To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

@queenofthenorthwest you've both done an amazing job.

We're currently in a treehouse with a wood burner heated hot tub amongst the trees. It's amazing. Or it would be if I didn't have small children who slightly ruin the vibe.

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 22:05

@Nelia5 I have heard of this being a risk , but isn't it of not looked after ?
Legionella risk with many things inc showers etc under right conditions

CounsellorTroi · 01/06/2021 22:05

I love hot tubs. I'm getting one for my 60th birthday. Just a 2-4 seater, just DH and I will be using them. As for them being too hot in summer, one of my favourite memories is visiting an open air thermal pool park on the Italian volcanic island of Ischia. Even though it was a hot day swimming in those pools felt wonderful.
@Yesyoucantell are you lippy by another name?
Your comment on crammed houses , I live in a terrace , a terrace of 4

My neighbours have young kids they make a noise playing , I have a dog he barks occasionally thats life
Er... I was replying to @queenofthenorthwest

Name change fail?

And no, am not the other poster.

Loads of people f*ing hate hot tub neighbours.

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 22:06

@littlepattilou wow your a bundle of fun, you can say the word you know if you feel it that strongly , bbq takes similar time to an oven

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 22:07

No I bet they don't. You can't hear the pump which does the heating an filtering as we all have long back gardens. It's at the very end of my back.

I am very good friends with both my neighbours either side and you can't hear it. I know this as I've been in their house!

You can only hear it if the bubbles are on which we don't put on after ten.

I don't have parties. Except my DD's and their kids come. Once a year it will be. We haven't had any parties and dont intend to.

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 22:09

@Yesyoucantell I am sure they do if disrespectful, but same can be said for lots of things , peoples kids , dogs , stuck up neighbours etc

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 22:10

Of the name change was aimed at me I name change every time I feel like it. Happy to provide my precious one which I can remember I'm really not arsed.

M0rT · 01/06/2021 22:11

Could I ask a question about the filters? When you say change them after every use are they disposable or are you swapping them out to clean and re-use?
Sorry @saltwinds you haven't put me off, although like some pp I have joint problems so pain relief is the real attraction.
If we get one I will probably be in it on my own most of the time as my DH gets bored after about 10mins in them on holiday with a nice view!

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 22:11

Well this escalated quickly Grin

Yesyoucantell · 01/06/2021 22:11

I was thinking of the ones over the back.

I have 'neighbours' who are in a different street with a huge back garden but they've squashed their hot tub up against the end of it, close to my fence. So they think it's out of the way but it's actually as close as they can get it to my garden.

Honeyroar · 01/06/2021 22:12

I’m always bemused by people going on about skin /cells etc in hot tubs and how they’d never get in one because of germs etc. Yet they’d all probably stay in a hotel and sleep in a bed that hundreds of other people have slept (and had sex in) with no cleaning or sanitising in between other than a cotton, porous sheet. And a pillow that other people have probably dribbled on. I don’t get the hissy fits over germs in hot tubs.

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 22:13

@M0rT

I wash mine every other day if we have been in it.

I then soak it in cleaner and re use. So one in one out.

It's new to me so I'm sucking and seeing as they say.

I get the filter out. Clean all the sections with a toothbrush then soak it.

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 22:16

@Yesyoucantell apologies I will get off my high horse!

I wouldn't of done that to My neighbours I have to live with them to a degree.

Sorry x

user1471538283 · 01/06/2021 22:17

My ex neighbours had one in a small garden about eight feet from my kitchen door and really close to my bedroom. So the pump was loud, they were louder shouting over it and then loud music or TV as well. Until midnight every night. I know that ran out of chemicals and just put in some bleach; they only cleaned it once in seven months; there was dog poo in it. I know what they paid for it and they invited everyone who came to their parties to use it but no one did. I know all this because they bellowed it to each other most nights. I think they thought they were impressing the neighbors.

I do go in one at a spa where it is constantly filtered and regularly changed. I could think of nothing worse at home. It sounds like more work, expense and potentially ruining my skin.

x2boys · 01/06/2021 22:24

@littlepattilou

YANBU. I have never understood the attraction either. Hot tubs are grim and germy and vile.

Also, trampolines and barbecues. I have never seen the attraction with them either. And if a family moved next to me, and set up a trampoline, I'd move.

Like hot tubs, barbecues are too much like hard work, and too high maintenance. And they're the most ridiculous waste of time. Hours and HOURS of standing around, and lots of expense, to do something that you could do in a fifth of the time in an indoor oven. You can still eat it outside after, with your wine or whatever.

Some people have said, it's a certain type of family who has these things. They're right.

my
x2boys · 01/06/2021 22:25

That will be my type of family them 🙄Mumsnet can have some very odd ideas about what people can and cannot do in their own Gardens .

Miljea · 01/06/2021 22:27

This OP is hysterical! As are many of the posts!

I have an inflatable hot tub; it works in every respect for me and my family. Love it.

I am mustering the strength to care if others have an opinion on my hot tub, given that it doesn't affect anyone else.

Many posters have revealed far more about themselves than maybe they realise?

Timeisavirtue · 01/06/2021 22:30

I didn’t even want one, yet I’m the mug that keeps it maintained because DP is always at work and I have to make sure it’s safe for dc to go in otherwise I wouldn’t bother. We have a pool so I maintain that, it doesn’t bother me but the hot tub does!

littlepattilou · 01/06/2021 22:33
@littlepattilou wow your a bundle of fun, you can say the word you know if you feel it that strongly , bbq takes similar time to an oven
No WAY does a barbecue take the same time as an oven PMSL. It takes 2 hours to get to the point where you can cook anything on the bastard thing.

M0rT · 01/06/2021 22:35

@queenofthenorthwest thanks, that sounds much better than disposable!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 01/06/2021 22:36

Only us and DCs in ours. Use it loads. Chat, play cards (waterproof), read, watch movies on the iPad. Relax. We have a UV filter so that kills virtually everything and we don’t have to have as many chemicals in

jannyapple · 01/06/2021 22:37

@saltwinds ignore rude judgmental arrogant comments
Tell your old man to pull his finger out or you'll stamp on it with your chavvy white stillettos...
And if you don't have any .. I'll borrow you a pair ... ❤️

vera99 · 01/06/2021 22:39

I can put up with the tub but a front garden full of pampas grass is a big no no Wink

m0therofdragons · 01/06/2021 22:40

We love our hot tub - it is an American style rigid one and came with the house. We had it serviced and professionally cleaned before using it and Dh checks the levels (of chemicals) daily. It’s best in the autumn watching shooting stars. It’s tucked round the side of the house and not near neighbours. That said, neighbours the other side of us have a hot tub about an inch from our dividing fence. I occasionally hear the pump going on a quiet night when I take the dog for his bedtime wee and sometimes they’re chatting and laughing in it but no more than if they had a table and chairs there.

So much snobbery on mn about them. It’s totally fine for it not to be your thing, a home gym isn’t my thing but I don’t call all home gym owners names. Says more about those posters than the hot tub fans to be honest.
