I meant good will, sympathy for him. We excused his mistakes because we felt sorry for him. I find it incredulous he can't feel like that for his own grandmother a month after her husband died.
We certainly went easy on him. The early years were peppered with episodes like the Nazi uniform, the drugs, falling out of nightclubs off his face and most people said he was young and he’d grow up.
Then there was the Army where he was loved by the troops and genuinely seemed to want to do it properly. He was respected for his Afghanistan tours and we laughed indulgently at “Too much Army, not enough Prince” in Vegas.
He left and we had Heads Up and Invictus and Sentebale. He connected with veterans, played with kids, laughed and smiled a lot. He seemed to have some of Diana’s magic. Most people seemed delighted when he got married and started a family.
And three years later, here we are ...
