To think friend should book?

Friend bought me a spa voucher for my birthday last year and now we can finally go. (Yes I know MN hates spa days).

Anyway I’m trying to book and no one will answer the phone. Automated message says to email and then cuts you off. I email and her told they refuse to book by email.

Told friend about the issues but she didn’t offer to help. I’ve been trying for a few days now and it’s stressful and I feel like actually she should be the one to book it - we’re both going together.

Are you sure they've actually reopened? Not everywhere has.

@user1473878824

You’re very ungrateful. She’s paid for a spa day for it and you’re whinging that she had the audacity not to book it for you.
That’s not even it Confused

They definitely have re-opened way before today. They just didn’t have all the facilities available.

So what it is then? Because this thread is about the fact that you think she should book it for you. So...

grapewine · 17/05/2021 22:57

To just offer to help by saying I’ll email or try and call as well. She’s going too and has her voucher. It’s not just going to magically get booked unless one of us finally gets through. More chance with two people than one.

She's not a mind reader, though, why not just ask her to try, too?

Kissthepastrychef · 17/05/2021 23:00

Can't you just email them ?
Most of us work full time and manage very busy schedules with conflicting demands. But we still manage to do boring things like make appointments for things we want to do. You really aren't doing anything out of the ordinary that warrants all this angst.

saraclara · 17/05/2021 23:01

There's a really simple answer to this, OP. You talk to your friend and say you're not managing to get through, and you think if you both try you'll stand more chance, so can she try too.

You want her to read your mind. She's probably thinking that since it's your treat, you should be the one to get to choose from the dates available, so she's 'letting' you do it.

If people actually communicated, AIBU wouldn't need to exist.

saraclara · 17/05/2021 23:01

Oops, grapewine got in first while I was typing.

Vodkaandballoon · 17/05/2021 23:05

Send an email instead of calling, wait for them to reply. Not at all stressful

Sweettea1 · 17/05/2021 23:06

Why would you go to a spa day 3 hours away? Who is booking and paying for overnight stay? If its so stressful give her the voucher back so she can take some1 else an book yourself a spa closer to home. Given its 3 hours away how do you know for sure they have even opened up yet?

3CCC · 17/05/2021 23:07

I've been trying to book a spa hotel and I know a lot of places haven't opened till today. Or they just had one person wfh picking up urgent calls only and emails

Give them some slack give them a ring and leave a message leaving your number etc and someone will get back to you

How high and mighty are you. Why not just ask your friend if she can help you with the booking because you can’t get through and could she have a go? She can’t read your mind. I think saying you would be mortified is a bit strong. I would be mortified if I thought one of my friends was bashing me online when I went out my way to get a thoughtful gift and spent my money on her. I’m not saying she shouldn’t have a go at trying to book it but just ask her it’s really not that big a deal, different situation if she refuses at that point

HobbyisENetwork · 17/05/2021 23:13
  • They didn’t just open today.
  • I clearly stated I had emailed in my opening post. The emails have gone back and forth and they outright refuse to book it via this method.
  • I cannot leave a voicemail. There’s no option. Any option you try you get the same message that says we’re too busy to answer the phone, Braille us.

We both buy each other birthday presents of equal value.

Are you in the U.K? Hospitality is only just opening up so probably on minimal staff. Just wait a couple of weeks then call.

HeddaGarbled · 17/05/2021 23:16

Try again tomorrow but only once. That won’t be too stressful. Then repeat on Wednesday etc if necessary.

You must know that lots of people were doing the same as you today. Don’t expect to get booked in anytime soon. You are going to have to wait.

Lululucygrace · 17/05/2021 23:17

If it’s stressing you out as much as this, just take a break from it. Try again in a few days. Your friend can’t say anything negative about that if she isn’t trying to book it.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 17/05/2021 23:17

If it was a night away that you bought for you and her to go then why would you not offer to help book if she were having difficulties?

If there was something I could do that she couldn’t, yes. If it was just ‘you should sit on hold instead of me’, I wouldn’t really see the points.

Peachesarepeach · 17/05/2021 23:21

Can you just email them?

Or message friend - spent hours on this, can you try this week please?

steff13 · 17/05/2021 23:22

Could you try contacting them on their Facebook page or via Twitter?

cabingirl · 17/05/2021 23:23

What do they say when you email and tell them that the phone system is not letting you through and tells you to email?

Have you tried reaching out to them via their social media accounts?

Summerfun54321 · 17/05/2021 23:25

Just send them an email. If they don’t reply, ask your friend to book. The end.

MiddlesexGirl · 17/05/2021 23:28

I thought spa days were meant to be relaxing

Guavafish · 17/05/2021 23:28

You sound like hard work

Ask your friend to help as you have difficulties trying to book. I cant imagine she would have anymore luck than you.

Gemma2019 · 17/05/2021 23:31

I would email them and say I haven't been able to get through to you on the phone so please could you call me on this number when you are available to take my booking.
