To not be concerned about DDs occasional drug use?

saltyskies8 · 25/05/2021 16:18

DD is 27, living in the city as a single professional and has a fantastic social life (in normal times!). We are very close and have the sort of relationship where she feels able to tell me about most things I'd say. Since moving to the city for work a couple of years ago, she's openly told me that her and her friends will occasionally use cocaine or MDMA on nights out or in and that it's very much normal amongst everyone she knows there. DD is otherwise very fit and healthy and personally, I see her drug use as entirely normal for someone of her age group who is young, single and enjoying life in the city.

DH and I got talking last night after watching a series on bbc3 about drug use and I mentioned DDs recreational drug use, which he was not previously aware of. DH is highly concerned and has accused me of being irresponsible for not being concerned about her health and advising she seeks help. I explained my view that most people in their 20s living in the city are doing this and he believes I'm completely deluded and DD has a problem.

I'm genuinely interested to know others thoughts on this? AIBU in not being worried about drug use at this stage in DDs life?

FYI I completely appreciate there are ethical issues in terms of gang crime, county lines etc. but DD and her friends are already well aware of this and I'd rather focus on the health aspect of this for the purpose of this thread :)

@JungleIsMassive - I’ve no idea, and I’m certainly not about to go trawling back over 27 pages to find out.

There are more than a few and you are among them. Good for you.

DdraigGoch · 25/05/2021 23:26

No friends of mine do these drugs. One or two may have smoked cannabis in the past but nothing this serious. It's certainly not normal, and I can say that with confidence because four of the employers I have worked for used random testing with a failure meaning instant dismissal (I knew a few people who were sacked for cannabis). Even the hotel restaurant staff attached to a theme park were subject to testing.

When have I said I now do drugs? I haven't. Because I don't.

EYProvider · 25/05/2021 23:27

OK, @ThursdayWeld, if you say so.

Coldwine75 · 25/05/2021 23:28

Ironically, you seem to be having a hard time with your comprehension.

Why so defensive, @ThursdayWeld?

I thought you would encourage your own kids to do drugs?

Coldwine75 · 25/05/2021 23:31

So can everyone here agree, please legalise Cannabis!!

a) I'm not defensive. Although you now seem to be.

b) You're just making it up now.

you do know Leah Betts died because she drank 32 pints of water and not because of ecstasy don’t you?

She drank 7 litres or just over 12 pints, not 32 pints.

I am going to say goodnight now @JungleIsMassive, got that choon going through my head now Grin

To be fair, you're the one coming across as defensive. You made a stupid statement and now you're scrabbling about to try and justify it.

Yes!! I love it!

I was going to say it definitely feels like bedtime now.

NewPanDrawer · 25/05/2021 23:35

@EYProvider

You're really not doing any favours for the anti-drugs argument here. If I didn't know better I'd say you were on glue Grin

Shelovesamystery · 25/05/2021 23:36

@Coldwine75 I would imagine that you disagree because your opinion is based on drug users that you've known. My opinion is based on drug users that I've known. I also know a few people that took coke occasionally and it hasn't ruined their lives. But from what I've seen of the people's whose lives have been absolutely decimated by cocaine, my opinion is that drugs ruin lives.

EYProvider · 25/05/2021 23:37

@ThursdayWeld - Nope, you wrote earlier that you are 55 years old and you would encourage your children to take drugs just like the OP. I think you put a little smiley face next to your comment so that we all understood how clever you are.

I dont know any 'drug users' i know perfectly respectable people who take coke sometimes and smoke weed, big difference

Rockpipit · 25/05/2021 23:39

@Rockpipit the logical reason is racism & classism. Because those kids are seen as less then by so many unfortunately.

@bombg I think you're right, sadly.

Lennon80 · 25/05/2021 23:40

@EYProvider

The level of stupidity in your posts is breathtaking. Do you understand the concept of past and present? You have tried to assume some moral high ground but have actually just been abhorrent to people with SEN kids. The people you are talking about are drug addicts not people who used drugs recreationally in their youth, two very different things.

EYProvider · 25/05/2021 23:43

@Serpenta - I absolutely stand by what I said. It wasn’t stupid at all.

The only stupid comments on here are from people showing off about their drug use - and thinking it doesn’t affect their kids. Now that’s really stupid.

lawandgin · 25/05/2021 23:44

Haven't RTFT but just wanted to say... my brother started out as an occasional user of coke a few years ago. Now, he's a full blown addict with tens of thousands of debt, we are NC after he stole from me and I've no doubt he will end up homeless/running/dead from his addiction. Sure it's common, but that doesn't make it OK. OP you need to get a grip.

bombg · 25/05/2021 23:44

What has respectable got to do with it? Are the people who @Shelovesamystery not respectable in your eyes?
