To be gobsmacked that an interviewee openly told dh that he had looked at our accounts…

On companies house?

Dh did an interview today via zoom and the interviewee openly told him that they had looked at our company accounts on companies house to see if we were a healthy company!

Our dividends are on there and I'm really shocked that he basically admitted to being so nosey.

I know they are public information (which i disagree with) but they do show the company income, how much cash was in the bank and our salary etc.

Dh wants to offer him the job as he had some good qualities, but this has really put me off him.

I know people do look at peoples companies on the companies house, but you don't bloody tell them surely?!

Would you still offer him the job?

Old thread though. This was in the summer?!?

He's intelligent as he's making sure he doesn't end up working for duds.
Take it your husband is the brains behind the business if you find this sort of professional due diligence 'shocking'.

PGSTesting123 · 29/12/2021 17:48

Ahhh zombie thread

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 29/12/2021 17:52

Why on earth has it out you off. It’s a sensible thing to do. No one wants to work for a failing company.

WalkingOnTheCracks · 29/12/2021 17:54

We often asked candidates whether they had, and it was a mark-against if they hadn’t.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 29/12/2021 17:56

Regardless of whether old thread.... candidate did absolutely the right thing, both in doing the research and in letting you know they had done the research .

Not sure I'd want to work for someone who got so upset about people doing their homework before an interview though

SpeedRunParent · 29/12/2021 18:02

This sounds like a problem entirely to do with you rather than him. You're being very odd about it.

R2G · 29/12/2021 18:05

Don't get what is wrong with that at all, he's coming to work for the company. He will research if its a stable company?

Imtryingveryhard · 29/12/2021 18:10

I’d be impressed that someone researched our company thoroughly and thought we were viable enough to apply for our vacancy. I presume most employers would be. I know this is a zombie and OP isn’t replying but they seem embarrassed by their earnings. I always look at Companies House to research people I deal with. As well
As other platforms. It’s the age we live in. You can’t penalise and employee for that. Just imagine west the other employees have found out about you that they are not brave enough to tell you about Grin

485bantuknots · 29/12/2021 18:15

Now who's guilty for resurrecting this thread😂 I read through all the OPs comments until I saw it was from May ffs🙃

Haffiana · 29/12/2021 18:16

@Mummytotwonow

I don’t agree and have conducted 100s of interviews for my work and have also interviewed for my own family business. Looking the information up in private fair enough, however to say that they had done this at an interview shows a lack of respect and does look nosey. This would totally put me off!! I’m with you OP.
I don’t agree and have conducted 100s of interviews for my work

Nope, didn't happen. Just NO. No way.

CheshireKitten123 · 29/12/2021 18:21

"Dh wants to offer him the job as he had some good qualities, but this has really put me off him"

As you weren't on the interview panel you should MYOB

And your DH should not have relayed this information to you.

It seems you both have issues with boundaries - I certainly wouldn't want to work for you !

Liz1tummypain · 29/12/2021 18:27

Yes I would offer him the job. I think he was correct to look at all the information he could find about the company. That's what a good interviewee should do.

ddl1 · 29/12/2021 18:30

If it's public information, it's public information. I think it actually shows him in a good light that he bothered to find out as much available information as possible about the company where he'd be working. That makes him keen and likely to be observant and hardworking, as far I'm concerned. It's not as if he looked up confidential information. And if he'd been intending to spy behind your dh's back, he'd hardly have told him, especially in a job interview, would he?

BrioNotBiro · 29/12/2021 18:38

@Raychelle

I wanna know if he actually got the job!
He did, but it's so long ago that's he's retired now Grin
SmallestInTheClass · 29/12/2021 18:40

I’d be disappointed in a candidate who was too lazy to do this kind of basic research into the place they are applying to. Sounds like they should be getting the offer. It’s not nosey to research the place you want to work.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 29/12/2021 18:48

I always do this and I thought everyone did. I find it weird that you think its unreasonable. We all should make sure that we find out everything that we can before making any major decisions. Companies house is one of the first places ID check.

Thewiseoneincognito · 29/12/2021 18:55

I still can’t get over how shocking the OPs grammar was.

‘Would of’ anyone?

as if those accounts on CH would ever be accurate 😉🤣

Rightsraptor · 29/12/2021 18:56

In a sense it's MNHQ who have resurrected this zombie thread. I had an email from Justine at Christmas (I am sure we all did, I'm not special) and it seems this had the highest YABU vote of the year, around 98% or so I think. So Justine herself brought this out of the closet.

saraclara · 29/12/2021 19:06

Ha! I interviewed someone a couple of months ago who, when it was her turn to ask questions, mentioned our financial situation which she had looked up. I instantly thought of this thread and grinned! And of course she was absolutely right to have done so.
Funny to see it appear again.

antisocialsocialclub · 29/12/2021 19:27

@HumourReplacementTherapy

Why have you resurrected a 7 month old thread and then gone on to correct the OP's grammar? Grin Are you Mn stalking?
Yes so bloody weird!!!
Bortles · 29/12/2021 19:35

Shows initiative, honesty and sensible forward-planning.

YABU anyway to have used the word 'gobsmacked'. There are plenty of actual words that mean the same thing and don't involve being 'smacked' in your 'gob'. Shocked? Stunned? Horrified? Very surprised? Amazed? Any of these sound better,

Crankley · 29/12/2021 19:45

Proof, if needed, that money doesn't = class.

Bouledeneige · 29/12/2021 19:46

I always look at the published accounts for any organisation I apply to. It would recommend an employee to me if they did it.

Mummytotwonow · 29/12/2021 19:46

@Haffiana not sure what you’re on about and there is no need to be rude.
