To be gobsmacked that an interviewee openly told dh that he had looked at our accounts…

On companies house?

Dh did an interview today via zoom and the interviewee openly told him that they had looked at our company accounts on companies house to see if we were a healthy company!

Our dividends are on there and I'm really shocked that he basically admitted to being so nosey.

I know they are public information (which i disagree with) but they do show the company income, how much cash was in the bank and our salary etc.

Dh wants to offer him the job as he had some good qualities, but this has really put me off him.

I know people do look at peoples companies on the companies house, but you don't bloody tell them surely?!

Would you still offer him the job?

Why have you resurrected a 7 month old thread and then gone on to correct the OP's grammar? Grin
Are you Mn stalking?

Mellowyellow222 · 29/12/2021 14:51

You are being completely unreasonable and bringing personal emotions into a business setting.

He didn’t ride through your underwear drawer or follow your kids to school - he looked up publicly available information in your business.

You are very unprofessional

flashy44 · 29/12/2021 14:56

YABVU,i dont get it,why has looking into your Company made him unemployable?

XmasCrap · 29/12/2021 14:59

@MadMadaMim why on earth have you dredged up an old thread? 🙄

Hillary17 · 29/12/2021 15:09

Absolutely I’d look, especially if a smaller company. I want to know things are in good shape and not entering a risky role where I might lose my job etc. Really it’s a compliment they told you, they obviously thought they’d mention your company is doing well…

godmum56 · 29/12/2021 15:15

Zombie alert

itsmyfault · 29/12/2021 15:18

So if you asked him had he looked at Companies House and he had lied, would you have felt better about him?

MumofBoys79 · 29/12/2021 15:19

I also think that's very impressive and demonstrates he's very thorough!

PeonyRose80 · 29/12/2021 15:22

Pretty much the first thing I did before I applied at the start/scale up I now work for - also their articles of association etc. Common sense to me!

AuntyBumBum · 29/12/2021 15:23

Checking the accounts is a very good idea.

SocialConnection · 29/12/2021 15:24

It's due diligence to check a company's in a healthy state if you're thinking of joining them. You are being considered by them, just as much as they are being considered by you. Attention to detail, an investigative eye, going into a situation fully informed - what's not to like in a potential employee?

Darbs76 · 29/12/2021 15:24

He’s just showing a keen interest in researching the company. Isn’t that the done thing?

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 29/12/2021 15:25

@AuntyBumBum

Checking the accounts is a very good idea.
As is checking the dates of a thread.

ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT

AuntyBumBum · 29/12/2021 15:26

@MadMadaMim

(I think the grammar comments are mostly around your use of -'of'. It is not a verb in any context and you're misusing in place of the verb 'to have'... (in various ways) 'I would of' makes no sense. I would have. You wouldn't have. He will have. She could have. We should have. Sadly, a very common mistake these days.

Well said Grin

ExConstance · 29/12/2021 15:27

I know this is an old thread but when I read OPs comments about being uncomfortable about people being able to see her income I wondered if she had ever thought that everyone who works in the public sector is in this position. Once you know the job title you are a few clicks away from being able to find what the pay band for that grade is.

Its mentioned in the Mumsnet Roundup of The Year email. There are usually a few resurrected zombies as a result of that!

maddening · 29/12/2021 15:31

You could think of it as they are resourceful, intuitive, savvy and honest? Good employee material in that case?

ShampooDoodle · 29/12/2021 15:32

Sounds like they were doing what all interviewees should do and thats research, good on them

Mummytotwonow · 29/12/2021 15:33

I don’t agree and have conducted 100s of interviews for my work and have also interviewed for my own family business. Looking the information up in private fair enough, however to say that they had done this at an interview shows a lack of respect and does look nosey. This would totally put me off!! I’m with you OP.

Holdingontonothing · 29/12/2021 15:33

100% I'd employ them if they tick all other criteria. This shows the candidate takes a proactive approach to due diligence - dependent on what role your DH recruiting them for, this approach could make or save you huge amounts of money.

TBH if a candidate hasn't done good DD and tells you they have, it's maybe a sign they aren't right. This one sounds like a good one!

Mummytotwonow · 29/12/2021 15:34

Just seen it’s an old post 🤦‍♀️

rrhuth · 29/12/2021 15:43

@DynamoKev

YABVU although in a way I hope he doesn't get a job working for you - he deserves to work somewhere normal.
Absolutely!

If an employer was annoyed I had looked at public information I would think them extremely strange and would not want to work there.

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 29/12/2021 15:49

Very sensible of him.

Butchyrestingface · 29/12/2021 15:55

How's he getting on with the job now, OP? Grin

Hope it all worked out well in the intervening SEVEN MONTHS before the grammar/tipping police resurrected your thread.

I would be impressed by such a thorough, upfront candidate. Thorough is good.
