but they usually go together.

Is this based on your sample size of one? 🤔

Yesyoucantell · 01/06/2021 23:34

And if you'd read my post properly you'd see I did say

You're welcome to them, just keep them out of my earshot and eyeline thank you very much and good night.

NoProblem123 · 01/06/2021 23:35

What’s with all the sex pond comments ??

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2021 23:35

just keep them out of my earshot and eyeline

In fairness, 99.99999999999999999% of people are.

Yet you have very strong opinions.

TheKeatingFive · 01/06/2021 23:36

I think the correct term is chavvy sex pond.

Or filthy sex pond?

The couple we used to live next door to got one and parked it right against the shared boundary fence, which was close enough to our patio to hear them easily0. They also did the shouting over the noise of it..except they weren’t getting on and they used to use it to have all their arguments, possibly to try not to argue in front of their dc, but obviously in the height of summer with all windows and doors open they could very clearly be heard.

It was quite entertaining. I was quite sad when we moved, a big drama was unfolding because she got sent a knob pic apparently.

WalkthisWayUK · 01/06/2021 23:48

But how long can you really stay in them? Doesn’t your whole body go wrinkly!

WalkthisWayUK · 01/06/2021 23:50

IndigoC · 02/06/2021 00:22

I never gave them a thought until our neighbours got one.

Dreadful, booming noise coming from it 8 hours a day. So loud we can hear it inside through brick walls and double glazed windows. 😱

Yep, they are truly the devil's cauldron
Pinkylemons · 02/06/2021 00:44

We love ours. The kids are in it all the time. Doesn’t take much to maintain. Clean it each night and put the chlorine in. We empty it completely every few months. It’s a rigid one and stays on all year.

LovelyLadyLily · 02/06/2021 00:49

Glad it's not just me that finds these things absolutely revolting.

OP, it's fine to say you made a mistake and not use it anymore. If your husband is so keen then he can maintain, wash swimwear etc.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2021 01:38

Interestingly it's not the 'chavvy' people I know (hate the word) but the more middle class that have these heated Germ ponds. They are definitely a 'keeping up with the jones''thing where I am

User6272 · 02/06/2021 02:13

Definitely not the only one I’ve seen so many up for sale recently

GuildfordGal · 02/06/2021 02:26

I've enjoyed the odd hot tub in the snow, either after skiing or hiking or something. There's something quite nice about the freezing cold air and gazing at the stars while sitting in hot water.

One or two dips, post-actitivy in sub-zero temperatures, every couple of years, that's about right for me. I'm not a fan otherwise. The thought of sitting in one in warm weather doesn't sound at all appealing.

1forAll74 · 02/06/2021 02:32

I think the classy types of hot tubs look ok, if you can place them away from the house, and down a large garden, with some greenery surrounding them etc..But lots of people have hot tubs, right next to the house, in a confined space,on patio area, as they have no garden to speak of.

BritWifeinUSA · 02/06/2021 04:01

I don’t get why people think they are dirty or have to be emptied and scrubbed clean every week? Do you think hotels and leisure centers empty and scrub their pools every single week? And a lot more people use public pools than use a private hot tub. The water is chlorinated and we get in after showering without soap. And yes, we get in naked.

We have this one hottubsbyhotspring.com/product/hot-tubs/hot-spring/hotspot/rhythm/

It constantly filters and we just change the cartridges when needed. It’s only me and my husband that use it - if he had any STDs I wouldn’t need to get into the hot tub to catch them. We change the water every few months. We use it every night. No neighbors, we use it at night and look at the stars and listen to the ocean. It’s very relaxing. A hot tub is as dirty (or clean!) as the people who use it. A really good one doesn’t involve that much work.

BritWifeinUSA · 02/06/2021 04:07

@WalkthisWayUK

But how long can you really stay in them? Doesn’t your whole body go wrinkly!
It doesn’t wrinkle as quickly as a bath because there is a higher salt content in hot tub water than there is in bath water. If it’s done correctly, that is.
aurynne · 02/06/2021 04:29

Why is it that in 2021, the maintenance and laundry related to owning a hot tube is always done by the woman in the house, and the person to most enjoy the tub is the husband? Really? Why on earth are you not leaving all that stuff to the guy at least half of the time?

sunglassesonthetable · 02/06/2021 05:07

Maybe if I was on holiday in Iceland or somewhere after being in the sea.

But overall not for me. Don't like the idea that I'm sitting around in a warm bath, especially with other people.

But each to their own. The animosity on this thread though Confused

Sparrowsong · 02/06/2021 05:51
@Sparrowsong so the people who have it are all chavvy despite some clearly stating why ?
People complain about fake grass and environment and then drive a 4x4 or fly on multiple holidays, all relative and we all have a different carbon footprint
Astro turf has its place in some instances
It has NO place. I live my life so as to reduce my carbon emissions. No flights or 4x4s for sure.

jaundicedoutlook · 02/06/2021 07:28

@WalkthisWayUK

But how long can you really stay in them? Doesn’t your whole body go wrinkly!
The leathery skin most frequently found in hot tubs tends to go supple rather than wrinkly after a lengthy immersion…

Yeah thanks I think I’ve got the message that my family and I are dirty chavs, by now.
