To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

@Lippy333 last time I checked this was a public forum, you can always hide the thread

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 21:45

@waleswhaleswails it was bedding day today please ignore the washing line

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 21:46

@queenofthenorthwest a bar as well, and nice a private

BigHeadBertha · 01/06/2021 21:46

I didn't read the whole thread. That said and back to the original question, I think a hot tub is one of those things people very often love when they first get it, then lose interest. You are not being unreasonable.

Anjo2011 · 01/06/2021 21:46

Each to their own but never been my kind of thing. One of the parents at school hired one for a kids party. Most of them ended up with follicilitus.
From an adult point of view maybe I’ve read too many stories ( who knows if they are fake or not) about lots of body fluids kicking around in them. I just can’t get excited about them. Maybe I’m missing out but I’m happy to risk it.

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 21:47

@queenofthenorthwest you mean you dry your washing outside ? In view of the neighbours Smile

fantastaballs · 01/06/2021 21:47

Lol at the people thinking hot tubs are sexy 😂

Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you? NOBODY has sex in a a hot tub for gods sake. They are heavily chlorinated, much more so than a pool because of the heat. The chlorine is to kill bacteria. Imagine what that would do to your naturally occurring vaginal bacteria for goodness sake!! You would be on a canestan pessary a day to try and counter act it.

It's you superior "I'll do anything i I can to look down my nose at others" people that accuse us of having sex ponds with random strangers invited around daily..... we don't! We have a hot tub that for the vast majority of us it's vv close family only. 9 people are allowed in my hot tub and I'm biologically related to all of them. They know the rules. No pissing in it and no food or drinks. Definitely no sex. EVER.

lynsey91 · 01/06/2021 21:48

I would never be the slightest bit interested in a hot tub. I hate baths, haven't had one for about 30 years.

Baths are the most boring thing ever. Sitting in a bath in the open air is worse than sitting in a bath indoors

I know you think you're doing a good SJW hatchet job, but it isn't as though I have an issue with people in smaller houses or who have chosen to buy fake grass (though the latter is nothing to do with money and is a matter of choice and IS a bit chavvy)

The point I was making is that some people spend very little then seem to expect some kind of Disney experience. Doesn't happen.

A point I was making is that people perhaps need to be happy with what they can have - appreciating that the precise germ content of one's hot tub is very much a first world problem - especially as it is available to anyone in the UK who does 2 days of min wage work.

Speaking of support. I think some people hang around looking to have an SJW "poor shaming" or "class shaming" go at someone - like gloaters at hangings. That is you. At least I was contributing to the discussion[/quote]
@Lippy333.........
"That is you"???
Nope, you don't speak for me.
I stand by my original comment about your post.
Now you are backtracking and digging yourself an even bigger hole.

MustardRose · 01/06/2021 21:49

I used to work for a swimming pool maintenance company. We used to hand out leaflets about legionnaires disease to anyone who came in the shop for hot tub chemicals.

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 21:50

@fantastaballs that is gorgeous!

We have no bath either just a shower room and as we are getting older we do suffer with back pain. It does make the world of difference to us.

fantastaballs · 01/06/2021 21:50

@queenofthenorthwest

Love you set up. That's what we were hoping to do but the patio is 6mx4m and just too big for a wooden structure. I like your washing line too. I also dry my washing outside. In view of the neighbours. even my intimate items . Sometimes. I even let them get darked on- on purpose!

Yesyoucantell · 01/06/2021 21:51

@queenofthenorthwest

I'm still in the honeymoon phase with mine.

It's all fully enclosed and it's a blow up one with leds in the bottom.

It is a pain in the arse to clean the filters but it is worth it because My dd loves it. We have sky in there aswell which helps.

When my dd and DH are away for the night I've been getting in it with a wine and watching telly.

I bet your neighbours just love you.

My neighbours have an enclosed hot tub and I can still hear them squealing and playing music.

@fantastaballs my comment re: washing outside was supposed to be tongue in cheek@queenofthenorthwest , just thought it may horrify some on here.

bagelbaby · 01/06/2021 21:53

No one ever seems to consider the unnecessary waste of heat and electricity either

fantastaballs · 01/06/2021 21:55

@lynsey91

You may not like it, but I love open air bathing. My favourite memory is being in a hot tub in Iceland watching the northern lights while it snowed on me. Now I love being in my hot tub and reading a book for half an hour. Or being in my hot tub while it rains. I'm not hurting anybody. I understand we all like doing different things but I'd never make somebody else feel like crap by telling them that their very valid personal choices were wrong. That would be incredibly self centred and insular of me.

shakingstevensfan · 01/06/2021 21:55

I can imagine loving one for about a month and then losing interest.

fantastaballs · 01/06/2021 21:57

@bagelbaby

You could argue that nobody needs to be warmer than 18c and ban anything above that in a central heating system. Ban car journeys for just one person. Ban car journeys of less than 4 miles. As it is my electricity is 100% renewable thanks. Is yours?

SecondCityShark · 01/06/2021 21:57

I love mine. I live in the country so it doesn't disturb neighbours. To my mind, there's nothing better than sitting under the stars in the tub with a glass of wine.

I also suffer from an autoimmune disease and I really feel like it calms my symptoms down.

Upkeep is really straightforward and quick. I pop a new chlorine tablet in whenever the old one has run out, change the filter once a week. It's really not hard.

queenofthenorthwest · 01/06/2021 21:58

@Yesyoucantell they do actually

We don't have parties, maybe twice a year to which my neighbours come to.

We have their kids over regularly to play in or out the hot tub. My other neighbour is elderly and has been over. He is deaf also.

We are not loud.
We don't put the bubbles on past 10pm as we are considerate as we live in terraced housing.

So yeah they do love us. The pump can't be heard past one house down.

I'm really lucky.

Lots of houses crammed in on your estate, I'm betting at least some of your neighbours detest you.

Nelia5 · 01/06/2021 22:02

@FolornLawn Google legionella in broken whirlpool baths. Years ago this was one of the reasons why hotels were getting rid of jacuzzi baths. Actually there is also a legionella risk with hot tubs.

worriedatthemoment · 01/06/2021 22:03

@Yesyoucantell are you lippy by another name?
Your comment on crammed houses , I live in a terrace , a terrace of 4
Also most neighbours prob make a noise at sometime and if its not on past 10pm whats the issue
My neighbours have young kids they make a noise playing , I have a dog he barks occasionally thats life

littlepattilou · 01/06/2021 22:04

YANBU. I have never understood the attraction either. Hot tubs are grim and germy and vile.

Also, trampolines and barbecues. I have never seen the attraction with them either. And if a family moved next to me, and set up a trampoline, I'd move.

Like hot tubs, barbecues are too much like hard work, and too high maintenance. And they're the most ridiculous waste of time. Hours and HOURS of standing around, and lots of expense, to do something that you could do in a fifth of the time in an indoor oven. You can still eat it outside after, with your wine or whatever.

Some people have said, it's a certain type of family who has these things. They're right.
