I think that we all try to be reasonable and non judgemental. However, I do think we can be labelling and bias at times. I was just discussing in private, with dh , my own pet peeve. He was quite taken aback .. he never judges , is mostly fair . Its made me wonder if many of us have quiet little unreasonable ( and are aware of ) thoughts and judgements .. ?! Meant to be light hearted.😂

OP, what you meant to say is "this is a Mumsnet judging thread" for the thousandth time

bluebluezoo · 13/05/2021 21:37

I am very biased against drivers who can't be bothered to use their indicators

Come on now, It’s not the driver fault that indicators are an optional extra on BMW’s Grin

Tiddleypoms · 13/05/2021 21:39

I know that I have mentioned double negatives already.. but they drive me wild and I judge. How can you not see what the below sentence actually means ...
" i aint got no money "
YOU ARE SAYING THAT YOU HAVE GOT MONEY .

Chewing gum so I can see it, nose rings, calling a dog a furbaby (fhs!), calling me hun (fhs!), careless spelling and grammar and leaving a space before a comma. I'm biased against lots more but that's enough.

TaraR2020 · 13/05/2021 21:40

I definitely judge people who don't so much as misspell my name, but write down a different name entirely because they're spelled similarly...Especially when I either clearly spell it out for them or it's written in b&w in front of them.

...I'd never judge people if it's down to dyslexia, but there do seem to be an awful lot of people with the condition these days Hmm

I worry about people judging me when I bite my nails, I've never been able to break the habit and tend to it when I'm feeling stressed, shy or nervous.

I judge people for saying "I have anxiety" when what they mean is, "I feel anxious"...it minimises what is a legitimate and devastating mental health condition for many.

I used to judge people for poor grammar and using the wrong their/there/they're or your/you're or for misusing apostrophes. But the autocorrect on my phone is no grammar expert and I frequently don't notice when it's got it wrong until I've sent the message/posted so I've let that one go Grin

I judge most harshly people who are disrespectful to others, especially in the work place.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 · 13/05/2021 21:40

I am a judgemental cow and I know it. Both personally and professionally. I make snap judgements about people on first meeting in a work environment - and I'm often right on that first gut feel, actually - but I have to try and reserve judgement just in case I'm wrong and to give them a chance. Happened this week, chap was a little late to a meeting and then had this smug air. Trying not to let it cloud my judgement!
I'm mostly judgy about things I deem to be common - accents, shouting across the playground, swearing in front of the children, bad grammar, letting your young children drink fizzy sugary drinks, chavs, MLMs, grey and pink crushed velvet decor with diamontes, fake grass, small happy dogs, babies with no hair and silly headbands. God I could go on....

bluebluezoo · 13/05/2021 21:40

@Billandben444. What does fhs! Mean?

TheLastLotus · 13/05/2021 21:41

@HelenHywater do not worry we are biased towards you too.. I’m barely 5 feet and always feel like a child among most adults. Thank god for heels 😂

BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 · 13/05/2021 21:42

Yappy dogs* I'm sure they're also happy though. 😬

doghairismyglitter · 13/05/2021 21:45

Mums who push buggies with a child inside whilst holding a cigarette between their fingers on the handles, I judge massively and probably shouldn’t (it also really really pisses me off)

motherloaded · 13/05/2021 21:46

My list would be too long, I have loads and I am not even sorry Grin.

Unless one of my kids partner fall into the list, it doesn't matter does it.

You don't have to socialise, invite or recruit people that grate on you, unreasonably or not.

blameitonthecaffeine · 13/05/2021 21:47

This is a good thread for training yourself out of these judgements - there can't be many people who don't fit into at least one of the categories mentioned here already. And that defensive 'so what, what's wrong with that?' makes me think 'but I judge others about other things which are equally ridiculous.'

I'm ashamed of mine. It's a hangover from a teenage eating disorder and a life long obsession with healthy eating and dance I suppose but I have an almost involuntary judgement towards people eating traditional takeaway/fast food and towards obesity. I fight against it and know that it is me who is wrong, not them. But the bias is still there.

TheLastLotus · 13/05/2021 21:48

@BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 there’s something to be said for snap judgements. When I meet a new person or walk into a new place most of the time it’s neutral. Sometimes I get a very strong first impression and I’m usually right.
Upon giving it more thought though I can usually identify why I thought something... a combination of minute observations.

GabsAlot · 13/05/2021 21:48

breeders-sorry youre not doing it for their benefit no matter how you try and spin it

Wanderlust20 · 13/05/2021 21:50

Men in football tops. Particularly older ones with paunches who probably don't actually play! There, I said it!

Bumpsadaisie · 13/05/2021 21:50

I think I love you @1Morewineplease

I agree with everything you say.

OwlIceCrem · 13/05/2021 21:50

@majesticallyawkward

I'm super judgey, so many things irritate me it drives my dh crazy! People who say hollibobs, famalam, fillum and the like People who use your/you're, they're/there/their, seen/seeing, been/being incorrectly Anyone out in public in PJs Anyone using or saying 'making memories' or any other twee bullshit Gin/wine lover accessories 'Eee I'm mad me' will automatically make me assume you are lacking in any personality An adult who can't make a phone call Using speakerphone instead of just holding the phone to your ear or using headphones when in public Reality TV, anyone who has been on it or watches it (with the exception of the great American bbq showdown, nailed it and the GB sewing bee) Kids named utterly shit names like Nahveah MLM involvement in anyway Parent who dress their dc in overly frilly/spanish clothes, more points deducted for frilly pram liners with the name embroidered
🙌🏻 Preach
MerylStropp · 13/05/2021 21:51

People who misuse myself and yourself. Currently rife in call centres.

This, in spades. I find myself repeating what they've just said but without all the "yourself/myself/ourselves" bollocks. So when they say "If you could just return the form to ourselves, then we'll get back in touch with yourself", my reply would be: "So, I return the form to you, and then you get back in touch with me?"

I think some people are under the impression that it's somehow rude to use the direct pronouns "you", "me" and "us"...that's the only reason I can think of. Either way, it's a really irritating affectation.

Oh ... and babies with pierced ears. I've yet to hear a reasoned explanation as to why?

blameitonthecaffeine · 13/05/2021 21:53

Bad spelling or grammar
Kids being called Archie
Spitting

What's wrong with Archie? I'm not invested, I don't have an Archie - just curious because it seems such a random, inoffensive, mainstream name to pick on.

Echobelly · 13/05/2021 21:53

I think I do have a bit of a bias about people with 3 or more kids who deliberately give them names starting with the same letter, especially if half those names are 'creatively' spelt.

majesticallyawkward · 13/05/2021 21:54

@SharpLily urgh 'hubster' 🤮 'other half' also annoys me. I could add so much more, I am endlessly annoyed and judging.

I'm sure people judge me plenty too so don't feel too bad.

skybluee · 13/05/2021 21:55

@askingrandomsonlinemighthelp

The way protesters dress (e.g. Extinction Rebellion). I usually agree with them. I'm a vegan, leftie, rad fem. But, the way they dress with their cheesecloth layers and green dreadlocks and bells on their toes and mooncup earrings means nobody will listen to them. Say what you have to say without setting up meditation tents and dancing around with tin whistles and rollies. Take your nose ring out, you're on the fucking telly! You don't look like you're talking any sense. You look like you believe in crystals and fairy folk. Nobody will listen to you. It's a pity it's like that, but it IS, so dress the part and leave the dreamcatchers at home for the weekend.
I've long thought this. It's really frustrating as in order to get the message across effectively, unfortunately, how you present yourself DOES make a big difference in how seriously you're taken and how you're perceived. I hope people realise this at some point.
PuppyMonkey · 13/05/2021 21:55

I judge anybody who likes gravy.*

  • I am contractually obliged to post about my hatred of gravy on all threads like this which purport to be lighthearted but end up with people boasting about how they judge anyone with an accent etc. Ha ha ha.
SavannahLands · 13/05/2021 21:55

People who stand gossiping in small groups blocking the Supermarket isles with themselves and a Trolley each and totally ignore you when you politely ask them to allow you access to the shelf or Chilled cabinets they are blocking.

I have sometimes just continued to shop and returned ten mins later to find that they are still there, and even worse during the School holidays when their DC are running riot and meet you head on around a corner!
