To think friend should book?

Friend bought me a spa voucher for my birthday last year and now we can finally go. (Yes I know MN hates spa days).

Anyway I’m trying to book and no one will answer the phone. Automated message says to email and then cuts you off. I email and her told they refuse to book by email.

Told friend about the issues but she didn’t offer to help. I’ve been trying for a few days now and it’s stressful and I feel like actually she should be the one to book it - we’re both going together.

@Cassilis i have read the thread. Read what i wrote. The spa was not open inside until yesterday.

HamAlive · 18/05/2021 23:12

Is it Thermae Bath Spa? Sounds exactly like the experience I had trying to book with them recently.

Has your friend refused to help? I'd just message and say you're really busy so can she try to get hold of them?

HobbyisENetwork · 19/05/2021 00:19

@GreyhoundG1rl

Also I know this isn’t what you said but she only gave me my voucher. She has the other one This makes zero sense, unless she doesn't want you to go together. Maybe she doesn't...
Why would that make “zero sense” - Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and the wee donkey.

She gave me the ticket and text me to say happy birthday and she cannot wait to for our spa day. We then decided on a date that works for us both. So I should deduce from that she doesn’t want us to go together.

I didn’t include this in my OP as it wasn’t relevant and I genuinely never expected such weird comments where people invent these frankly weird notions. You’re an absolute stranger seeing a snippet into another strangers life - you know nothing about what I’ve been through or discussions had, and yet you come out with this ridiculous nonsense.

@sunshinesontv

I hope your update is that she used her voucher to go with a kinder friend.
Message me and I’ll pas your details on to her so you can go in my place as clearly you’ve concluded I’m a terrible human being and you are superior.

I voted yabu but after reading I don't think you're entirely unreasonable since your pal is going with you. It might help if she showed some solidarity in that thus spa sounds dodgy as hell.
If you were my friend I'd have tried looking into it or wgere I'd bought the vouchers from and tried to get them refunded for somewhere else. I don't know why she thinks it's up to you if she's going as well and I assume you can't get them refunded if she bought the vouchers.

I'd probably not use the spa.
Maybe a hotel spa combined. McDonald hotels were pretty good in the past, malmaison hotels have spas etc.
Good luck op.

Oh the irony
Sophiethegiraffe1 · 21/05/2021 00:03

OP, apologies if this has already been answered but what do you think the friend will do differently to you? And why do you think they are more likely to succeed than you?
Like it’s not her spa is it? Or her friends spa? Cause in that circumstance it makes complete sense for her to book it.
Also, as many have suggested, have you asked her now? And if so what did she say?

cupsofcoffee · 21/05/2021 02:21
@cupsofcoffee you're right about people not reading OP and it's also the same for subsequent updates.

Particularly where OP points out the SPA had been open WAY before today. So not sure your comment on leave it a week or two before you try booking is relevant? It's like you think it's only just reopened?

Honestly people not reading the OP and updates! Grin
They weren't open fully until Monday though because it was illegal for them to be Hmm

SadieCow · 21/05/2021 13:10

They weren't open fully until Monday though because it was illegal for them to be

But they were open and able to take bookings for Monday as that was also legal Hmm!

Why would they open on Monday to start bookings? How many bookings did they think they would get for that day? Or that week?

Honestly, why would you fully staff on Monday if you had no bookings? Hmm

Yes, I know they were open before Monday.

But my point is, not all the facilities (steam room, sauna etc) were open before then, so they may have only been running on a skeleton staff to save money. Lots of places are still making use of the furlough scheme as being open doesn't necessarily mean they're busy.

There's no mad rush to book the first day they've fully opened - waiting a few days gives them a chance to get back into the swing of things.

Danni91 · 21/05/2021 15:38

Sooo.... are you going to actually ask her to help or not? Hmm

You are wasting a lot of time whinging at others for not seeing it your way - are you ringing as you do this? Grin

I totally get the frustration of trying to ring somewhere with no answer but if its stressing you that badly you can't ask for her help then just leave it for a few hours or a day or two.

Seriously its not worth this amount of anger your grumpiness shines through your replies, chill out

Danni91 · 21/05/2021 15:40

This reminds me of a thread a while back when someone was moaning that the GP surgery was shit because they rang at exactly 8AM but was 20 something in a queue to get through

I'm a super stressy person but even i know you can't control a receptionist with a hatred to answering the phone. Just wait & try again a different time Blush

So they wouldn't have attendants for those things in, if they weren't open obviously! But they would have people on booking lines to enable them to you know, book people in!

WTF point is it bring back ALL staff on Monday because they could then book people on! They'd need them before to get the bookings sorted. Which is what the OP said and you missed it!

Have you/your friend managed to get through to anyone yet OP?
